Hello all Mexico Owners.... I have a question I am hoping I can get some help with regarding my Mexixo (112.074).. I attempted to start the car after its winter rest, and for the first time during my ownership it failed to start... Symptoms: No fuel No power to fuel pumps (no clicking sound being heard) I tried replacing the fuse and did get one of the pumps to begin operating (heard clicking).. When I turned the key further to start the car, I heard a light thud and no more clicking of the fuel pump... I then checked for power at the fuse in the fuse box and as suspected, no power... I did not try jumping from the always hot lead to the lead supplying the power to the pumps at the switch... Bottom line is I believe I have a bad ignition switch... I would like to try using one of the ones from my Mistral and/or QPI, as they all appear to be similar... My question is... Does anyone know what the markings on the rear of the ignition switch mean?? The markings (numbers) are right by the leads and are labeled as follows: 15/54 50 16 INT 30 This is probably something I should know by now, but have not had a problem with an ignition switch until possibly now... Thanks in advance... Mike
Followup to my previous post... I pulled the ignition switch from my QP1, figuring the switch would be identical given the cars are the same year (1967).. I should have known, that they wouldn't be... The switch terminal markings on the QP1 switch are as follows: 50 INT 30 30/1 15 16 I am going to assume here the 30 and 30/1 terminals are the same as the two posts marked 30 on the Mexico switch.. But I don't understand why the INT has two posts on the Mexico and only one on the QP1 switch.. Also I'm trying to figure out why the Mexico has a terminal marked 15/54 while the QP1 switch does not.... I tried searching the internet as I would like to know what these terminal markings mean, but found nothing... Anybody have any ideas??? Mike
Hi VeloceOne..... Yes, I am certain the battery is fine.... But, I will double-check it tomorrow... The last few times I ran the car, I noticed the ignition switch getting hot... I am pretty certain that is not normal.... Mike
Very true Bob... Hot ignition switch is not a good thing!!! Still looking/hoping for an answer on the ignition switch terminal markings as mentioned in my previous posts... Mike
Hello Mike, For your sake I was hoping that a knowledgeable person would speak up. Lacking that so far, I will offer the following: Use an ohm meter or some sort of continuity tester to examine your known good switch (QP1). Hopefully you know what terminal takes the "hot" battery lead. With the key in the "off" position, probe between that "hot" terminal and touch a few others to see what has continuity. Then switch the key to to the "run" position and repeat the process. Finally, hold the key in the "start" position and repeat agin. Make a little chart of your discoveries. You should be able to correlate most of the terminal functions of the QP1 switch and the Mexico switch due to identical or very similar tag numbers as you've already noted. QP1 <=> Mexico 50 <=> 50 INT <=> INT 30 <=> 30 30/1 <=> 30 again? 15 <=> 15/54 ? 16 <=> 16 So check your Mexico switch against the continuity you discovered on your QP1 switch. If it checks the same, then the Mexico switch might be okay. Take another guess. If it does not check out, the Mexico switch might indeed be bad. (As to the exact meaning of the tag numbers, they probably have meaning in the context of the Fiat or whatever car they sourced the switch from. The tags probably mean nothing to a Maserati owner). Having said all that, I suspect that you might be "barking up the wrong tree". With the switch back in the Mexico, and the key in the "run" position, what else works and what does not? Windshield wipers? Radio? Passenger compartment fan? Turn signals? Also, can you get a wiring diagram from Maserati Net or whoever you deal with where you live? Please report back with your findings! Carmine
I had trouble with the ignition switch getting hot, a sign that there is a bad contact somewhere inside. I was told that the FIAT 600 ignition switch is the same as the one of my 3500GT. Bought one. It works. Only difference is the bezel: I retained the original chrome plateted one rather than the aluminium FIAT one. Also, the key is now marked FIAT! Lavaux/Wilfried
