Hello all, Here it is, enjoy! 1975 Maserati Khamsin | Video | Jay Lenos Garage | NBC best regards, Marc
Gents, I had my Khamsin started last week and all went well - few small problems. First question - my tacho (RPM gauge) is a bit unstable and the question is if this is "normal" or should be moving through the scale with no suddenly movements? Second question - The return / filing neck to the HLM which have the small plastic hoses returning from the system is leaking where it join the LHM tank. Anyone knows where I can have a new one sourced. The car runs fine - very short trip - no windscreen installed yet as its much easier to get access to electrical system behind the dashboard if needed. Kind regards John
Hi John Ist question The Tacho shouldn't jump around , two probable causes, the drive cable is sticky and winds up then releases, You can disconnect from the back of the tacho and remove the inner , lube it with gearbox oil and replace. Second it may be lack of use and free up with a bit more use. 2nd. Question the grommets are available but I have yet to find out where. The moulds are ment to be in South Africa, but owned by whom I am not sure. Some one might know. There are two return pipe sizes, which one is it. I got some second hand ones but they are outrageous in price even second hand. Regards Graeme
Nice video! Khamsins are finally getting some recognition. Someone please tell Doug that his steering wheel is installed backwards. Ivan
Sorry my mistake, Not the odometer that works fine! My Tacho - RPM counter which is controlled by the ignition signal! My leak is where the rubber enter the tank - rest is fine and no leaks! (picture attached) Image Unavailable, Please Login
Hello John... Attached is a picture of the Khamsin Filler Neck I recently purchased from MIE.. Very reasonably priced at about $47 (member price - before shipping). Hope this helps... Also, congratulations on getting the K up and running... Please post some more pictures and details... Mike Image Unavailable, Please Login
Very nice. That must have been a great tour. If you have any more photos of the rally please post them. If you can drive to your famous ancient ruins, (Persepolis?), take some photos of your car with those as a backdrop and post them here. Or maybe with Isfahan or some other famous Persian place as a backdrop? Hopefully one day it will be easier for Americans to visit your part of the world.
John, Congratulations on reaching this milestone! Filler neck: I got mine from Citroen Andre in the Netherlands, 35 Euros. What I didn't get is the insert that locks it in place, and I have no idea what the original looks like, but it should be a slightly flanged tube with a provision that makes it possible to retract it. I'd much appreciate a photo of this insert, so I can install my new filler-neck too. Best, Jack.
Hello Jack/John... I don't think there is supposed to be an insert that locks it into place. The current filler neck on my car doesn't have anything like that. In fact the filler neck (both old and new) is flanged at the bottom. Once pushed into the can you would be able to rotate it, but not get it out very easily. The current one (old one) comes out fairly easy when I attempt to lift the cap off. This is why I am replacing it. Chances are it is the original one... Mike
Hi Carmine, Here some more Pictures, unfortunately not from Isfahan nor Persopolis. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
my very late car LHD # 404 has all the stuff and the bag is for storing a dirty wheel in the trunk after you blew a tyre and not to put over the spare in the front. There is the foam insert to secure an undisturbed airflow. regards Rolf
Hi Marc I was interested to see what Jay would have to say, I would sum it up as impressed but reserved, Great have the car and such an un touched car in the video. Regards Graeme
Rolf, Could you post a photo? If you can't post it here, you could also post to [email protected] It'd be much appreciated! Best, Jack.
Rolf... Per Jack, please post photos here... I think a lot of use would be interested in seeing them... Mike
Hi all, It is wonderful that this could actually take place, I had started hoping to make it happen well before I thought of Jay Leno as the right person for the book foreword and he was just so welcoming and open minded. Such a video is a major tool to get the Khamsin some much deserved exposure and help it be understood by a much wider public which ultimately is what Jay reaches with his show. What matters is that a previously very unfairly forgotten car is now less so! Best regards, Marc
Well done, nice positive reaction to the car, good for all of us. Pity that no mention was made of the heritage of the engine, and that it in fact is a mid-engined car. Also no mention of production numbers to underline its' rarity. Nice plug for the book! Best, Jack.
Hi Jack and Graeme, You have to see this from the perspective of the non specialist general public to whom he caters in his webshow. It is not aimed primarily at specialists. The public has never heard of this car so know that by definition it is rare and by his comments -including Maserati heritage when describing the engine- anyone realises that this is a very special macchina. Many of those among you who own Khamsins or know them well weren't going to learn anything from this video but I can guarantee that his comments such as the car not beating up its driver, the fact that you could comfortably drive it hundreds of miles, was one of the very fastest cars of its day will generate a ot of attention from new potential buyers and I am really happy it could take place with this car (devoid of US bumpers thank God!) because fly yellow may not be discrete but it magnifies the Khamsin's lines. Actually I would love a fly yellow one even though light gold like the prototype is my preferred color for it. So a big bonus for our favorite car, I suggest you show it to those of your friends who are blindly -dare I say mindlessly;-)- devoted to other brands! Best regards, Marc
Took my passenger-side valve-covers off this afternoon, somehow hoping that the presence of silicone indicated that they had been adjusted at some point. Probably only to remedy oil-leaks? Who thought of the reset washers under the domed nuts? They are a pain. The valves are all tight, and I mean tight, as in about half what the spec is. So all 4 cams will have to come off, as I have no illusions about the other bank. Some here warned about taking the front nut off the cam, but does it really matter now? I haven't checked the timing of the cams yet, but I think I may just as well start from scratch? Best, Jack.
Hi Jack, I did my Ghibli and Khamsin and took the nuts off. You could check before if they are coincidentally onthe correct setting. BTW: These nuts can be damned tough to get lose! I needed to clamp them in a haevy vise and use an extra lever on the spanner to undo them, exciting experience! Success and regards from Shanghai, Bart
Hi All Does any one know the original Khamsin cylinderhead thickness, that is from the head face to the machined to[ where the camcovers seal? Graeme
