Anyone have recent restoration history or experience with the black A6G54 Maserati Zagato #2105 to be offered by Gooding at Monterey? Thank you. Roger
THe car was owned by the late Paul Kunkel in UK. After his death the family decided to restore the car and commissioned Paul Grist to do this. When approx. 30% of this work was done the car was auction in part-dismantled condition. New owner became J.B. from the USA. He finished the restoration of #2105 in Italy and owns the car to this day. The GOODING estimate in their auction is -IMO- totally GaGa! Ciao! Walter
There are so few of these older Maseratis, restoration work is often done in somewhat of a vacuum, without the support of a broader base of knowledgeable owners and concours judges. There can be strong opinions but with little supporting evidence. One could question many small details and finishes (e.g. hose clamps, wiring and electrical connectors, coil and its labeling, etc.) but overall #2105 makes a very nice presentation. The auction sale was in December 2001, restoration was completed in Modena in April 2004 and the car was shown thereafter in Italy and Texas, but has not been seen much since. The current owner is undoubtedly able to offer much detail about the car's early history and restoration. The initial buyer was an American, after exhibition at the '55 Turin show. Don
Do you know who know if the drivetrain is original to the car, and who did the restoration in Modena? Thanks. Roger
