Hello All, I have always read these threads on 3500's and never contributed so I thought it was time to share my photos. I am restoring my 3500 but due to limited time and funds its a very slow process. so dont get too excited. I purchased 586 from Paris back in November 2009. Its a bit of a rusty old heap with many parts missing. Anyway please see photo's below, hope you enjoy them and I will update as and when!! Hi Steve, I hope you will give back its glory to my Friend Alain ex-car, My photos don't look so bad after all these years Good luck PS : Did you find a windscreen and rear lights ?? Fred
In the old days we called this a parts car. Now days its a barn find. Funny how times change. I see nothing wrong with 586 that $150,000 won't cure. I wonder what history 586 can tell us. FGM
Steve, welcome aboard. It looks like your car is a late 1958 or mid 1959 by the numbers. It looks to be an decent starting point. You've got more parts present than you think. I assume the engine is original to the car, yes? Do you know the original colors? If you can turn a wrench you won't have dyspepsia. Please post some photos of the dash, and the rear end. Ciao and best. ~Trev
Hi, Fred, Yes you are right it was Alain Flahout's car. It was a mad weekend driving to Paris, loading the car, getting the parts together and then driving back. I did the trip with two friends of mine and will never forget it (was very tiring). I have fond memories as it was a very French affair! when I came to discuss the price Alain drove me and my friends to a Tabac for a strong coffee (i needed it)...... I will upload photos from the trip and would love you to show Alain. I have a windscreen but still no rear lights (waiting for some at the right price!!!) Hopefully Jan / Feb the body will be sectioned and removed to enable access to start the chassis and body frame restoration. PS if you have any more photo's or history please let me know. How long did Alain own the car for? who did he buy the car from? Thanks Steve
Steve, I have #586 as being sold new in June 1959 and delivered on 7 July 1959 to MARTINELLI & SONVICO -Lugano/CH
Hi, Sorry Walter mis-understood you. Yes you are right this was the car sold to the Swiss dealer in 59. Althought this car is quite rusty (floor and sills) it appears untouched and not messed with. The only problem so far has been that over time the car has had some parts removed and sold off over a period of time. Another fantastic point is its a matching numbers car and so has the original engine. I will post some more photos of the car over the next few weeks. Steve

Greetings Steve, Well, you have picked an ambitious project, but time and money will do it. I'll venture that you are doing this for your own enjoyment and not expecting to make a profit on the car. I'm not sure if this is the proper parts manual: http://www.maseratinet.com//pc-15159-856-3500-series-spare-parts-manual.aspx If so, get a copy, mark the pieces, take photos, and make notes as you disassemble the thing so you can put it back together. Good luck and keep us posted on the progress. Carmine
We'll certainly know where to find you for the next couple of years.....;-) Please post pix as you progress! TIA, Tritone
A tough job for Steve, but a very original car with matching numbers in its original colour. Too long for my friend Alain at the time, that's why he gave up. A special cam engine preparation. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Just thought I would add the photos of when the car came out of Alain's garage in Paris. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
You have your work cut out for you! Good luck, bring her back! My '59 #412 says "hello" to her younger friend!
Thanks. Also thanks for your thread keep it up and please as many photos as possible. These restoration threads are extremely useful especially when you have a rough car like poor old #586.
