    Nothing interesting yet.

It would be funny as hell if you're really looking at the new "Dino"...

Is there any truth to the hardtop-convertible rumor for the Spyder? I asked a few Maserati dealers...and they hadn't heard of any changes like that. Not that dealers know much anyway, but does anyone know more?

I wonder why they bother trying to hide it. It is just as boring as the previous models. They need to make at least one model that has some character on the outside (I think the interiors are great). I wanted to buy a one for a daily driver but I can't get past that all the models look like a cross between a Hnoda Accord (Tail lights) and a Jaguar (Front grill).

The spyshot blurb said the retractable spyder would be out "later" than March 2007. I'd guess that means before Sept, or they'll miss the selling season. That equals about 12 more months of the current spyder... no reason to tell the dealers anything yet, or they'll lose some customers they could sell now.

I don't think I'd buy v1.0 of the "new" model anyway, just to let the teething bugs get cleaned up. So I'm thinking about negotiating for a current spyder as the weather cools off and this summer's model starts looking like last summer's beachwear.

    Its rubbish!!!
This car on those pictures got a modified Quattroporte-body on a shortened chassis. This chassis will become the new frame for the new generation of Maserati coupes & spyders!

This "Spy"-car is only a testbed for new engines, suspension and frame development!
....and: don`t ask dealers - they new nuttin`!!!

    Ciao!

I agree considering how many extraordinary Ferrari's are seen during testing wearing slightly modified bodies of current or previous generation cars, I doubt the Quattroporte look of this car is any indication of what it will look like.

Point taken. I'll modify my statement to be "one with character that I can afford".

Maybe I don't understand the whole point here. What would be the value in a spy shot if the car is not going to look anything like car pictured. I'm just jaded ever since I heard that Maserati was comming back to the US and was all excited to buy one until I saw what they were offering. They needed something with a signature style like a Tesstarossa. All I see now is Italian quality control with Japanese looks.

Actually Richard the rear tail lights look nothing like a Honda Accord, you're thinking of a Honda Prelude and if you want to have that point of view, we can say the same about every car. People that say C6 Corvette's look like 360's, etc. These are usually people that only see shapes, I like to refer to them as the legally blind.

As a previous owner of a 4200 I can say that Testarossa styling was not something they were aiming for. People use 4200's as a daily driver (as someone who deals with 4200 owners as a daily basis, I can tell you this is accurate). Most of these people want a nice car that is fun to drive, they don't want something that's going to get every person's attention on their way to work. I think the 4200 styling is perfect. It's not exotic but it's not boring, it's enough for people to look at it and realize it's something special but not enough to catch every person's attention.

The problem is not with the Maserati 4200, it's with the type of car you are looking for and the Maserati 4200 certaintly is not it.

    Good luck in your search.

Of course it is a matter of perception, but I don't think of a Vette when I see a 360 but I do think of a Accord/Prelude when I a see a Maserati 4200 from the back. I can see the need for a big luxury sport cruiser but the recent lease incentives point to that Maserati does not feel they got what they were looking for either when it comes to the Gran Sports. I still may buy a Maserati because they are very attractive two or three years old at half the sticker price.

4200, 3200, and Quattroporte are gorgeous in my eyes. I didn't like the QP much until I saw one in person, so classy!

I think the new coupe will be a larger version like these spy shots, and others I've seen, suggest.

It looks like they are going to compete with the bentley coupe.

It appears that Maserati is looking to please the masses.

My service rep and mechanic did say the quatroporte will have a full auto option, which is nothing new. I wouldnt be surprised if this also became available in the coupes as they are seeing alot of coupes that need new clutches at 8-10,000 miles.

This is a very funny input: Maserati needs something like a Testarossa!!! Haaahahaa!!! Yes, and the USAF needs something like a Boing 707, right??? Hey man, the 80ies are over!!!!
But don`t worry, the future Maserati will look completly different as this Spy-cars! As I said in a previous threat, I saw pictures from a very high ranking source within the Factory of the 95% finished developed car. Looks great - if they don`t make it wrong with the 5% to come....!

    Ciao!

here's a picture I took when I was in Maranello last month. The car was being romped around the Fiorano test track, then we saw it a few times driving back and forth from the factory to the track.

Welcome to the world of automobile testing! Show me some "spy pics" of any manufacturer that flaunts what their next generation car will look like, you can't because it doesn't intentionally happen.

OK, I agree - but then its nonsens to speak about the "...next new Maserati coupe/spyder...!" at all!

I understand what you're saying, there is a fair bit of nonsense in this thread but it's ok...it just proves how much anticipation there is for the next generation Coupe/Spyder :)

the quattroporte is a huge success in the united states. yes, the coupe' and spyder have been a dissapointment sales wise. but i think maserati has learned a few things since 2002 such as having a maserati leasing program and realizing that maserati customers and ferrari customers are not one in the same.

maserati has had it's share of good and bad in the united states. with the return of alfa romaro in 2009, don't be too quick to write off maserati quite yet.

just my opinion... i could be wrong

    Joseph,
you are right - but only one car on the production line doesn`t save Maseratis future!! They need at least three (!) hits to see their landmarks for the next years!

No one in this thread is even close as to what is really coming...

But you can deduce a couple of things... the new "Coupe" will be a upmarket and larger car, kind of a 2-door quattro porte if that makes any sense. It will most likely compete with the likes of the Bentley GT/CL 600 in terms of target market. I imagine that Maserati will discontinue the current "GranSport/Coupe" line as it won't be different enough from the larger new coupe. They don't need two coupe lines.

Now the question is whether they will build and SUV? As was rumored some time back.

Walter's on to something..the trick is three models on the SAME production line/platform so they don't have to retool dramatically like the do now between 2 doors and 4 doors
