I own a 2005 Maserati Coupe. I have a friend who owns an older model. We were discussing this and we both have tremendous brake noise. How badly are everybody elses brakes screeching? Mine are equivalent to a 18 wheeler's brake noise and worse at times. Just curious....any apt comparisons or adjectives people have come up with? Anybody do anything about it?
Park your car and run a garden hose at pressure at your brakes. They gather dust and the water stream "dusts" it off. All of my high performance cars have had this and this has fixed the problem in all cases, provided the brake pads and rotors were low mileage. Of course, if you've got high mileage on your rotors and pads, it's going to take more than just water... Let us know if this fixes your problem. J+M
My 575 squealed badly at first but subsding now at 3800 mile. Now only squeals when cold. Somewhat embarassing but that is the price you pay for high performance (ie HARD) brake pads. Fiorano and GTC brake pads even worse I hear. I've had folks make comments to me at intersections, "uh dude, for such an expensive car you'd think they put good brakes on it". Oh well, I don't even try to explain anymore ...
I have a 2004 coupe and the brakes were squeaking pretty loud for awhile. It was also very loud. I have about 8,000 miles now and it only does it on rare occassions. Funny thing about it was that it started immediately after I had to break really fast and hard on the freeway, almost missed an offramp. This was around 2,000 miles. It went away for the most part after I was trying to get some sound recordings through a tunnel. I had to break very hard just out of the tunnel. did this about 10-12 times, then noticed the squeak was gone.
04 Coup and it does it as well. Usually when coming to a slow stop or in traffic on the freewy. Pretty annoying as it is loud and high pitched.
only around town... when in stop and go traffic it get annoying... usually on a damp day otherwise dont have too many problems it is not really noticible
Mine started at around 1000-2000 miles and can get really loud. It usually occurs in traffic as well and after my car warms up. I now have approx. 6K miles on the car. Will try hosing them down this weekend. Ironically most of the people with the brake squeal live in So. California as do I. I was told by the dealer that the squeal was normal with these types of brakes however judged by the response here it is just a hit or miss thing. thanks for the input thus far.
the type of brakes does he mean cross drilled mite have a point i have the same problem on my BMW brake sqeal around town, but usually goes away pretty quickly
My 2005 Quattroporte squeals all of the time. Had the dealer "fix" it once; they clean then use some spray treatment. Worked for about 500 miles now the squeal is back and as loud as ever.
