A friend of mine has a 1985 Maserati Biturbo ESR and he is trying to figure out what the ESR designates. Any info and production figures?

There were "E" models west and east coast versions here in the USA. "ESR", never heard of it. It's probably some BS crap a dealer did. Anyone can make up a badge and slap it on.
They requently stuck in sunroofs in an attempt to boost sales and stuck and "S" badge on them as well. The Factory "E" models were numbered and were basically a cosemtic treatment with a sporty suspension except that the west coast versions (distributed by Qvale) had liquid intercoolers which bumped hp from 185 to 205 but made for a huge increase of torque. They were the fastest ones.
