We've discussed this already in another thread. I would buy it instantly if it was made available by Maserati. But fat chance of that happening, Ferrari/FIAT would probably never agree to that.

I read somewhere that the designer is working for Bertone!

Well, I have a 308 GT4, and I used to own an old Fiat 850 in high school so I'm already sold on all things Bertone. You're spot on-Ferrari/Fiat would squash this just like they squashed the Lancia Stratos 'initiative'

why?? it is unfair to the public to let them drool over what could be a real hit in the market without a chance to let them hope for ownership. This style is one of the best of the modern car. They should price it around the GTS level.
After all is not maserati in the market to make money too? How can the public lean on them to put this into production? It seems everyone agree here and elsewhere: this design is a 10.
I hope Maser officials are reading these site and will act. I too would get in line for one.

well, the design wasn't released/made by Maserati (as far as we know), so they probably had no say in its release. If they did, they would never have allowed it to reach public eyes.

It is not illogical. They want to keep Ferrari at the higher segments (300k or more price tag). If they let Maserati build a car like this new Bora, it would receive a price tag of 150k or so, which is half price of a Ferrari. This means direct competition with LaFerrari, the Maserati is 10x more beautiful and half price or less.

Maserati was probably too successful for its own good, so they decided instead to use it as a competitor to Porsche and Audi, now their goal is to bring Maserati into the mass market with cheaper cars, not more expensive or as beautiful as this concept Bora.

At least thats the current scheme of things, which may change in the future...

Remember the Maserati Birdcage 75 concept car? It never went into production... (700hp V12... what a beauty)

The easy answer is the guys behind the gate with the horsies on it put these fires out before the really get going but of course it's more complex than that. Ferrari knows how to move the market (on the high end) and for decades Fiat essentially has let them-and they are good at it-they are a branding machine and they know how many cars to make: one less than...you know the rest!

Spot on--this is why you only see 4 seat Masers avail currently, at least in the US.

Did I mention I saw the new QP?!!!...one hell of a 4 seater (my opinion)

Fully agreed, the car is beautiful, but would the group put a car into competition the 458? I don't think so.

    But why not????

This has all be discussed in the Bora picture thread once already folks.

Maybe a moderator could merge this?

A little birdie told me to expect an announcement for "something" in 2015. This isn't it though.

Maserati has plenty on it's plate right now. How would this sort of a car help right now?
They had their very real halo car that went racing quite successfully already.
They're already "back" and now now they're focused on volume.

You'd never sell very many of these cars compared with what they have in plan already.
Even a scaled down 458 like car could cannibalize Ferrari sales.

I just see no upside at the moment.

    It's too bad though ...

Thank you for reminding us to recognize what Ferruccio Lamborghini realized decades ago: that is Ferrari is in the market just for the Ferrari Brand and not the affectionados. I guess that is why I never owned and will never own a F, despite having owned lambos and Masers.

If that is so, I just hope someone else will make that car and yes at 1/2 price of a Ferrari.

Well in this decade there is no 'affordable' new Lambo so maybe they are a lot more like Ferrari than they would like to admit-of course Audi does make a pretty bad ass super car themselves but I doubt that takes much biz from Lambo

If you want to develop the brand you not only have to produce good worthy product, you should allow it to grow the dream. Whilst Maserati is very successfully selling lots of 4 door cars currently, I believe the Maserati brand is so associated with performance that to never complete the range with a true performance statement 2 seater would be a crying shame. I'm sure there is room in the world for a worthy successor to the Bora and Ferrari can be big enough to have confidence in their own very strong appeal without denying Maserati a key image flagship. Without the image cars we know that the publics perception of the brand was at an all time low during the mid eighties. Not having a go Bob, just want those very special supercars back where they belong

And the further they get away from the eighties the dream grows-so for now it's 4 seaters-and believe me I want more out of these guys

They did the MC12. It worked out very well for their image. Be patient and perhaps we'll see something along the lines of what'd you like but not right away.

The street cars have to sell based upon comparison with all their competitors. Looks like so far the new Ghibli is doing well in that respect. Next up are dealerships in the proper locations and good customer support.

No one is not going to buy these new models now because they aren't producing a Bora like car right now.

Crawl, walk, run and then you can win races.

Yup, patience-also, I do dig the price tag on this new Ghibli-they are def trying to pick up some of the BMW 5 series and Jag crowd-at least in the US. I also really dig the AWD option
