Has anyone enjoyed a stay at Marriott's Maui Ocean Club? I am booking a trip for the winter and have almost no Maui experience. I am wondering if a guest on that property can find interesting things to do and see with some wandering (without taking the car everywhere.)

    Opinions? Information?

    Thanks!

My Family owns a place next door at the Kaanapali Alii. I get out there a few times a year. I can tell you that they are doing construction there right now and are building a new tower at the Marriot. There's also no beach there. There's some beach, but it's a little rocky and you can't go in the water cause it rocky/coral. It sucks in my opinion. I would never stay there. You have to use the beach next door in front of the Alii. With the construction, they are probably giving away rooms with all the noise. You want to stay somewhere between Black Rock and the Kaanaplai Alii, but not past the Alii.

There's not a WHOLE lot you can do there on foot. You can walk down to Whaler's Village and do some shopping and dining, catch a free Polyneasian show, have some drinks which is really nice and most people staying in Kaanaplai do that. There's a boardwalk that runs down there strip.

There's a trolly that runs between Kaanapali and Lahaina that picks up at Whalers's Village. It's cost $1.00 each way. So if there's someone in your party (teen kids) that wants to wants to hang out in Lahaina, but does not have a car, they can take the trolly. I think it picks up once an hour. If they don't want to take the trolly, a taxi is like $8.00.

I have seen and done it all in Maui. So if you have any questions, feel free to PM me.

Here's a video I made when I was back there in March.

It's got misc video, video of Halelakala, Hookipa big wave sufing and some misc video shot from Kaanapali Beach.

I dont know if this helps a lot, but I work for Hyatt and they have a very nice hotel, very similar to the marriot in Maui, in Lahaina, It is a bit more expensive, but i think i am just biased to Hyatt. :)

I'll be staying at the Hyatt one in Waikhiki next year and that is a beautiful hotel.

But good luck with your trip.

we stayed at other end of island at grand wailea and I liked it. 4 seasons next door and some nice shopping and restaurants right there. have to take the car to Lahaina though which is a pain sort of.

Thanks to everyone for the responses.

BOG your video is great! Makes me want to get there sooner and stay longer! I will check out the other properties before reserving anything.

    The Hana drive sounds wonderful.

All suggestions welcome if you think of anything else!

    Thank you!
