I plan on purchasing a 355 out of state and was wondering what experiences you guys have hd regarding getting a Maryland inspection. I would suspect that 90% of inspection stations couldn't get a Ferrari on their lifts, nor would I let them. Is thier some sort of exemption? Thanks in advance...

You should get the car inspected for safety. If you are talking about the emissions test, they can give you a waiver.

Ferrari of Washington uses a gas station near them, an Amoco I think. That's where I had mine (91 348). It was cheap and quick.

No exemption on inspections unless it is a Historic or Street Rod vehicle. To get MD tags you HAVE to go thru a Md inspection... Let me know if you need someone to do it for you---I have a guy down here, has done mine, Kassir's Lambo and a few others...

When I bought my car from FoW, they used an inspection station that was located in Potomac, MD for the MD State Inspection. This was a few years ago, so they may not use them anymore. Gimme a moment and I'll go get the inspection sticker so I can pass along the station name....Potomac Amoco on River Road did the MD State Inspection. Hope this helps.

The Amoco has been rebranded BP - ask for Brian. They've inspected several cars for me. Good luck.

Isn't FOW in Va? How can the BP station do a MD inspection?

If you buy a car from them but you live in MD, you need a MD inspection. They have a relationship with the shop to serve their MD buyer's needs.

First post here. Does anyone know if an appointment is needed to have the state inspection done at the BP Amocco on River Rd? Also, what's the cost and how long does it take for them to inspect the car? Thank you. And, oh, where about on River Rd is it close to? Thanks again.

FOW is in VIRGINIA, NOT MARYLAND!!!!

I think you need to get Maryland inspection in MARYLAND!!!!!

If you live near Columbia, MD, check out DOBBIN AUTO REPAIR, 410-884-9598. They inspected my Ferrari and my friend's also . No hassle and I did the test drive with the mechanic in the passenger seat.

they cannot legally----md state police oversee all inspection stations in MD and they do not have jurisdiction in VA

    "they cannot legally"

We're talking about the BP in Potomac. Post # 4 may have been confusing in the BP is near FoW in the grand scheme of things.

As for the BP station, call them and ask for Brian - I strongly suggest you make an appointment. I've had inspections done there, I don't recall how long it takes but they've done it while I waited - there's a Starbucks very close to the BP.

A long strange odyssey awaits you! Seriously though, welcome! You should also talk to the guys at Grand Touring. Kendall, Chuck and Richard are great guys over there. www.grandtouring.com

What models/years are you looking at?

I've always wanted a TR and yes I always watched Miami Vice, but seriously I was checking out websites and found a 87TR red/black with 13K miles for 65K at Marshall Goldman in Ohio. I also want to test drive the 348 and 355 as well.

While I have driven each of the models you're interested in, I have not owned any of them. I would suggest you solicit the feedback from local owners here on FChat for their impressions and then move over to the general board sectons for each type. Make friends with the local guys and gals here and you can probably pick up the chance for some rides and even driving opportunities at one of our frequent get togethers.

Lastly, don't be afraid to go post in the regional section of FChat and ask for feedback on a particular dealer if you find a car you're interested in. Most of the time you'll find a range of experiences folks on FChat have had with a dealer, but you can usually see a pattern. If no one in the region has heard of or bought from a particular dealer, I'd be very careful. And unless you know a seller and their car, don't pass on the PPI.

    Good Luck,

    DMAX

Thank you. I'm going to look for their number and see if they're lenient with tinted windows and cat back without a converter. Background: First used car that's bought out of state and i wasn't aware that i would have to have the car inspected.
