    Hi Rolf

The Grills were actually powdercoated a steal grey about 12 years ago!
The original colour on mine was a sort of steal gray with a hint of purple but I have no idea if that was the correct colour as the car had been painted.

    Hi Graeme,

I may add two contacts that Marc recommended. I have visited both of them at their workshops, and bough parts for my Khamsin and Meraks for them both.

Yes you could add Franco Tralli in Bomporto near Modena though he onyl occasionally sells parts and Schiemenz in Germany a good place for GT cars though he fell out with the German club as was discussed here in the past. Tralli has no website but Schiemenz in Bad Godesberg googles right up.

    best regards,

    Marc

PS: anybody familar with this car -I am not- or able to identify what country these bizarre numberplates are from? Found photos on indicated website, they were shot in northern France...

    Hi Marc,

If I didn't know any better they look like UK plates in terms of numner/ letter format. However the rear plate should be yellow to be totally correct. Very strange plates indeed.

    Hi Bal!

Good to have you visit again. Yes my 2 cent feeling, since this plate is very unusual is this is an eastern European plate, after all we have one in Poland (276) and one in Croatia (062) so...

Those two other cars are both silver by the way.

...but...on the other hand northern France is near England, a huge number of Brits have moved there -be it as a holiday home or main/only residence-so perhaps this car was bought by a Brit but not brought to the UK for registration so the number plates were made locally after the Uk assigned the number..is that conceivable? My imagination has officially run out on this! Is there any way to check a UK number plate?

    How is your car progressing?

    best regards,

    Marc

I doubt they are eastern european. I have seen most of that area, and the style of the plates does not match what you see there. My guess is that it is an african registration. There are several countries that use that number/letter combination, for example Kenya.

My thoughts were the same as Bal's, it does look like a 1977 UK plate, but with
the wrong colour on the rear. Out of idle curiosity Marc, I checked the number on the
DVLA website, which will tell you the current status of that car. Unfortunately it came
up with no match; which I suppose could mean the car is no longer in the UK (if it was
ever there), or of course it maybe somewhere else! It does look ever so handsome in that blue though.....
    Best regards.
    Mark.

    Hi Marc,

I guess it will remain one of those mysteries.

My car is progressing slowly. The engine is now back together and looks a million dollars. Working on the engine bay, light tidy up before the V8 goes back in. Rebuilt LHM bits are back in as well as is the repaired fuel tank. Getting some pipes to replace 30 year old items such as the fuel lines etc.

Looking forward to hearing it roar in the not too distant future.

Pictures please? I want to see what a million dollar K engine looks like?
Attached a pic of my engine before it jumped back in place, certainly not worth more than the whole car!:)

    Hi Marc,

This baby looks like a hot rod with its lowered front suspension. Can imagine that one thinks about it when one sees the free space between wheel arch and tire; not my taste. Never saw this done before either!

Bal keep up the good work, look forward to the end result:)

Bart bonjour yes indeed that car was lowered at the front by its first owner, hi sons said so but not sure why...no speed bumps back then thankfully, could be a problem now...

As some of you may already know the new factory produced Classiche kit for the Khamsin is now out.

A Khamsin owner and major collector had the opportunity to see it recently and was most impressed. A very nice and useful reference.
The kits include a CD Rom, reproductions of the period brochures, workshop manuals for each version, a scale model and a drawing.

You can order these from your dealer, not sure if they are available in the US yet, no reason why there should be a delay.

These kits have another benefit which is that they help strenghten Maserati's Classiche department which had until a few years ago an uncertain future after the retirement of Ermanno Cozza. Now with him still there, Fabio Collina doing an excellent and enthusiastic job things are looking good. This is important for the cause.

While the text below is in Italian the kits will be availble in English of course.

I have strictly no commercial affiliation with these kits or the factory.

    best regards,

    Marc

    Hi Marc,

this is a typical EU numberplate, with the blue riband on the left side, probably from an eastern country lika Latvia or Estonia, maybe Hungaria or Malta. go:

for samples of the EU numberplates.

    Good morning Rolf:

Thank you for your thoughts and the link, I certainly can't guess beyond that so a mystery at least for now!

Speaking of Hungary, this car in the first two photos, displayed in a show a few years ago in Budapest...I always assumed until recently that it was the car normally displayed in the Manro Classics museum dealership in Austria the country "next door" well it seems it isn't so there is this mystery car in Hungary!
The differences? The Austrian car -which a friend who visited finally identified as #256- has the rear glass painted -both in recent photos and in about ten year old ones- whereas the Budapest car does not, also the latter appears to have one mirror, though the passenger one could be just out of sight-whereas the Austrian car has two.

The first two photos show the car in Budapest, the other two 256 in Austria. I will see that car when I visit for the International meet in September.

    Anyone here in Budapest:)!?

    best regards,

    Marc

    Hi,

I just wanted to give a heads up. I posted some photo's of the most recent 'Tehran Cafe Racers' lunch group meeting in the Middle East section. For anybody interested, Armaz joined us with his Khamsin and his car can be seen in a couple of the pictures.

    Enjoy,

FYI I spoke this week by email to a Gentleman who is doing serious research on the Shah's cars and AM120130 (or any other Khamsin) has not shown up so far in the information that he has. Time will tell. Still the car looks great and is driven and enjoyed often: well done Reddy!

this is one of those slightly sad and wishful posts-i'm looking for a euro model 5 speed for sale in the states-black/dark blue/dark grey would be lovely...anyone know of such a beast? in good condition would be splendid, since i've been restoring three cars simultaneously, and i'd like to have something to drive, for a change!

any help would be top class...

    thanks

    Hello Phil and welcome.

Unfortunately you are looking for the golden unicorn.
There are to my knowledge no Euro 5 speed Khamsins in the US at present, I know of just one in Canada, AM120010 and have not spoken to its owner in years.

There were a few imported privately when new but they have long ago gone back to Europe.
The last one I know of, AM120194, was for sale in the midwest and sold to Brazil, the only K there.

To add further bad news of the 155 Us cars of which 55 were autos and exactly 100 5 speed, at least 30 5 speeds are in Europe, Germany mostly. At present I don't know of any ready to roll 5 speed for sale in the US and usually as soon a one appears it is promptly swept away to Europe. Then when you count a dozen cars -very approximately- destroyed, burned crashed damaged in transit it leaves us with about 50 5 speed in the US: one per state...

So if you want it now look for it in Europe or if you can be patient keep a constant eye on Ebay, they show up about 4 times a year.

There were two 5 speeds for sale in recent months but needing full restoration: a silver car on Ebay near Burbank California and a red car with red bumpers (!) near New York discussed here not so long ago.

Voilà: sorry to be the bearer of bad news but if you want to seek one out in Europe I will be glad to help.

    best regards,

    Marc
