They're out there if you're willing to accept a driver with some miles. First one with the sweet and not too common X50 option recently sold for just under $60k including fees. Some of the best values out there. https://bringatrailer.com/listing/2003-porsche-911-turbo-127/ https://bringatrailer.com/listing/2001-porsche-911-turbo-198/ https://bringatrailer.com/listing/2004-porsche-911-turbo-28/
' Very well written/reasoned and totally agree. My view is the "other level" in tha highlighted sentence above will not be reached until a few YouTube "influencers" start posting clips featuring Maranellos to lead their followers in that direction. Relying on the general public to realize the virtues of the Maranellos on their own will take a very long time.
Hmmm….who do we know that is young and handsome and can be our designated “Maranello influencer”….: ;-). You know who you are! The answer is not me or root. ;-)
Agreed. Probably the one thing that has kept me from owning one. Removing the AWD is like turning that machine into a widow maker. The narrow body 996s especially those with X51 are some of the sweetest driving precision machines. If only they didn’t have glass engines.
The 575 is just a wonderful Gentlemens grand tourer. Stick or paddle , by todays cold, numb standards , its just a wonderful car with a soul and sooooooooo comfortable to drive.
Have a good friend with a '03 996 Turbo, silver/black (aren't they all the color combo?). It's an interesting comparo with the Maranello because both cars were contemporaries that shared the same mission, but delivered results very differently. I've driven it and must say it's simply an awesome car. The AWD is utterly transparent. I used to own a '04 Subie STi which back then had one of the best AWD systems on the market, and the 996 Turbo's AWD system seems as refined and transparent as the STi. It's a Porsche, what do you expect? Power is typical Porsche Turbo, but with scant lag. There's so much power on tap when the boost kicks in it's a good thing there's AWD to put it all down, and the power builds furiously all the way to redline. If Porsche knows one thing it's how to do turbos. After all, they've been refining it for decades. My friend's 996 Turbo feels a little faster than my 550, probably owing to its lighter weight and how it puts the power down with its AWD, but also the way it makes/builds power vs. the Maranello's flatter torque curve. Handling is as phenomenal as you'd expect, and yes, the AWD certainly reduces the old original Turbo's "window maker" factor, but it's still a total beast with acceleration, speed and power that can and will bite you in the ass big-time if you don't know what you're doing. I'd happily take a 996 Turbo any day. Maybe not over my 550, but in addition for sure.
Ferrari introduced the 208 GTB/S Turbo in 1982 for its home market in Italy at the same time it was using turbos in F1. That gave Porsche about a 6 year start on them.
I love Porsche and IMHO , In ten years there will be 2 stand alone car makers left ... Porsche and Ferrari , all the rest will just be a government appliance tool. With that said, 1 Million Porsche go by each day. The 575/550 is becoming a real long term looker....... Never can beat any 911in terms of reliabilty but , its like a honda accord, mehhhh I just saw a2004 Nart blue with saddle interior and diamond pattern interior. Que Bella!
I was screwing around in Monterey and Carmel yesterday for car week and missed the end of yesterday's RNM 550 (a serious "questions" car)....the "oddities" were.... +) Seller noted a wheel had fallen off! Per the seller...Regarding the wheel falling off it was scarie. i\ felt the wiggle and pulled over landing the rotor on the wheel. No other damage fortunately. +) Seller noted "total mileage unknown" due to "speedometer assembly being replaced"....receipt claims replacement odo set to existing mileage +) Seller noted headlamp fuse bypassed +) belt service (last done 2015) and motor mounts past due +) allegedly had been listed on Facebook marketplace for $190k according to a commenter 18 months ago +/-...selling this car would have been very difficult...... Here are the "deets" RNM at $111,000 on 8/19/22 out of Carmichael, CA 1999 550 ZFFZR49A9X0115174 and assembly number 32397 +) 34,958 miles +) Rosso Corsa over what they called "Beige Tradizione" +) aftermarket sticker-looking-shields; standard seats; Tubi-style exhaust; +) Rotors and pads replaced in 2019; rear wheel was replaced when it fell off while driving and damaged the caliper! Lower front black lip cosmetically damaged +) carpet on the parcel looked weird.... +) Normal docs and 2 fobs including red master and 2 keys; red ferrari car cover; speedline(?) mirror covers; . +) Dash recovered in 2005; "stickies" addressed in 2019; Tires from August 2021 +) 115174 +) https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1999-ferrari-550-maranello-16 One commenter noted the seller should have lifted the reserve and to me with the needs and questions on the car, I agree....$111,000 seemed like "all the money" for a no options car with miles, deferred maintenance, some cosmetics and "stories". Had a great day at The Quail today, hope you guys like the photos I posted up. Always interested in thoughts on these auction results!
A Super America with only 550 miles just sold (1:28 EST) at the Mecum Auction at Pebble Beach for ONLY $250,000!!!! Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
Even bigger money when you add $25k buyer premium. Interestingly, Mecum's website still shows the car remains unsold at $250k.
Wow, did anyone see this? https://www.broadarrowauctions.com/vehicles/jc22_045/2000-ferrari-550-maranello I was alerted to it since someone thought it was my 550 given the almost identical spec (save for shields and carbon seats). Not a perfect condition car either with pass airbag bubbling and I’m desperate need of a paint correction given the very noticeable swirl marks on the hood. Anyone have a potential explanation for the price? Did the rare options (color, seats, quilted shelf) yield this result? Seems an outlier for sure. I wouldn’t let mine go for even double the hammer price of $324K! Ruben
That dealer is also showing a BBi with an estimate of $300-375, which comparatively, is kind of strange. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
I was talking with a well known dealer, who just sold a gated 575 for 375k. 18k miles, Grigio, shields, Daytona, modular, leather shelf, but no FHP. Seems like maranellos still getting very strong money despite economy.
$324k seems fair to me for that car. Like the paint thickness presentation, but using a Porsche sketch is a bit lazy.
97 turbo and 04 575 great combo imo. 443k on the turbo. 89k on the 575. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I would feel so cool to take a car to a half a million miles. Heck 3 cars ago my wife’s daily was a Prius for 11 years and we only got to 180k with a bunch of epic road trips
443k, is that a typo?? If not, that is amazing!!!! I don’t have that type of mileage on all my cars that I have ever owned cumulatively (which includes mileage from prior owners!) 89k on the 575 is impressive too
