No. I have a couple cars that either came with a 215-70 or even larger! Yes 7"rims.

The way things are going I may end up wrapping massive amounts of electrical tape around the rims!

There's just nothing for these original rims. That's one reason people are looking at 16" & 17" rims. I like the looks of my original rims and would like to retain the speed rating. Attempting to drive them like they were go carts not so much. They're GT cars.

Speed ratings may be important for the insurance, and depending on where in the world you are may also be a legal requirement.

XWX's are correct, but their development stopped in the 70-ies, so you are driving around with old technology. It's the same for every tyre from the period. When I changed my 308 from (metric) Michelins to modern 16" it transformed the car in all dynamic aspects. This can't be denied, it is really a vast improvement to change to modern rubber.

Like Bob though, I like the original look with the big sidewalls, and find it somewhat strange that not more tyres in the correct spec are available, there are many cars using them. Michelin must be smiling.

It might be doable to produce a batch of Starburst-rims in 16", there are a good few Maserati's using this style, and their owners are all faced with the same problem.

    Best,

    Jack.

I could help with the CAD design. I think the economics might favour a wheel made outside Australia though. One Ghibli is alleged to be on 17" starbursts already and looks magnificent. I like the look of 16 " but are they going the way of the 15" tyres shortly anyway?

Compomotive make the replica wheels for the Khamsin in 15" and in limited batches.
I have equired about other wheels in special sizes and its posible but they are expensive.
It could be done with a group buy.

    Regards

The workshop where my car is have moulds to manufacture high quality bumpers both front and rear. My front bumper was re-made when the car was painted due to some sort of damage.
If anyone is interested, pm me and I'll give you the details. As I understand the pricing is reasonable.

one of the Merak guys had got some quotes for tooling a wheel in the UK and the costs were very competitive compared to what I am used to. It would require a group buy/ commitment to make it worth tooling up though. I could scale up the existing design and ensure the PCD / chrome trims would still fit and get quotes if you like. I personally need a knock off variant!!

    to Quote from the thread

"rims made based on the Starburst pattern but at 17"rim diameter! One can argue if the whole is not a little too much "Corvettied". The rims were made out of Duraluminum billets and the job was certainly very nicely done!"

Wow the cost of the billets alone would sort the Spanish national debt!!
These do not look at all out of place!! I a purist but also a realist. 8" or even 9" please in 2 piece for cost reasons

Shock horror call an exorcist...actually it made me laugh and thankfully apart of the paintjob the ridiculous add ons should be easy to remove, much less compromised than the Russian "Espadabomination".

Sounds like he might have a parts car with the K, anybody been in touch with him or have his contact info? Thanks in advance.

    best regards,

    Marc

Today I got the first test drive of my new khamsin! I can happily report that I drove the same distance as the car has travelled since 2006! 100km!
I'm very happy that the engine worked as smoothly as you could possibly expect. No rattles, no vibrations, no squeaks, perfect water temp, perfect oil temp, perfect oil pressure. What a relief! The most expensive part is ok!
With the new stainless steel exhaust the sound was absolutely fantastic! When driving slowly it was quiet, but at 5000rpm it sounds like an offshore racing boat! Insane!
The slush box is a bit lazy and I believe that it need some servicing. Most likely the oil and filter has not been changed since new. What surprised me was how quiet the car is at speed. At 120km/h, there was very little wind noise, the engine was quiet, all you could hear was some exhaust noise from behind. Sorry, not noise, music! Just stretching your right foot for a while and suddenly 200Km/h on the meter. Effortlessly you reach high speed.
A few things left to fix. The hydraulic piston erecting the lights is leaking. Does anyone know who could fix that? According to the workshop, it needs to be a specialist of these items. Several of the electrics are not working. Ie windows, several of the unmarked switches on the dash (don't know what they all are supposed to do) did not work, meaning nothing happened when pressing or pushing. These are minor fixes to be expected of a car not being used for long.
From here on the afternoon kept improving! Normally on a Saturday, several classic Maserati enthusiasts gather at this particular workshop to chat etc. I took several of these guys for a ride and they all loved it! I got two offers on the car! Sorry, not for sale!
Jan F came with his fantastic black Sebring II. You can see pictures of it in the Sebring thread. Of course he wanted a ride. Then I had a chance to drive his Sebring. First time for me in a straight six classic Maserati. Great car! Then he wanted to test my QP-1 so we went home to my place to pick it up for comparison. The conclusion is that the Sebring looks and feels just like the little brother of the QP-1. Same dash, same look from the drivers position, but a bit lighter in response and a bit smaller in size.
All in all this afternoon is one to remember, it's not everyday that you have the chance to drive 3 classic Maseratis the same day!

    Congratulations
Great to see another Khamsin doing what they do best.

where are the head light actuator leaking? the shaft or the input lines?

As for the Auto an interesting consideration there was a later version of the that bok with a 4 speed with an an overdrive top gear.

    Cheers

Great autumn weather made driving a pleasure. It takes a little while to get to know a car like this.
I'm pretty sure there is something wrong with the rear left suspension. It's very stiff and doesn't absorb the bumps as it should. I read somewhere that the suspension can seize if the car is not used for long. Any chance of this loosening up with more driving? Or do i have to strip the whole suspension and put in new bushes?

    Fredric,

Sounds like you're having a good time out there!

The rear suspension has twin coil-overs on each wheel. These have different springs for the fronts and rears. If one side is considerably harder than the other my firs suspicion would be that they were swapped around. The fronts have a yellow A painted on the top surface.
If not that, remove the coil-overs and check the un-loaded free movement of the suspension and have the shocks tested.
    Bushes may have dry-rotted too.

Your car looks wonderful, love the colour.

    Best,

    Jack.

My mechanic believes that the Khamsin tie rod end is the same as some citroen cars. Does anyone know if this is correct, and of course which car?

    Thanks for your help!

    Fredric,

The rack is the same as Citroen SM, but I cannot confirm if the tie-rod ends are as well.

Hi Jack,I am sorry but the rack is not the same as the SM. The geometry is different but the valve unit and seals are interchangeable.
The tie rod ends are relatively standard, any well sorted (classic) car parts store should be able to supply these. Just watch out with right and left hand threading!

    Ciao,

    Bart

I've always liked that color on that car. There was a US big bumpers Khamsin running around the Stockton Lodi California area many moons ago when I was driving my Bora (same color) there on a regular basis.
