Hi Bal, How are you? Hope all is well. It has been a few years since the Goodwood event. I have heard of Pleiades before from searching the internet and obviously McGraths. My view point regarding McGraths is that the Citroen hydraulic is not their core knowledge. I have found a classic Citroen specialist whom core competence is the hydraulic system. I am going to take the car to them for them to have a look at the overall heath of the system. If I get a good feeling about them I will think about leaving the car and report back....... Cheers, Richard
Hi Jack, Thanks for your reply. Currently there is nothing wrong with the car, there are a few "seeps" from joints I guess that I need to get sorted, but not like it floods the garage floor or anything bad, even when running. Also it has now only covered 23K miles from new (documented). I think you are correct in that the system is simple, easy and reliable, I think it is more of the case that I do not currently understand the system in its detail and that worries me. I already know to only use quality LHM fluid. I don't really know why anyone would use anything else. Cheers, Richard
Thanks for the reply. That picture was taken as a real quick snap on my phone before I took it to the Auto Italia Italian car day at Brooklands, Weybridge a little while ago. I intend to learn the system in-depth for my interest. Thanks. Cheers, Richard
I suggest you find a reference to the self test procedures, perhaps in this thread?, with regard to turning the engine off after a pump cycling on and then counting how many operations of the brakes and accessories are possible.
Hey Richard, Yes all good, and it has been a few years since we last met. I have some schematics of the LHM system particular to the Khamsin application which I can dig out for you if you're interested. It is a straightforward system and I've had a go at taking out various bits for the seals to be replaced by the specialists. Some involved strange upside down positions in the drivers footwell in a very cramped garage where you can't open the car doors. and of course you can't start it up after the bits are removed. Some good information on the help pages on Enricos Maserati site such as the tests suggested by Bob. Shout out if you need any help. Bal

Hi All As we all know this year was the 100 Year Celibration of Bertone. Motorclassica Is having a display of Major car designs from Bertone and yours truly has been approached to put my car in the display. Motorclassica - The Australian International Concours d'Elegance & Classic Motor Show Royal Exhibition Building, Carlton Gardens, Melbourne, Australia 21 - 23 October 2011 Cheers Graeme
Graeme, That's a nice recognition of all your hard work. Make sure your insurance covers it, enjoy! Best, Jack.
Hi Jack Interesting Question, my insurance covers all the activities except track days. However from you question in other parts of the world it may not. I am happy to have my locked in a secquire building and have security guards monitor the building at night, and besides its cheap parking for four days!! Cheers Graeme
Hi All Has this article been discussed? http://www.classicdriver.com/en/article/autos/maserati-khamsin-love-child-french-italian-affair Cheers graeme
Hi all, Yes it has Graeme. That is actually a very mediocre article written back in 2000 for Classic Cars, the UK magazine in which she test drove AM120.381, then part of Maserati UK's press fleet. The photos of the red K shown here are AM120.040 for sale by a German dealer. Like so many journalists who have tried Khamsins that lady did not drive it long enough and thus failed to understand what makes it so special. Classic Driver used to be a decent website, I wrote for them once or twice but lately they have been publishing below par articles -a 13 year old one in this case- which are sooo short that they look like telegrams, sad. Best regards, Marc
Another complete nonsense-article written by someone who doesn't understand and obviously didn't drive the car properly. It appears that everybody thinks they can write about classics these days. An even crappier article appeared in Rigis, the newsletter of the SA Ferrari/Maserati importer. The car in the photos appears very nice though, with a relatively modest asking-price. I'm waiting for my carb kits and head gasket, hope I can make vroooom soon. Best, Jack.
Hi All This pooped up on the "Bring a trailer" webiste Classic Car Value ? Value Your Car | Hagerty Classic Car Value Guide Makes for interesting valaution reading. On the Classic Driver article and others I agree totally. As time goes on the exposure to some of the more interesting cars buy younger jurnalist will get to a point where if it has any thing wichisnt with in the "norm" AUTO ABS PSA Collision avidance combined with self steer they will have no idea. In some way my Dads 1926 Oldsmobile "ute" will require a whole new set of skils for me to drive, but atleast I care, and have respect for it, younger journalist get jobs in the periferal side of writting and in somecase motoring is one. they car write and cant drive and we finish up with a lots of Clarksons and not many Monkey's ( Chris Smith) LJK Setright (10 August 1931 7 September 2005) a Very respected jurnalist wrote two articles about the Khamsin, in one he said that it its what a supercar should be and do every thing well and the Khamsin, the other he said Maserati tried to hard with the Khamsin. The comments were after he spent quite some time with the car. Cheers Graeme
I had call this week from the owner of 120-421 in Melbourne. He was trying to track down the original coour code and then an available equivilent. The colour is Celeste Chiaro 106 A20 I located this on the car nut web site. http://www.thecarnut.com/Manuals/Paint/Paint-chips.pdf Any one else chased this colour? and what did you find? Regards Graeme
Hi, I have just completed a bare metal respray in this colour and got the correct information from PPG. I think in this case Ivan is showing an incorrect code but I will recheck when I return back to Melbourne tomorrow. I found 2 codes on the web and one of these referred to a 1960's earlier Maserati colour Julian
Hi Graeme, You'll find that all major paint-manufacturers will come up with a formulation, and most shops will also have swatches to match. Apart from the correct color and the size of the metallic flakes, another thing is of importance: I assume that the owner of 421 is having his car painted rather than doing it himself? Let the shop use the supplier that he normally works with. Modern paints are systematic, i.e. the preparation like primers etc are formulated to receive a top coat of the same make for best results. Look for a shop that uses a quality product (Glasurit, RM, PPG, Sikkens) Most bigger shops have their own mixing bank from where they can readilly mix the right color, and their painters will know what they are spraying and how it behaves. Best, Jack.
Hi Graeme, I had PPG check the two codes I found on line for Chiaro Celeste. There was a 106 A20 and a 106 A32. PPG told me the first code was from a much earlier car. I had the later one made up and the colour looks very much like the traces left from the original build of the car which is still evident in the engine bay under the underseal. Hi All, On Tuesday my car is going to be reviewed, photographed and driven by Classic and Sportscar magazine. It appeared in the April 2001 edition previously, prior to my ownership. I am meeting at a local wine estate for the photo shoot. Does anyone have any pointers on what parts of the car to show particular interest to? I am asking this as I want the Khamsin and Citroen period Maserati's in general to be fully understood with regards to the incorporation of the LHM system, which I think is cool and makes everything easy. I'm off to detail it a bit now..........
Hi Julian Thats great thank you nice colour. The Khamsin is Melbourne so haveinga local will be very helpfull Best regards Graeme
