Khamsinisti, I just returned from a test drive after I finished the periphery around the water pump revision. I did not go as far as the Coliseum The incontinence problem seems solved thanks to the parts supply by MIE. On the road the tridente does not look as big as the first pic by wide angle lens and I am sure the car will never be taken again for a Fiero. Obviously the comment by a real connoisseur. We had enough rain the last days to flush the salt away from the streets and the wet damp streets are a joy to get the tail end out a bit in the curves and roundabouts. Hi all, in order to shorten the winter break with the K off the street I attach some pictures from last season. Hope you enjoy it. See you in Dijon then... Hi Otto, Great shots! The Blue color seems somewhat brighter than the original dark blue color but suits the car perfectly. Attached some pictures of my T-Top K, I made them yesterday during a nice run. Could someone whose car may be in a dismantled state right now tell me (and even better, without wanting to be too demanding, photograph) the model or type of electric Bosch (?) horn which act as the city horn? Mine is simply missing. I would also appreciate an image of the horn in situ, if possible. In addition, there seems to be yet another non-responsive switch which should trigger fog or spot lights. It is located on the left of the steering wheel (three in a row, next to rear window defrosting and city/highway horn). Could I ask for somebody to post pictures of the mounting of their fog/spot lights? I have seen them in the spare wheel well but do not understand how you could still have access to the spare wheel in that set up. As always, thank you very much in advance for your responses and apologies to the uninterested! Pascal
Otto superb photos thanks for posting and yes see you near Dijon in just half a year! Bart very nice shots too Below is the link to the aforementioned khamsin AM120US1228 http://www.motorcargallery.com/car_50.html It had been sold by Ivan to someone up north who did not drive more than 100 miles (!) but did what appears to be a superb paint job and yes! a bumper conversion, one more undisfigured soon Mike will be al alone with his, like a one man sect Of course it is always best to stick to the original color but there are sooo many silver cars that it is understandable that someone would want to vary and this gunmetal variation, already tried in France on AM120358 though a bit darker, really works on a Khamsin. Here is how the car was when Ivan sold it to the now ex owner: http://www.thecarnut.com/Khamsin77Silver.html I am not connected with its sale. Speaking of silver cars I received this morning data and photos on yet another, in a discrete private collection in Austria, two owner car, all original, in superb condition. Thank you to the person who helped me get the data. best regards, Marc PS: Pascal I am sure someone will be able to help you and don't apologize this forum is here to be useful in every way possible
After Ivan sold this car it was being worked on at Classic Coach in NJ for a very long time. I have no idea what all was done there. It wasn't a full restoration though. I never saw it after all the work was done. I like that paint color. I find silver so boring. A nice combination. That last paragraph in the listing is a stretch. It was a non operative car when Ivan bought it. I was looking at it too at the time. The guy couldn't figure out how to repair the hydraulics so it sat for a while. AFIK nothing horrible though.
Pascal, coincidentally I have been communicating on the fog lights position with Maserati Classiche. Below is an excerpt from the mail: I have checked about your questions and I have found the following information: 1) Fog Lights: the fog lights were at that time an optional. Very few were ordered by the Clients, and Mr.Cozza told me that normally the fog lights were assembled at each side of the grill (as in pic 037). I have checked in the historical archive and no one of the car you have mentioned (AM120*104* - AM120*008* - AM120*250*) were produced with the optional of the fog lights. End of quote. Ciao, Bart
Hi Pascal The lights were not fitted but the wiring was. I used it for the electric headlight coversion. Even the plug connetor is fitted. And while we are on it the euro emergency lights switch connector and hole are is in behind the trim. I used this as the switch to raise and lower the lights. Regrads Graeme
... under restoration. The fog lights (hella made) on the no. 104 were not org. equipped by the factory and are gone anyway. Marek Evert Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Hello all: best wishes for a wonderful Christmas and a happy new year with many kilometers behind the volante of your K! -I am very happy to say that I have just one chapter and the conclusion/epilogue left to write in my book which will come out in the spring in time for Khamsin Quaranta. It was'nt meant to happen like that but that is just how things will pan out. One of the two chapters (for which I already of course have quite a bit of data;-) is the... Khamsin one and I will start it tomorrow, on paper instead of a glaring computer screen, so that will be my double Christmas treat and just like a cake it will be very big -We have strong interest in KHAMSIN QUARANTA and I am very optimistic that we will have a good number of cars! For those who haven't yet registered the sooner the better and remember there are four pacakges to suit all tastes and budgets. From Monaco we will have 387 which was used in a good article in Octane in 2006. British owners will be convoying as will the Norwegians and I am sure the same will be true for the Swiss and Germans. Do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions: [email protected] ...and do get your cars ready with plenty of advance time to avoid getting caught out. -Just stumbled on this: it is the Khamsin AM120392 of former Dutch club President Fritz Harms on the road during the International meeting in Austria this September. A very good car I was fortunate to travel in in May. The camera car follows and then leads the K. Fritz plays along at the end which is nice. Do yourself a favour and cut off the volume as all you can hear is windnoise...and a bit of Dutch...who wants to hear that;-) Sorry had to tease Bart and our other Netherlands friends. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=70ca41bvaJ0[/ame] best regards, Marc
Thank you Marek. Now that we know for sure that it was a Bosch unit, do you happen to know, or can you guess which one of these numbers would be a model number? Would hate to have a fine machine like the Khamsin sound like a Fiat 500! Pascal
It was my dad's. We called it "The Bullet". He and two friends brought them back from a trip to Italy. It was a really cool gloden bronze colour. I have photos. Nice car. Who painted it red?
Pascal, it reads Bosch 400Hz 12V 0320123013; but I cannot guarantee that it wasn't used onTopolinos ... Best, Marek
Happy new year all and many happy K miles! I first heard of it during Maser Miglia 2000 when riding in Nevada with Brit connoisseur George Perfect in a borrowed Bora. George explained that the infamous Jeremy Clarkson had years before done a video testing his Khamsin (AM120359 red tan ex Rocco Forte of the Trusthouse Forte hotel chain). I asked GP about it many times but he could never find his tape....very frustrating... Three years ago I emailed the Top Gear folks but got royally ignored...more frustration and now....it is thankfully on Youtube: here it is! George was very happy to hear the news and use it again and mentioned that along with outrunning Swiss police (just joking officer really;-) that was one of the highlights of his Khamsin ownership. He said there had been some more footage but as usual they don't keep everything. So enjoy it: I only had to wait TWELWE YEARS to see it! The K is featured in a segment with various other Masers: [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VgIyaKRsEts[/ame] best regards, Marc
Thanks for finding that one Marc. Not much driving of the Khamsin though ... No mention of the Bora Strangely enough He likes the 224 in that video and later crushed a Biturbo in another. I wasn't expecting him to like the 224. I wondered if he's changed his mind now? A bit of a manic depressive on that subject. He looks barely 20 in that video ...
Best in this video (from the stoneage!) was the 250F - even when it was one of the Cameron-Millar-replicas...! Yes, and good desicion to crush the Biturbo years later! Ciao! Walter
Hi Both: Bob: yes it is alas short and hopeless to try to get the extra footage, however in consolation one of our own will be making a very nice video which will be for sale, I will let him talk about it when he wants to if he wants to: he is not making it for commercial reasons just fun. There is a whole separate Bora video which is easy to find on youtube, a good one too. But that is off topic the Biturbo crushing too but I wonder if de Tomaso saw it and had his stroke then? Think it happened later (the crushing). Yes he looks very young. I would like to get him into another Khamsin for a more in depth clip that would be great...come to think of it there is someone like him in the US I would like to get in one....will try to get that organized for Khamsin Quaranta...and no, no names Walter: Cameron Millar's family still has AM120325 a car with quite a presence and a nice registration number: I am partial to Tipo 151's! best regards, Marc Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Yes, I know about Cameron`s K and that its still in the family. Have very fond memories of him when we were chasing each other in Goodwood 1999, both in our K.`s!! Lots of fun with this great charachter!! I still miss him... Ciao! Walter
Hello all! I have just spent three days going through my files for the book and for Khamsin Quaranta and have in creating a PDF ascertained the number of US market Khamsins, ie cars initially sold in the US which are now in Europe. Of the 155 US spec Khamsins (of which 100 even were 5 speed and 55 automatic) there are now to my knowledge..... . . . . . . . 47 in Europe, yes fourty seven! So that and a few that I no doubt don't know about, is a full third. If I were to take the time I could ascertain the proprtion of gearbox types (not my purpose right now, I am concerned with zeroing in on every EEC K owner to get him the event information by this weekend at the latest) but it does not take a rocket scientist to undesrtand that 5 speed cars have been the ones primarily crossing the Atlantic. I will have the gearbox statistic with quite a few others in the book of course. When you consider cars crashed, burned rusted out parted out in the US the count is far far less than what it is in the EEC. Food for thought! By the way I finished the book text on December 31st, what a relief! So now a full month of editing, adding notes nitty gritty... Time for dinner, good night Marc
But I continue to wonder ... how many Euro cars were imported to the US under the grey market heyday? Examples of everything else seemed to show up.
Very good point Hans, to my knowledge just a handful possibly ten but I doubt it. The first two listings here: http://www.maseratikhamsinregistry.com/mysterycars.html (first one was bought from Jean Yves Deillon in Miami by Jacques Pozzo di Borgo for parts and since scrapped I think I have the chassis number but am not sure, Jacques did not recall) A gold or rame car in an early MIE club summer gathering in the late 70's or early 80's (car was described as rust colored and getting a lot of attention from those present since most had only seen the "design by Nader" version, 194 which was sold by Mark Hyman to Brazil, 192 which is a Japanese market car that Symbolic took there as part trade and which therefore ended up here accidentally and was sold by another dealer to Germany. ...can't think of any others but would love to hear about these if anybody has any info or memories no matter how vague. Anyone: Francis, Ivan? best regards, Marc
Marc, just had a look on your Khamsin-Registry. Seems that you did not fully updated the recods as I supplied much more infos as shown there. Also -for example!- the infos reg. the modification of #238 are not correct (you also mention the incorrect #328-VIN!) ! I think you should mentioned WHY the car had got a modified nose. Ciao! Walter
Walter: I refer you to my post 1209 in full but paragraph 2 in particular, which contains your answer. http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?p=138947487&highlight=webmaster#post138947487 I appreciate you sharing your data with me in April of 2008 but again it was far too costly to even consider having my webmaster insert every car edit every spark plug change owners might inform me of. For this reason it was not practical to update that part of the site or any of it, it is always soemthing I intended to do after I finish the book and hopefully just before it comes out. I am extremely busy with it and K40. For the book once I finish editing my main text (100000 words +) at the end of this month I will then clean up my Registry notes to integrate them. I have now been doign the MKR for 7 years and with much help (which will be recognized in the book) and work I have been able to track down about 340 cars of the 430 built. Re 328 I have covered it at lenght in this thread with all the correct information and have had very good communication with its owner. For 238 there is nothing in the car by car page so I don't see how you saw something non existent. I am glad that you are showing sudden renewed interest in Khamsins since I announced my event. MS
