So, who's up for a trip to Mark's on this coming Monday, the 11th? As we've discussed in the "Ongoing..." thread, the plan is to meet at the nearby New England Air Museum and then travel en-masse to the cruise. If you can't make it on the 11th we can always arrange a second visit later. Any thoughts on a meeting time? Details at: http://www.markscruisenight.com/ Air Museum Directions: http://www.neam.org/visit/visit.asp The National Weather Service currently has Monday Night's weather at a 30% probability of showers and thunderstorms. Obviously we scrub the mission if it's bucketing rain. Charles
I'm in. I'll be in New Haven on Monday. I won't be able to get to the Air Museum until about 6:30. If you want to leave earlier, I'll meet you there.
Phil: Excellent! Dean: I think we could hold out 'til 6:30 to accommodate you, let's see what the consensus opinion is when we get a few more responses. I'll be in Glastonbury this AM.
OK... Departure from the Air Museum for Mark's at 6:30 tomorrow evening. This will hopefully allow Dean time to get there. NWS now indicating zero chance of rain. Charles
Just found this thread. I'm in unless work blows up in my face. I figure I'd get to the air museum around 6ish.
May shoot up tonight- I am on honeymoon break for 24 hours. Had some things that needed to get done around town. rollcall:
I'm en-route. Should be there around 6:00 or a little after. I realize the logistics of a Monday evening can be tough... hoping we get a good turnout. Charles
Thank you to everyone for awaiting my arrival. I had a great time at the Mark's show. The cars had a crowd around them the entire evening. The only negative remark I heard was someone yelled "Buy American" as I drove out. I wanted to yell back "I bet I have more American cars than you do" but I took the high road. I agree with Dean, I had a great time as I think we all did. The kettle corn was good too: salt, fat and sugar in each handful! An atmospheric shot courtesy of my cheap and cheerful Fuji point and shoot... Image Unavailable, Please Login
You know they must have parked a trailer off-site, or else it lives at Mark's... but we watched it as it was driven in. Let's see... Headlights? check Turn signals? check Fenders? check Tire tread depth? check Emissions system? check VIN number? check OK, let's go... Image Unavailable, Please Login
What no cries of "foreign junk"???? Nice turn out guys. Looks like a fun night out. Any Fcars or Lambos in attendance other than the GBury Gang??? - Ed -
Didn't see any other Italian cars in fact. Lots of American muscle cars, lots of hot rods, some pre-WWII American iron including maybe 1 or 2 brass-era cars. The UK seemed best represented by a small fleet of MGs, and there were some Jags including a beautiful E-type in what looked like original paint. 1 or 2 Triumphs. I was hoping to see an old Lotus or two but I didn't see any. German cars were mostly Porsche and VW. There was also a low-rider which was pretty entertaining -- I give those guys credit for style.
Yeah, didn't see the Esprit at all. Come to think of it, I think our row was the only one I didn't explore. We will have to do this again when the weather becomes more agreeable.
There was a dark gray Ferrari 456 there for a little while. It looked like the one I've seen at GBury several times, but I didn't get a very close look. It was gone when I came back around.
Some of us were discussing going to Mark's on one of the upcoming Monday nights before they close for the season. According to their pdf flyer, they don't get together on Labor Day (which falls on the 5th of September this year). So I think the options break down as follows: 22 Aug (Camaro Night) ... that's tomorrow, probably not gonna happen for us 29 Aug My personal top pick 12 Sep (I suspect this is the last night they'll be having it) Link: http://www.markscruisenight.com/index.html
29th and 12th are both good for me. My uncle in VT wants to come down in his vette. Maybe I can have him come with us.
OK, so here are my thoughts: I suggest we do this coming Monday (29 Aug) unless we get a lot of rain courtesy of the Hurricane Irene remnants. Rain date will be Sept. 12th but I'll confirm with Mark's that they won't be closed for the season by then (their web page still shows the 2010 end date, which is approximately the same). Same meetup plans at the Air Museum 6:00 - 6:30 timeframe, just like last time. We can gauge participation as the date(s) draw near. Eric: You might have to give your uncle short notice depending on the weather situation, but it would certainly be nice if he could make it. Best Regards, Charles
This thread's been quiet. Has anyone shown interest elsewhere? I got a call from my uncle at 4:30 Monday where he told me he was on his way to Marks and wanted me to meet him! I had another appointment, so couldn't. Not sure if he's willing to take the 90-minute drive a second time so shortly.
Eric: Sorry to hear that your uncle made the trip down only to return. The NWS is saying that we might expect tropical storm conditions this coming Sunday, but they expect dry conditions later Monday into Monday evening. So, I'm not sure... could be a dry and beautiful day with soggy field conditions. Yeah, not much interest in this thread. If it looks like it will be ok for this Monday, I'll send another post. Gale and I are eager to go up there before the season closes... I'll be sure to let you know as soon as I find out. Look for a PM or a post here. Charles
OK, Mark's is open for business tomorrow... I think it's the last night of the season. I will be at the Air Museum ca. 1800 hours. Eric, I know you're probably up for it. Phil? Ed? Peter? There are no hurricanes predicted for the next 24 hours.
