What is the stereo system like? Can it be hooked up with my İphone 3gs for my ipod? How much would a paint job cost to turn to red? Thanks.
The 4200 has a quite dated stereo system. It comes with the large LCD screen and works fine for most people. If you are into the "yo man, listen to my 3000 amp hip hop bass" category them you'll be solely disappointed. Most people just listen to the engine and the exhaust, so they don't bother with the stereo system. It works quite fine for listening to CDs and radio. No, it can't be hooked to an iPhone by default, but you can always get a mechanic to add a special input for you. There are a few 3rd-party upgrades that allow you to do that (one of them by-passes the CD changer and makes an mp3 player look like the CD changer). A whole re-paint job? properly done? hmm that would cost nearly as much as the car, so you probably want to just buy the right color. Not to mention that you loose resale value and reliability (if the mechanic doesn't know what he is doing when remodding the car back together).
There was a factory option stereo upgrade. I can't remember the name, but the 4200 could be ordered with an award-winning high output 400w system. It also had a big subwoofer between the seats on the rear bulkead among other upgrades.
"Award Winning"?? Did it win the "Italian Electronics that nobody can figure out" award? The big subwoofer holds a puny 5 1/4" speaker... The best sound comes from the exhaust system. The top of the line system is the Auditorium 200- the system with the LCD screen, Nav (Unusable for the most part) and the litttle sub. Given that the LCD screen and the buttons on the faceplate control other aspects of the car- there's no real upgrade path... I have one arriving here this week and have done a lot of homework. It is what it is...
The "upgraded" stereo option, which I have in my GS, is the "Auditorium 200" as stated above by full_garage. It adds better speakers, an extra sub and some cool badges at the doors. Award-winning? I wouldn't say so, its just better than the default system, but anything aftermarket should be a lot better. To tell you the truth, the GS can be upgraded quite easily because it uses an OEM Becker unit, so you can buy the latest Becker Cascade Pro and swap them around and everything will continue to work. But I haven't bothered since I don't use the stereo much. For the 4200, as full_garage mentioned, you can't bypass the system because it is used for other functions of the car. BUT you could split the wires for the LCD screen, add a switch and then switch between two different inputs. One guy has done it successfully but it needs A LOT of work.
The cost to repaint the car would be very expensive. You can easily find a red one and save yourself the excessive cost. Your probably looking at about $15k. The stereo is nothing to write home about. As mentioned, I generally like to listen to the exhaust with music as background only.
...and larger amps. I think the Auditorium 200 is all you need as it can make your ears ring and the sub woofer, even though it is small, is less than a foot from your ear, so it works. Although it is no audiophile system (which I think is pointless in a car anyway because of all the background noise), the 200 system I find better than any factory system in period Lambos or Ferraris. just my opinions.
You are probably talking about a Spyder because in the Coupe the rear speakers are waaay back, under the rear window. I agree, the Auditorium 200 is good enough for most purposes.
