Well, I have been told by a well-known collector, that there actually is one, although no one knows about it! I may be able to organize a due diligence trip as the car car is actually in Germany! Should I pursue it, get some more details?

    Pascal,
if the car is in The Fatherland I would love to see this ...eh..."something"! But a Khamsin, that has a quit flexible body due to its very thin A-colums and is heavy like the "Bismarck" on heavy seas, converted to race specs --I doubt very much that someone is/was so stupid to take it into competition.

    Ciao!

I agree with you in terms of the less than amazing starting point. I have not been told that it has been raced but that it was built by the factory as a race car. I equally agree with you that it could very well be worth a trip, especially if it gives me the opportunity to get mine out of the garage and test it on your wonderful (although better a few years ago) autobahn network!

    Hello from Paris.

Was away from computers for 5 days...which was a nice change.

Walter: Ah so now you are comparing it to the Bismarck?! What next an aircraft carrier?!-)! In that case a Daytona is a supertanker!;-)

I am PMing you my cell phone, I will be at Le Mans from thursday late morning.

Pascal I assume you are not coming?

It is important to differentiate between a professional racing effort and some very amateurish souping up, in some cases cars have been modified but are downright laughable and are not worth talking about. In any case I am curious but also fear that it will be some horrible abortion...if it strue...

Below is something I bought on Ebay: these were legal stamps for local use, as apparently in Australia it is legal for local clubs to emit their own stamp. They took a common Khamsin brochure photo for the stamp, it shows a car with non standard US sidelights, more than likely the first car to get any such lights befroe they settled on the definitive "Ralf Nader pimples."

I will check emauil tomorrow and hen nothing until Tuesday 15th, am camping at Le Mans!:)

    Best regards,

    Marc

    Marc,
I wrote this because the Khamsin as a race-car is GaGa!!! Yes, its heavy like the "Bismarck" on circuits and needs all the space!
OK, the Daytona is a heafy truck - but some versions came with alloy coachwork which makes it much better than the Khamsin when it comes to racing (the better handling brakes, steering and gearbox the Ferrari!). Also the engine is for racing much stronger!

    Ciao!

    Hello all!

Le Mans Classic was unbelievable, on track and off. I wish I could have cloned myself as I was mostly busy racing a very special car in grid 4 but I still had time to go through the club paddocks (people with their own road registered sprotscars) and they came from all over Europe: 82000 people. Unfortunately if there were 1000 Porsches, about 150 Ferraris, a dozen Lambos 7 Isos, 1 Bizzarrini there were about 30, more or less, Masrs but just one Khamsin.

I finally met Walter which was nice and he introduced me to the owner of that Khamsin, Fritz Harms, the president of the Dutch Maserati club who has AM120392 a very fine car in excellent condition in that very interesting burnt orange color, which is the color it was painted new. Jean Pierre Lhomer the owner of the Khamsin spyder was there, albeit with his 3500 Vignale spyder. I wedged myself in the back seat -very cramped!- and went along as he and a friend took part in a parade lap, which was interesting. While I saw no dangerous behavior while pracicing and racing, the parade laps open to the public were scary as wannabe drivers were doing everything wrong and this was just a parade lap without helmets. Still it was enjoyable, I just wish there had been more Khamsins.

This is now my favorite racing event, far better than Monterey and its slow uninteresting track, Le Mans is the real thing, the quality and quantity of the cars raced was mindblowing, the crowd was one of connoisseurs, no Eurotrash, in fact I did not see any police because they knew this would be a good crowd, the vendors were many and sold really rare stuff, I found a Khamsin photo of the Paris show 74 and for drivers and teams the organizers arranged dozens of WWII Jeeps who drove us from campground to paddock and back when needed: that was a very nice touch!

I did paper photos, not digital and will only get them back tuesday morning so will post them then. I have a ton of emails ot catch up but just heard from a Belgian who has two, a US car and AM120404 the car that was at Auto salon Stich in Vienna.

    Back with more soon,

    best regards,

    Marc

Yep - good to see Marc and talk a lot of Maserati with him.

Here is #392, owned by Frits Harm, Chief of the Dutch Maserati Club.

Former owner of the car was Luigi Chilo from Italy.

Yep: that is not only the most driven Khamsin in the world (I think) but an extremely nice one.

Yes it was great to talk Maser and we also spoke Porsche 917 but don't tell anyone:)

    Goddag Magnus!

Very nice car! Do you know at which dealership the photos were taken?$

It has the tag (number plate) bracket they use in Switzerland but that is neither the Geneva nor the Foitek Zurich dealership, it seems like a huge showroom, perhaps it is in one of the top German dealers?

On another note I exchanged emails with the man in Belogium I mentioned a couple of posts ago who has two Khamsins and he wrote that he has a friend living nearby ho also has two and that there is a fifth in the same area!

More info as soon as I get it.

    Best regards,

    Marc

I have, unfortunately, things far more important than cars going on in my family right now but here is a first (paper not digital) photo of Le Mans Classic 10 days ago.
It shows four Khamsin owners, past or present from left to right: Walter Baumer, Fritz Harms, owner of AM120392 visible just behind, Jean Pierre Lhomer, owner of the one off Khamsin spyder and yours truly.
More photos when I have a minute.

    Best regards,

    Marc

I just thought I would bring this to your attention. I may not have been parked in the centre of the circuit but I did manage to get my Khamsin to Le Mans from Winchester in the UK. Recently registered, chassis 0106. Maybe we could get together next time around!

    Kindest regards

    Hello Kim and welcome!

Sorry to be low to responf but I have had a lot on my plate with family matters and work.

I was a bit disappointed to see just one Khamsin at Le Mans Classic, (that of Mister Fritz Harms who runs the Dutch Maserati club, albeit the most driven one in the world and a very fine example as I said before and will say again) so I am happy to know that there was another: yours!

It is intriguing to know that apparently neither Walter nor I had any data on your car: the database -which is non commercial and strictly intended to preserve and enhance the appreciation of Khamsins- is now getting to 275 cars out of 430 so that is very satisfying!

Could you please let us know, either by posting here or by emailing me at [email protected] all you know about the history of AM120106?
-First owner, original colors, chain of ownership, major work done on it in the past and recently (for guidance on what info is desired please see registration page in my www.maseratikhamsinregistry.com website, there is absolutely no cost or obligation of any kind).

That would be very much appreciated.

Do you know that you can get the build sheets from the factory for your car?

Signor Ermanno Cozza, who has been there for over 56 years provides it for free.

Looking forward to hearing from you, congratulations on your acquisition and yes I am thinking of a European Khamsin reunion next spring in a central European location (Dijon or Geneva) convenient to many K owners.

For the US I think it is debatable whehter one nationwide event or one per coast is best: these are not million Dollar cars and some owners would not put up with a cross north America trip.

    Best regards,

    Marc Sonnery

On another topic Le Mans Classic was fantastic in terms of memorabilia available for purchase in the mini Retromobile at the top of the paddock by the Dunlop curve, miles better than Monterey (except Tony Springers memorabilia event which I have not yet experienced and am sure is fantastic).

I found lots I wanted but could not afford however I did find this Khamsin photo from the Paris show 1974. I think it is Paree 74 anyway, if not a very opinionated German will soon say NEIN I ham whrong!:)

In any case it is a horrible photo and I get along with photoshop like a formerly wealthy husband with his ex wife's divorce attorney but here it is anyway....

    Annnnd...one other thing:

While there have been several 1/43 scale Khamsin models in recent years, the only tiny scale one was a horrible GREEN! plastic rendition (see

    http://www.maseratikhamsinregistry.com/models_2.html

    )

however this has, very recently indeed, changed with very nice 1/64 scale Khamsin models by Kyosho. These are for Japanese market release only however they are all over Ebay in black, hohum, silver hohum and....gold! like my ex baby AM120US1242 so of course I jumped on it and for a massive 16US$, or 10 Euros including postage a lovely model arrived from Asia: it is really well made, I can truly recommend it: here are some photos of an idenical gold one.

Of course I can't wait for a 1/18th scale version but who knows if it will ever happen?

    best regards,

Right, am slowly getting back to normal, to start with here are some more photos taken at Le Mans Classic of Khamsin AM120392, owned by mister Fritz Harms, president of the Dutch (which means Holland) Maserati club.

This car is particulalrly interesting for SEVERAL STRONG reasons: a very original late series Euro spec car that has had the life a Khamsin should, that any car should: many pampered miles by a connoisseur owner who has done everything right: if only there were many more like this: hats off to mister Harms.

Note the trunk cover roll, avaialble as an option to late series buyers after complaints from early buyers about not having "luggage privacy.

More to come this week as things have accumulated during the "events" I have been through.

    Best regards,
