So far I am the only one that is 'committed' to going. "Planning on it" is not really committed. If you want to add your name to the list, that would make 2, and qualify the rental of the third housing option. Then if Fred verifies his car's availability and commits to the dates, we would have 3 people committed, and step up to option #2 for the lodging. If you and / or Fred aren't sure by Friday, then I plan on going ahead and reserving the cabin that is option #3. If people decide to go next week or whatever then additional or different lodging may need to be reserved. I have gotten a few emails from the cabin owners indicating that they have had some requests, so the cabins I am hoping for may not be available on Friday when I want to book it. Apparently Duane is out, and I have not seen anything from Rich or Mike Sosner indicating their attendance. So it looks like between 1 and 3 people are planning on going at this point. Obviously booking lodging and transportation involves real costs that nobody is going to front on the hopes that people sign up to go. I need people to commit to the trip in order to book a place that accommodates a large group. BT
I just won an Ebay auction for an open car trailer that I will probably go pick up tomorrow or Friday (in north Miami). This way I have the option to haul the Ginetta with the Tacoma if I don't want to drive it the whole way up. I guess I'll sell the small enclosed trailer since I don't have a vehicle with the good towing capacity... It is perfect for a landscape company. BT
Okay, so nobody else is able to commit to this thing I guess. Maybe better luck in the spring. Ready to book lodging option #3. . . . . Going once....
I am IN......... I hope to have my car back on Monday or Tuesday, so I should be a-ok to roll northbound in time!! Robert is going too!! And, Richard will likely drive up to meet us as long as he still has his F355. We will reserve/book everything on Monday morning..............
Bill, just curious as to the type of trailer you are replacing your enclosed one with. Any photos of the new one yet? Drive safely up to Georgia. Cheers
I bought a used trailer from a Porsche guy in Miami Beach. It is a 14x6 open trailer with a very low loading height, pretty light. Tandem drop axels, a bit of rust. I am going to refinish the finish this week. Pressure washed it yesterday, will encapsulate the rusty finish today, prime tomorrow, paint Tuesday / Wednesday. Bought on Fleabay for $710! http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWNX%3AIT&viewitem=&item=200253628664 BT
We are locked and loaded for the first annual Campbell Run!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! *Cars are getting picked up on Wednesday the 1st. *Flying to Atlanta on Thursday the 2nd, where we will claim the cars at FOA for the 'opening ceremonies' with Will. *Thursday until Sunday will be filled with lots of driving the amazing roads of N. Georgia, N. Carolina, and Tenn. combined with plenty of BBQ, pecan log rolls, cheetoes, and Ferrari Puma shoes that will certainly 'fit in' with the local folk'. *Sunday, we load the cars back onto the transport trucks at FOA, have the 'closing ceremonies' with awards, medals, and prizes (categories TBD!) with Will, then fly back to Ft. Lauderdale. *Monday, cars get delivered back here. I am really looking forward to this trip!!!
Damn wish I could make it. Wife is going to be out of town and nobody can watch the kids, I'm on the hook.
Finished getting the new-old trailer cleaned up today. Last picture is pre-delivery. I first did a pressure wash then, a rust treatment that turns the iron oxide into iron chromate or something like that. $8 per bottle, a little over 1 bottle needed - $16. Then Rust-oleum rusty metal primer over everything. A little less than 1 gallon needed - $25 (some pics at this stage here) Then Rust-oleum safety red on all the upper steel elements. A little less than 1 gallon needed - $25 Then some black rust-oleum high performance spray for the undercarriage. 2 cans - $11. Grand total for the redo was $77, and about 8 hours of effort. Tomorrow I will see if the car fits or has some problems getting on the trailer. Yippee! Thanks Will! The bearings look good, but I am going to put bearing buddies on them anyway. The pictures hide some of the defects, but overall I think the trailer looks much better than it did a week ago when I picked it up. BT
We have a last minute entry. My father in law will likely be driving his C6 vette convertible up also. He may be sleeping on an inflatable mattress. I told him the first ones signed up get first choice. BT
For those of you intending to drive up, make sure you check on the status of the fuel shortage in the Atlanta metro area. Currently premium is almost impossible to find anywhere, and less than half the gas stations have any regular. It is not uncommon for drivers to wait in line over an hour to fill up. Hopefully the situation will improve before you get here.
The current forecast from www.weather.com is lows of 44-47 degrees and highs in the 71-72 range. I guess that will be okay... BT
Nice job on the trailer Bill, looks great! Hope everything comes together for you guys and you have a fantastic time!
Have fun guys, wish I could make the time to do this. Enjoy them mountain roads, and say hi to Will from us all.
I CAN'T WAIT!!!!!!!! I am so f'king excited about going!!!!! We have some pretty amazing drives planned out for this trip: Thursday, after meeting with Will and getting the cars delivered, we have mapped out highway 60, blood mountain, mineral bluff, blue ridge, 180 and several other roads on the 'long' way to Blairsville. Friday, we're going to drive 19 all the way up, including the Tail of the Dragon, then around and back down to do 165 and 143 (Cherohala Skyway), back up to 28, and several additional roads. Saturday, we're going to drive 197, Seed Lake, Warwoman, 28, and the Blue Ridge Parkway, amongst other roads BT recommends. This is the trip that Robert and I have talked about doing for over 2 years now............ I am so glad that we have decided to "DO" and make things happen. I feel very lucky and fortunate to have the opportunity to spend some great times like this with some fantastic friends!!
C'mon Mike......... If you get a 'hall pass' we still may be able to make this happen for you too.......... Act on the opportunity - you can be busy any time in your life, but you don't always get the opportunity to enjoy your Ferrari on roads like this with a group of friends. If it makes any difference, I'll even bring the Cigars.
My father in law did not get a hall pass. Looking forward to the trip, should be great weather. Gas shortages in the area may mean that only regular unleaded is available (from what I have read), so it may be a good idea to pack along some octane booster for cars requiring premium gas. BT
Well, Bill, it looks like I will be driving right through this mess. I guess I will have to gas up prior to reaching Atlanta. Everything else is ready to GO!!!! Save a cigar for me Fred. Rich
