I have to agree that the word "budget" is something that should not be associated with buying or owning a vintage car but I was also told that "wealthy" people don't get that way by spending their money loosely or unwisely.

Some have the luxury of buying what they want when they want, realistically speaking, I do not.

    Good thinking.

So have you driven a good example?

    Not yet.
My expectation of the Ghibli is not a sport coupe but Sport/Touring car, somethng for the long haul that would afford some comfort and not leave me beat up at the end of a long day of driving.

For the twisty stuff I'll go jump in my BMW

Go drive one then. They are beautiful to look at but driving dynamics are a very subjective thing and ones imagination can easily fill in the blanks incorrectly. Would you marry a beautiful woman without ever having had a conversation or .... ?

You also might want to hang out at the Yahoo Groups Maserati or Maseratigtcars forums for a while. There are many long time owners on both those sites. Just a note, the MaseratiGTcars forum is a commercial site run by a parts supplier.

I've been to both, thanks. I am waiting for a call back to drive one, hopefully soon. If I don't like it I can always change my mind to something else.

Attached is a picture my 1972 Ghibli Coupe AM 115/49 2498. I am the third owner of this car originally sold in Ca. It now has 28000 miles and is one of my favorite drivers.

    Very nice!
The car looks very nice in subtle colors.
I kind of wish the one I am going to look at wasn't red. I have owned many red cars and prefer something different.

Yes that is Wilson's Bora in the background. It is the only metallic Green I have seen and it is very attreactive. Yes the wheels are Dayton wire wheels. I had them made with 16 inch rims so I can get good tires. I have the original Borronis but they need to be rebuilt. This was at a run we had in the Delta that Wilson set up. We had 14 cars

I love the coupes but the spiders have to be one of the best looking cars ever designed. Proportions and balance are perfect.

    +1

All the exotics need this kind of perspective when being photographed, but it gives you a new appreciation for the Ghibli. What a stunner.

Metal versus plastic... artists versus wind tunnel, etc.

What a beautiful design that ages sooo... gracefully.

I had a friend in Ann Arbor, buy a nice one for $7500., here in AA. He didn't keep it of course, thought it was unaffordable to own. He may have been right at the time, but it is almost so rare that it is unaffordable today.

    Ciao...Paolo

I like the coupes better, but we are talking the difference between degrees of perfection. Here is a zoom of the red car

This has always been one of my favorite Masers. The sort of gold metallic color on page 3, what color is that? What type of values do the coupes command, range for unrestored decent shape to restored cars?

    Jeff,
I "found" one of the VERY rare prototypes of the Ghibli. This car is in bad condition and needs a total restoration. The engine is the ports for the planned double-ignition, the dashboard is unique and the car has the big rear hood. I believe that this car could proppably be one of the Motorshow cars from that period - or perhaps its the car from the Turin Motorshow 1966! This car is for sale. Asking price are Euro 23,500 !

    Ciao!

Yep - its located in the EU. No it has door handles! Accourding to my sources the invisible door handles came only to the Turino Motorshow-car and didn`t make it into production. I assume the car was "modified" later to match the series but was clearly a pre-production car. Yep -photos available: [email protected]

    Thanks for your interest!

    Ciao!
