Re-shaping the foam isn't that difficult, but just make sure that it is done with a closed-cell foam, which doesn't absorb fluids like a normal foam does.

It looks like the same sort of bag they used ion the full sized spare for the Bora, which BTW has an awful location for a spare as it cooks over all that exhaust plumbing..

My friend want to sell his 1975 Khasmin AM*120*186* for a reasonable price. The car has automatic transmission. 40500km from new. He owns it since 1992 and it was repainted 2 years ago in original colour. blue metallic/ blue leather. Location is south spain.

If anyone is interested, let me know.

Khamsin 1160 ( bought from Ivan Ruiz in 2010 ): restoration is in progress, see pictures.
all parts are reworked now
after complete removing of all old paint and a new front end, the body is in the paint shop now.
I need to buy complete exhaust system; any advise ?

Achim welcome and congratulations.

It is very nice and rewarding to see you save this car, I knew of it for years and it needed a lot of work. It was if I remember correctly near Chicago and the owner, a nice enough chap hoped to restore it but it obviously was not going to happen...it took a long time for him to realize he would not be able to but when I contacted him in the early months of 2010 suddenly he was willing, the time was ripe! So I informed Ivan, subsequent to which he bought it and soon after that sold it to you.

You will find good help here be it for historical or technical matters, best of luck with the rest of the work, here are some photos from 2009-2010 the way it was: you have come a long way after it crossed the Atlantic! the original color was white.

the "Blinkers" are same like late Alfa Romeo Berlina.
I also hat US orange colour and bought these reproductions.

Sorry about that... You're correct, it certainly looks original... I went out to take another
look at mine, and sure enough they appear identical.. I think what confused me was it
looked so clean!!! I also forgot there was a 'hole' in the oil tank underneath where
the LHM tank sits.. Of course, I've never had a reason to remove the LHM tank.. But,
I checked the parts manual, and sure enough, it is clearly illustrated! So please ignore
my confusion...

Achim: Please keep the pictures coming and keep us posted on your progress!

Hi All,

Can any one offer any recommendations on cam cover gaskets? My engine has the lower ones on each side leaking again and I've used MIE and then a set from McGraths. The latter lasted well on the trip to K 40 only to start weeping late last year.

I will have the faces of the covers checked out before these are done again, but any sage advice would be appreciated.

Hi Bal,

i even use my cam cover gaskets multiple times. The trick is to clean all surfaces well, also those of the gasket. Put a little (black) silicone gasket sealer on the gasket and thighten the cover nuts cross wise starting from the middle. Do not thighten the nuts with too much torque this will make the covers expand in the width. I use tiny small rubber O-rings to seal ghe nuts and studs to avoid them from "sweating".

Apart from the gaskets and studs, also have a good look at the half-moon seals. These get hard and shrink. Some sealant works well there, or just renew. Another solution is to re-make them in aluminium and seal in place.

A word of caution on the use of silicone: Use it SPARINGLY, and make sure that silicone that gets pressed out of joints does not get expelled to the inside. The silicone makes worms that find their way everywhere in the engine, they block oil-intake screens, demolish pumps and ultimately your precious engine. Less is more in this instance!

No to silicone. You don't want beads of that stuff inside you engine.
I wish someone would make some nice new technology cam gaskets. PLEASE!

I've never been able to keep everything completely leak free for ever but I've also not had huge problems.

Pay attention to what Bart says about clean and smooth sealing surfaces and not over torquing them or unevenly. Having the plug wire holders and other items attached in this manner is not a very good design IMHO as over time it tends to loosen things up. Sometimes the valve covers are warped so make sure you check that. The recesses for the acorn nuts can also be poorly machined making an effective seal there difficult so fix that too.

The valve covers on my V12 Lamborghini do not leak at all. Gary Bobileff used some kind of white sealer on those but I've not had them off so I'm unfamiliar with the gaskets used as yet.

I've used Dow Corning 111 on the Maserati valve cover gaskets and it has been effective but not perfect. It's easy to clean up should you need to remove a cover too. But all your sealing surfaces have to be perfect. It won't cover for bad machine work.

The first guy to work on my Bora right after I purchased it used silicone all over these gaskets and what a mess that was. It didn't stick very well to the gaskets because of the graphite.

Somebody make some modern and effective gaskets PLEASE!
