Hi all, I'm intending to purchase a 2yr old Maserati Granturismo 4.2, with about 20,000km on it. I'm concerned, however, about the overall maintainence costs/schedule of the car as I have never owned a coupe before, moreover it's a maserati.

If it's not too much trouble, would you guys mind sharing:

    1) Maintainence Schedule
    2) Maintainence Cost (details of things changed?)
    3) Anything I should be looking out for / should know about? eg. Tranny, clutch?

Thanks for your time! Look forward to owning this beauty and join you guys :)

    Cheers!

Hi there. I am the owner (since new) of a 2008 4.2L GT. I love the car and have had very, very few issues. The only major item that went wrong (so far) was the power steering pump. My dealer replaced the system under warranty with no problems.

Based on the mileage of the car you are purchasing, it will still be under manufacturer's warranty. If you are near an authorized dealer, you should be fine for another two years.

Of course, I would recomend a PPI prior to purchase. Have you had one performed? I really stress the importance in order to determine the mechanicals are in good order.

As for visible items to look at.....take a look at the leather covering the rear of the center console right above the air vents for the rear seats. That leather is very thin and is prone to developing small tears. Also, take a look at the rocker panels. It seems that some early models had a problem with warping in the rocker panels.

As for other maintenance, oil change costs are what you would expect. Since this model is relatively new, there really is not much data out there for out-of-warranty repairs.

Congratulations and glad to see you on the forum!

I've got 24,000 miles in the last 30 months on my MGT and other than tires, the only issue I had was the infotainment unit refusing to start up from time to time. The dealer ultimately replaced the unit and it's been fine ever since. The car has been the most trouble free daily driver I've owned - far better than AMG and BMW M cars. The car still does not have a single rattle or squeak.

If I had to nit pick, my only criticism is that the car is a bit underpowered for a big GT. Mine is the 4.2L and it would be nice to have more thump (especially torque) w/out needing to get the revs up. The 4.7L is an improvement, but what the car really needs is something similar to the 6.3L AMG motor. That type of powerplant would make the car comparable to and more usable than a 599.

    Good luck to you.

I have had a 4.2 for a year now with no serious issues. A few warranty items, radio selector buttons not working and the peeling panel issue. The note about the rear area behind the seats is very true, mine has a tear. I don't believe this is leather though. It is just the ridiculously soft covering material that Maserati uses which isn't strong enough in areas such as this.

Maintenance costs are oviously going to be higher than most other brands just becase of the name on the back. But, the car is pretty robust and other than tires and an annual oil change, doesn't require much.

Transmission in the 4.2 is the same ZF automatic in many other brands. No known reliability issues there.

Thanks so much for all of your responses. It certainly gave me assurance in committing in one, probably by the end of the year. I look forward to be a fellow maserati driver soon :D Once again, thanks so much for your input :)
