Khamsin drive in Maserati North America newsletter. These things are usually a waste of time discussing shallow lifestyle matters but they are finally beginning to look at classic Maseratis and here they drive three of Doug Magnon's cars including AM120US1046 which is gorgeous in fly yellow. I think the journalist as Jay Lamm but not sure. http://www.maseratiamerica.com/MaseratiMonthly/33/MM_33_Cars.aspx
I was just informed by Adolfo Orsi that Khamsin AM120270, the white car I posted photos of a few pages ago is now for sale at Autoluce in Modena. http://www.autoluce.com/ 70EK I am told. The car is in origianl colors was delivered new to Lucca in Tuscany. As mentioned I rode in this car last year and it is a very good one, Franco Tralli from Bomporto near Modena did a lot of work on it. Reto, Emilio, any others here is your chance! I am not involved in any way. Best regards, Marc Image Unavailable, Please Login
As a linguist I always get a good laugh out of botched translations but this one for the white K mentioned above is a gem: reminds me of some 770's brochures WONDERFUL MASERATI KHAMSIN OF 1977, THE INNER NERO KM 69000, RESTORATION TOTAL OF CAR AND EXECUTED WHITE WOMAN IN WAY MANIACALE. CAR FOR TRUE GETS PASSIONATE YOU OF TRADITION MASERATI. EXCELLENT CONDITIONS OF THE CAR, OPTIMAL CONDITIONS OF AESTHETIC AND MECHANICS. ULTERIOR PHOTOS TO SITUATED www.autoluce.com [email protected] I am not at home this weekend so will post the weekly fix tomorrow. Best regards, Marc
LOL yes! Here are some photos that arrived all by themselves from New zealand, Khamsin AM120423, a very late right hand drive car in a private collection in Auckland. Cars were packed in very tight so photos are cramped. Note rhd but kms not miles, non standard gear lever and igntion cut off switch next to gear lever. Photos of the Eric Wilson collection in in Auckland courtesy Graham Morris: thanks Graham. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
A little item of memorabilia just obtained on Ebay: bought it from a vendor in Australia but it was made in St Vincent and the Grenadines. Typically small countries like that supplement their income by emitting all sorts of unusual stamps specifically to snag the interest of collectors. Image Unavailable, Please Login
the white car is REALLY GOOD more the color suits the car i still think 70k euro is too much money for it...what do you think? i thought it was 50k range
Hello Emilo: I am on someone else's laptop with a strange keyboard so short answer: if I had the 70K Euro I would buy it. It is a healthy very well revised taken care of car. Wait to see what the artcurial auction car does in 4 days, that could be the car for you or it could be a way for you to negotiate a better price. The auction in in St Cloud near Paris on, I think, the 28th. www. artcurial.com that is a good car too but used very little in last 2 years with resale red. Best regards, Marc
Can`t agree more with the asking price of 70K Euros - if its a very well pampered car! Also the white color makes it "molto speciale"! Seems to be a very good car! Ciao! Walter
hi Marc tks for the sincere answer i am going to look at an other car this weeck (not a maserati) if deal won't go trhrough i will call auto luce and see how "firm" the request is i have no doubts at 70 k euro this is good bang for the bucks, the car looks great and you said it drives great i think i know the maserati shop that took care of and the color IS great on the car (rare and appealing to) still at 70k it is soooo close to some nice and not bad ghiblis.....
Hello Emilio: I was away for 2 days. Like I wrote see how the artcurial auction car does in 48 hours (on the 28th) and take it from there. In my opinion the white #270 Khamsin is consigned to Autoluce so it is up to them to take your offer to the owner. Ghibli or Khamsin is a matter of personal taste but be aware that if you are a driver then there is a big difference: one is a clear evolution of the other and a Khamsin is bullet proof as long as you drive it often enough, at least twice a month. I drove mine about 3 times a week the year I had it in Florida and never had the slightest problem. The following year when I was in Europe and it sat then I had some small issues when I came back but nothing much. Tackling the hills of the Appenino with gusto you will be a lot happier in a Khamsin than in a Ghibli which soon feels heavy whereas a K thanks to the assisted clutch, steering and inexhaustible brakes you will feel you are in a Lotus Elan...with big lungs. It really has excellent and vers nimble handling. But anyway go with your heart, it's about feeling not statistics! Best regards, Marc
Marc, agree with you on some point. But the Khamsin is also a heavy bird!!! But it has the more modern suspension while the Ghibli has its very much 50ies rear suspension. The Khamsin has the much better brake effectivness (even when I have my difficulties with them) and the better suspension covers the weight of the car a bit more. But drive the K on the old Nuerburgring and you need aaaaaaaaaaaall the space you can get there!!! Ciao! Walter
Yes for the track it would be interesting to do a Khamsin "leggera" with a lot of weight stripped off...and yes I realize that by driving it only in flat Florida with zero twisty roads I did not get a full impression of the handling. In fact when I spent 6 months in Modena early 2006 I remember thinking when driving flat out in normal cars on the fabulous roads in the hills between Modena, Lucca and Bologna that if I brought the Khamsin over I would kill myself;-)
...:))) !!! Also the Khamsin too soft on the dumpers! Problem with the car is that when you use it on a circuit and you have a slower car in front that you want to overtake the driver of this other car needs to drive without any mistakes. If he makes a mistake just in front of you this "Green Soup" of the Khamsin-steering doesn`t give a chance within a whisper of a second! The Khamsin is fantastic on long straights with loooong curves...and when there is nobody! So, its a car for "The Loneley"!! Veeeeery romantic....... Ciao! Walter
I want to clarify that I meant that I would kill myself by getting too excited as these roads are incredibly challenging and enjoyable and that they are addictive so to drive them in the K I might have become ....somewhat insufficiently reasonable, not around other cars of course but when I was alone on a clear stretch! So I did not mean that the car is dangerous in any way, it certainly isn't. This being said yes I agree with you that it is not a 911 or a Berlinette Alpine tiny agile straight shooting rally car, its conception was not done with on the limit twisty back road driving.
Hej Magnus hur mar du!? I have heard Sweden is having a better summer than most of Europe...unfortunately I will not be going because my father is very ill...
I am sorry to hear about your father i hope his going to be better. Jag mår bra hoppas att din pappa tillfrisknar.Sommarn är än så länge lite halvdan men det ska bli bättre på Onsdag säger Vädergubbarna. Best regards Magnus Andersson
Mark and/or Walter: I was at the Parc Ferme show in London today where I was told that Maserati built one, factory, Khamsin racecar. Can either one of you shed some light on its existence? Pascal
Good morning all! Ahem: absolutely no, non, nein, nej, niet , ie: that is complete horse manure! No such car ever existed. Did you show your car there Pascal? Are you coming to Le Mans Classic, and you Walter? I will be driving a car in the race (unless it is a monsoon, I don't want to be the idiot of the week but will hunt eagerly for Khamsins and other Modenese creatures in the club paddocks and elsewhere! Best regards, Marc
