Hello Alex: danke schon for your kind words. Well my records show it as the last 1974 Euro spec car produced, certainly not a 1972 as only one or two protoypes were built that far back, however I am sending you a PM so you can contact Signor Ermanno Cozza at the factory which will help you get hold of the exact details. So have you enjoyed the roads from Santa Barbara up near Ojai? There is a great moutain pass road that heads north from there with little traffic and "surveillance" best regards, Marc
Where the chassis numbers sequential? (Unlike the Ghibli as an example) To answer your question, no, not entirely. As Cozza explained to me during the first interview I did of him in July 2005, they would have body shells ready but if they needed a particular color they might take a body shell that was fifth in line so the the numbering was mostly sequential but not entirely this expains why the last Khamsin ever made was AM120439 and NOT AM120445. 445 even though it has a higher chassis number, was completed before 439. best regards, Marc
Yes, my father from Jamiaca and my mother from Japan, I acquired a lot of their many talents and am rather good looking! That said, I've been in hospitals but but that dosent make me a doctor now does it?! RM
No but you should try golf: Tiger Woods has African American and Asian parents like you! Of course it can all backfire: on a good day I say I am inspired like a Frenchman and precisely orgsanized lik a Swede...but on a bad day I am rude like a Frenchman and brooding like a Swede Anyway on to the next Swedish Khamsin: AM120082, early car, no nose slats, a beautiful shade of green with tan, 5 speed. Arrived in Sweden in 1986. It has a near identical twin in Germany, shown recently in the Interantional meet photos of this summer. A very attractive car. Thanks again to Magnus for his help. And Jag XJS chrome mirrors??? Of course you just make out the REAL beauty of this thread behind it in YELLOW! ;>))
218 as mentioned by Magnus had Swiss tags for a while before moving to Sweden in 1984, Magnus just posted a black & white photo a few posts up: that picture was taken in Sweden by the way so the man travelled about a 1000 miles each way, mostly on German Autobahns: thats the spirit! AM120398 a very late car, silver, black, 5 speed, came to Sweden 1990, no photos. AM120US1134 came to Sweden in 1976, when I interviewed Ermanno Cozza in 2005 he confirmed that car, even though it was a US model Khamsin, was sold new directly to Sweden. As confirmed by Magnus it lived there for many years and was then sold to Holland. This si the only US model Khamsin that was sold new outside of North America, as such an oddball case. AM1201156, in Sweden we dont have other info. Will dig relentlessly
1222: was at Motorcar Gallery at some point in the 80s early nineties in black, tobacco interior and wild stripes (see photo) it then got painted in two tone and is probably the car posted in the mystery cars section of my website, owned by Oliver Kuttner and shown at Hershey one year: even though a few details are different -as one of the cars Swedish owners once pointed out to me- they are not major differences and out of the 280 or so cars I know about I have never heard of another 2 tone car, except red and balck, there has never ever been a report of another Khamsin painted like that. http://www.maseratikhamsinregistry.com/mysterycars.html It then crossed the Atlantic and got offered, in that two tone paint, by Coys auctioneers (see photo 2) at the Nurburgring auction in the summer of 1990. Coys call the two tone original, unless they know something we dont, that is nonsense. Will ask Cozza for color specs. Just before or after this, according to the data given to me by Walter, it was owned by a man in Aachen, Germany. It then went to Sweden. I was once shown photos of the car, still with US bumpers, with the two tone paint and white wall tires!!! Thank God it got converted to US bumpers and proper tires were fitted. It has changed hands within Sweden in recent years. best regards, Marc PS: Am driving AM120132 tomorrow in Lyon (west central France): photos soon! The 1156 was in the Swedish Maseraticlubs bulletin a few years ago.I will go and look for it.I saw the car in 1977 it came from Milano to Sweden that year.MI19209
The top color looks black as opposed to blue!....hummm I know the car photographed at Hershey had what looks like a dark interior as opposed to red (and the pumpkin interior it had when in Ft Lauderdale long ago but this....hum much head scratching... I will have to go through my notes: Kuttner once told me the chassis number of that blue and sliver car... Thanks Magnus...for getting me thoroughly confused but we will figure it out eventually. Look forward to 1156 when you find something.
AM120398 was in a swedish paper 15 years ago. I think it was Automobil. Marc are you done with the swedish Khamsins? us1230? And then we have the od ones 50012 and one PCA714 owned by Mats Linden in Stockholm.I bought my Indy from him in 1993. Best regards, Magnus
Hello Magnus: thanks for the photos of 1156: strange wheels and also note the hood where the Maserati emblem should be there is what looks like a trident sticker. Yes: 1230 we have shown before: the fly yellow project completely dismantled. 398: it would be great to find that article in "Automobil". I had a great rapport with Thord Skoldekrans who was the previous editor, was their US correspondent for a few years. Then they got bought, he got fired overnight and while the new editor was perfectly courteous the 2 or 3 times I called I could get nowhere...never mind. If you can find out which issue it was I will galdy pay for it: I have dpozens of Khamsin test drives in magazines from various countries but not one in a Swedis magazine. The other strange chassis numbers you mention are simply people who read the wrong numbers under the hood: happens all the time and not just for Khamsins: if you look in Sports Car Market magazine's website they do the same once in a while too! thanks again, best regards, Marc
Drove in it Lyon, east central France at a retromobile tpye event, on the local urban roads. Will post pictures in a few days: it was raining so did not get to push very hard, actually I found out that older dry Michelins a wet surface and pushing on the right pedal will make the back end step out yoohoo! I got everybody's attention for a moment It was a very nice car actually. Full report with the photos: they are old fashioned paper photos unfortunately hence the delay. best regards, Marc
A picture of a 1974 Swiss Khamsin taken during this weekend . Ciao Andrea Image Unavailable, Please Login
Does anyone know of a nice Khamsin for sale in the U.S.? I prefer non-red and definitely a 5-speed not an automatic. Thanks, Bob
-Andrea: thank you for the photo. Silver in Zurich: I can only think it is AM120100, formerly the personal car of the Limacher's, the garage by the same name near Luzern. It did have black interior but not those mirors though. The car was sold to a great enthusiast from Zurich who used to own a fantastic Ghibli spyder. Will have to ask him if it is his car. Zurich is one of the most moneyed cities in the world so there could well be more Khamsins we don't know about. I know about 4 there. At Geneva Classics last month I met Koni Lutziger, a long time classic car dealer from that area. I had visited his place in 1982: he then had the cars under his huge chalet and between a Bizzarini 2 liter, Can Am cars, a Miura and what not thee had been a light blue Khamsin with...a big metal trident (like those that go in the radiator grille of a Ghibli) fitted on the hood instead of the normal oval badge! -Bob "carguy246" there is no 5 speed advertised in the US right now but I found out ladt night that one will be available very soon: I asked for full info asap. As I mentioned here many posts ago, of the 100 US 5 speed Khamsins made about a third have gone to Europe and counting cars no longer in use that is a gene pool of about 50: one per state...and when one becomes avaialble European buyers perk up because prices remain much lower than in Europe: AM120132 that I drove yesterdays has a 75000 Euro asking price, whereas in the US I thought I did great when I sold my baby for 51000$ and the car that will soon be available should be in the 60's$...but I can't identify it yet. What I can say is it has had well over 20000$ of work done! best regards, Marc
Well I spoke too fast...below are photos of K 100 with early nose i.e. no air vent slats: obviously not the same car...hum...we found another one! Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
This one is lsited on Enrico's website as a prototype. http://www.maserati-alfieri.co.uk/enthusiast156/gert-automoto-10a.jpg Bob S.
Hello Bob: yes saw that unfortunatley just one photo which reveals nothing other than a glimpse of the inner door panels being diferent. It is AM120004 the first car sold. It was advertised in Il Tridente summer 97 issue page 9 in a letter from a Dr Domenico Nicita of Arcireale, Italy saying he is selling it is first of the series was the Geneva show car 74, original condition 43000kms, photos show big grille on hood in sliver, not black. A Dutch gentleman who is a Khamsin enthusiast recently emailed me that he just missed buying 004 in Holland but that he knows where it is so I will ask him to put me in touch with the owner. http://www.maserati-indy.co.uk/alfieri00a.htm If you look in the general Khamsin history in Enrico's website (hope lnk above works) there are differences obviously: the interior is not the final version and the nose and hood and rear arch fake vents are painted silver. I will get the details of this car from mister Cozza at the factory. On another matter the two finest brochures are now available on Ebay: I have nothing to do with the sellers but thought if some of you are brochure collectors you might be interested: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Maserati-Khamsin-Brochure_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trkparmsZ72Q3a1205Q7c66Q3a2Q7c65Q3a12Q7c39Q3a1Q7c240Q3a1318QQ_trksidZp3286Q2ec0Q2em14QQhashZitem150308918336QQitemZ150308918336QQptZMotorsQ5fManualsQ5fLiterature This one is a work of art: a beautiful object, not for engineers but for those who appreciate such a fine creation. The castle is Castelfranco about 15 miles south of Modena, I found the original photos of the shoot, done by Zagari, thanks to mister Cozza. One day I will go there with a Khamsin to pay tribute to that shoot. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Maserati-Khamsin-Brochure_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trkparmsZ72Q3a1205Q7c66Q3a2Q7c65Q3a12Q7c39Q3a1Q7c240Q3a1318QQ_trksidZp3286Q2ec0Q2em14QQhashZitem150308916787QQitemZ150308916787QQptZMotorsQ5fManualsQ5fLiterature This one is extremely rare, it only comes up for sale once in a looooong while and since I already have one I thought I'd let you know! best regards, Marc
Have begun going through my photos of cars in Paris as a teenager in the early 1980's here is an interesting and accidental superposition when I tried to take one photo too many with my instamatic and the last shot got double exposure...we discussed this car many weeks ago, Walter theorized it could well be AM120156 which made sense. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Actually triple exposure if you look carefully! Here are a couple of photos of 156 (gor sure in this case) kindly provided to me by Max Girardo when he worked for Brooks who auctioned it at the Nurburgring. Khamsin AM120156 Brooks auction Nurburgring 5th August 2000 Red biscuit 5 speed Fewer than 2000 miles Was on British papers Said to have been restored in mid 90s in England and in Holland Strange outside mirro on left door Missing grille in catalog photos Body paint on lower rear shock absorbers Otherwise looks very good.
