this car looks good with larger tyres i have seen others was this not so uncommon on boras? does it really need them or worck already nice with factory wheels and tyres?
I have it as a us666 and red in Sweden 1990. Maybe i got it wrong.Swedish registration PCB474 owned by someone in Stockholm.
Let me toss my Bora into the ring. I own #117.49.510 which is silver with red leather interior. It is a 1973 with Euro bumpers and 24K miles on the clock. I am considering selling it because of the usual reason, "too many cars, too little time". If interested contact me at [email protected]. Thanks. been mentioned before, but Bora seats are the best looking ever....I remember some 'prototype' Pantera seats with the same 'style'
The vinyl pad in front of the footwall protects the carpet on the vertical surface from shoe scuffs. Don't others have this item?
That picture is a bit rough so it makes the pad look weird but you have no adjustable footrest on that car. Given that there's very little legroom on that side (stupid battery) maybe it was just taken out? Bob S.
There is no evidence of a foot rest. In fact, there is no room for one. The battery is on the other side of the wall Does anyone have a photo of one with the foot rest? If so, is it an early or late Bora? Thanks,
Ivan, Yes we know the battery is there, a very dumb design. Since I have the adjustable foot rest in mine and my friends 1973 USA Bora had one I assumed they all did. Maybe people deleted or requested them? Sorry I don't have a piucture. It's identical to the one in my Espada. BTW, it is possible to move the battery (but to where?), cut open that panel and get back the legroom. I've seen it done on one car. At least the footrest isn't hydraulically operated ... ;>) Bob S.
Thanks to all who've contributed to this thread - the Bora was a gem that kept the late 70's from sucking completely, automotively speaking!
When I was 10 a neighbor had a Maserati Bora. In an era of boxy sedans in a small town in NC that thing looked like a space ship. He was reclusive and only got it out on rare occassions, but that car etched my mind. A few years ago I started looking for one. I bought this one (#998) from Ivan Ruiz. It had been resprayed an incorrect red at some point and I never liked the color on the car. I finally had the car stripped to the bare metal and resprayed to the original Celeste Chiaro. The painter had 300 hours in stripping, straightening and painting. The car had been wrecked at least 3 times and it had been painted at least 3 times with filler, skim coat and paint applied over the existing paint layers. The old filler and paint ultimately accumulated to a blob 2ft X 2ft X 4ft on his shop floor. Next thing on the list are hydraulics (couple of leaks), carpets and some minor interior repairs. He hasn't finished the original wheels (should be next week). looks great! are these BBS? they do look nice on the car, not too modern but sporty enough to get it a nice look
Made by Compomotive. Makes the car ride much better than on the XWX's. Other than XWX's and Pirelli P6000's there are lmost no tire choices for the 15" wheels.
P4000 or P4000E well work but they're certainly not a great performance tire. So what size rims did you end up with and what sizes are your tires? The color is very nice. Why would anyone ever paint it red? I assume you're not running the air pump and stuff right? I ask because it will heat the exhaust and burn the paint on that valence below the bumper if you run the car hard. Especially in Denver! Bob S. (1048)
Thanks on the color, my wife thought I was crazy. I think it strikes a cool contrast with the roof and other trim bits. The red was too harsh IMHO. I actually live in NC now, need to change my profile, but thanks for the heads up on the exhaust heat (air pumps and such were disabled long ago). I may put some heat shield material on the inside of the rear valence. Wheels are 16" and tires are 225 in the front and 255 in the back, I said P6000, but meant P4000 on the Pirellis. I haven't had the car in about 4mos, so I put about 150miles on it today. It is running very hot (not surprising since it was 90 deg outside), but hotter than normal. When repainted I didn't have the front spoiler put back on the car, so maybe airflow is affected. Still other things to sort out also. There is a gound in the circuit that controls the turn signals (blowing fuses), when the fan comes on the Alternator struggles to keep the battery charged, AC needs a recharge, passenger window needs alignment, usual stuff. Ah, the joys of owning a Maserati.
thats a fantastic color... so glad you brought her back to its former glory. please keep us updated on the interior restoration.... thanks for posting hf
