I was clearing out my fathers garage and came across a few enamel signs. There are two the same celebrating the 40th anniversary of Stirling Moss [1956-1996] Maserati.I am unsure where they came from, whether or not it was an official Maserati event as the enamel sigh is using the correct Maserati logo or something he has picked up elsewhere.Does anyone have the same or know the history of these. Also their value.

Why not post photos here of each sign? Somebody will make sense of them.

Are they the genuine articles? There are big issues in intellectual property law circles surrounding the manufacture of reproduction enamel signs that infringe copyright. if you hold, sell or display them in any way, make sure they're the real thing, or else you might get a nasty surprise in the form of a letter of demand from Maserati/Ferrari SpA lawyers. They're obsessive about Protecting Ferrari/Maserati IP, and they pursue infringers relentlessly.

I seem to recall hearing though some Maserati club people there was some old guy in Melbourne that was making reproduction stuff like this a few years ago and selling them for a profit, I wonder if the signs the OP is talking about are from that source. ?

The best place to sell them?
    I was thinking eBay.
Would still like to know the history of the sign.
Was thinking of sending an email to either or both Maserati Australia or Maserati International about the event and the sign.

If I were the guy making repro enamel signs, I'd destroy whatever I had left and hope to god that Maserati/Ferrari SpA never get wind of this. They'll sue him for everything he's got. They DON'T mess around when it comes to IP infringement.

Yes, definitely contact Maserati to work out if they're genuine or not. If fake, you should also contact the Maserati Club to find out who made the fake signs. I'm sure Maserati/Ferrari SpA would also be fascinated to know.

Thankyou for your help, are you involved in the law?I'm unsure what to do with the signs as the last thing we want is legal issues over selling the signs.
Still does not help with how my father obtained the signs.
Now waiting for emails back from Maserati Australia and Maserati International, with luck they produced the signs.

Yes, I'm legally qualified and have an interest in Intellectual Property.

Let us know how you go. Hope they turn out to be the real thing.

I take it that it was Corrs, Chambers, Westgarth in Melbourne making the inquries ?

Also I withdraw my offer of $10, I don't want to get caught up in a potenitally nasty, sordid affair like this.

    Good night

I'll make some discreet inquiries with some very private collectors active in the Maserati scene to see if they know the source of the reproduction signs - it's a very small community and someone will know.

I strongly believe that this is not made by Maserati S.p.A.

    Not much worth IMO....

Well, if someone is using Maserati's IP/trademarks without Maserati SpA's express permission (usually given in the form of a licence) to manufacture and sell these enamel signs, Maserati SpA will definitely want to know, and will seek legal redress against the person or persons who have infringed their IP for profit.

They'd have their balls I reckon, if what the Ferrari Club in Aus went through with them is anything to go by.
