Has anyone heard if Maserati is going to offer extended warraties like Ferrari does? Does anyboby have experience with after market warranties of other insurance companies and are they worth it?

    Yes I think Maserati does:

As far as after market warranties, I did a lot of looking into these when I bought a 911. You better be very careful with these and ask for a contract to review (not some pamphlet). Ask lots of questions. You would want one that offers bumper to bumper and wear and tear to be covered. A lot of companies don't cover wear and tear, but only after the part has failed. You need to research what is covered and more importantly what is not covered. You might try talking to your mechanic about which companies they have dealt with. When I did this they had mixed reviews about a few companies. In the end I didn't buy one. I figured it was best to find a good car, have it checked out and not worry about it. Plus I could not get anyone to cover for wear and tear.

I deal with warranty administrators all day, my best advice for this type of vehicle is only buy one that the manufacture is offering/backing. DO NOT buy something that is off the shelf by some other company. I promise you the coverage will be very minimal if any when you file a claim.

When I bought my QP in June I wanted the extended warranty option. Everyone at the dealership agreed that it was available, but no one know how to execute one, how much it would cost, or what paperwork was required.

So there you go! Yes, Maserati offers it. No, it isn't available.

Bah! That's pretty pathetic on the dealers part! It can be done and the cost of it runs anywhere between $4k-$5k for an additonal 12 months beyond the original 4yr/50k...up to a total of 90,000 miles!!!

Currently, in California other than Maserati (and I am not sure if they have an extended warranty program either), NO other extended warranty company has been approved by the Department of Insurance. Therefore, if someone tells you that you can buy an extended warranty on exotic cars, if it is not Maserati, they are lying and run as fast as you can, because they are a scam. There is a company, Total Shield, that currently offers extended warranties in this state on all other vehicles but exotics, that has filed with the State of California, but it is pending approval. Once they get passed, they are insured, backed by an A Rated insurance company and they wil be legit. Wr will be selling them and so will many other dealerships. I know we use them now, and they pay claims ( we used them on many Range Rovers, MBZ, Porsche and other vehicles we sell here). SO, there you have it.
