Hi Marc, I had mistaken it for 1222 as well; it must be a different car, but I could not find any other match.
If you get answer from Oliver Kuttner, let us know.

    Regards, Roger

    -Hi Roger,
I found several huge emails by Oliver Kuttner in my mailbox this morning with tons of info on various cars, he has an amazing memory, wonderful:)!

Will extract what concerns this car and post it later.

    -Hi Greg in Oz:

Yes 435 is a high RHD chassis number, 445 was the highest but the very last built of all K's, be it LHD, RHD or US, was AM120-439 which is in South Africa. 445 is now owned by Simon Draper in the UK, the publisher of Palawan books, a true connoisseur.

Regarding Khamsin interiors.. Attached is a photo of my driver side door card!
I am in the process of evaluating my interior and decided to finally post this question.
On the door card you will note three access points, two with a slot and one with a knob.
My thinking on this is that one should be for the emergency crank to allow the window to
be rolled manually should the electric window fail. Another would probably be for a power side
mirror. I have no idea about the 3rd one (slot) by the door grab handle. Any ideas?

Further, there doesn't seem to be anything behind any of these access points. The knob rotates
but that's it, nothing there. I never noticed a mechanism to allow the door window to be rolled
down manually. The driver mirror has wires in it, but no controller (or it was removed at some
time). And the third (by the grab handle) no idea?

It's a 1975 Khamsin.. What do others have on their cars? Pictures of the door card and what's
behind it would be especially appreciated. Did K's come with power side mirrors?

I’ve seem power mirrors on many Ks. Usually just for the passenger side.

There is an access to the manual window operation and another for the power mirror toggle switch. I think the knob on your door card is aftermarket and I have never seen the slotted access point by the grab handle.

As I have been on the subject of Khamsin interiors lately, I found this document in some Khamsin technical
information I have! I am posting it here as it might be of benefit to other K owners!

Thank you very much for the mention Mark!

The white car is #270 of Alberto C. from Modena which took part in KHAMSIN QUARANTA in 2012 in Burgundy, photo 1. It is one of 3 Khamsins curently registered in Modena though the other cars are in the Panini and Stanguellini museums.

For KHAMSIN CINQUANTA in 2023 a year ago he and his wife were on the way to Divonne les Bains near Geneva where the event took place when the headgasket went half way there near Turin. So they went back to Modena on a flatbed and Alberto, alone since his wife was exhausted, took his bag and his Mercedes and drove up arriving in Divonne at 11PM. He then helped judges Peter Straub and Fabio Collina judge the cars and during the awards I gave him the bad luck award:). Glad to see it is roaring again.

His car was used numerous times by Maserati Classiche at events such as Auto Moto d'Epoca in Padova and Milano Auto Classica on their stand, photo 2.

Before Alberto bought it I had a ride with the prior owner Davide Baschieri east of Modena in 2007.

The silver car is #340 which was owned for decades by Gippo Salvetti a big Alfa collector in northern Italy, he was one of the very first owners in touch when I started the Registry 20 years ago, photo 3. He sold it a couple of years ago and it was the Khamsin present in January when Marcello Gandini was honored in Turin months before he passed, photo 4.

I thought you would know them Marc. I did wonder if the silver car was the one at the Gandini event, but I had too little time to check the thread. Nice to see them out and about.

-Thanks for the heads up Mark,

I had not had time to keep abreast of this.

435 is the Rhodesia car, Imported from the UK, where it was originally sold, into South Africa 23-09-1984, then imported into Zimbabwe 1994.

I started talking with its then owner Jack many years ago, it was of course a challenge for him to deal with such a car there. He has posted here in the past he might chime in.
It arrived in the UK in the winter of 2018-2019.

Here photos of it in Africa back then.

-Joe, yes the UK market is weaker than the EU one has been for a few years now. For a while during the peak 2015 bubble it was the contrary as RHD cars are much rarer.

Perhaps someone can explain this to me:

"this is a Khamsin about which you needn’t worry it’s going to dissolve around you. ”

What is meant by this? Is it a positive thing or is he indicating something negative... I have never
    heard this saying before...

Hi Mike, you are an engineer the writer was waxing lyrical, very different ways of expressing oneself: a mathematician vs a poetry writer.
He means in a silly way that the car is not rusty, will not fall apart because it was in a very dry climate in Africa. It is an idiotic way to put it
because he implies rust is terrible with them which scares people away when in fact it is his job to get cars sold. It is not in dry climates but yes in England any car of that era exposed to British weather suffers (cars never dry for six months of the year, I lived there 86-89 I saw it).

I thought the text was written quite poorly, in particular the general model presentation was very poor. I have written a bunch of Khamsin presentations for Bonhams (the actual brick and mortar auctions), done properly I would hope, I can never understand why they just don;t stick to that.

The worst was when Christie's sold the Khamsin Spyder in a Paris auction at Retromobile 2007: the catalog text said "Hydraulic...suspension."

    I am not joking.

That employee got fired not long after as it was one of many screw ups by him.

I know this has been discussed before (numerous times), but it doesn't hurt to bring the topic up again...

Topic: Khamsin Tires - Size 215/70R15...

There seems to be a plethora of possibilities that I don't recall seeing a couple of years ago.. Checking the TireRack and
Longstone Tyre sites, there are all kinds of tires available varying in cost.. I noted tires from Michelin, Pirelli, Avon, Vredestein,
BF Goodrich, and a couple of others...

What is the consensus here - if the car is for show, probably the Michelin or Pirelli may be the best choices. If the car will be
driven perhaps the Vredestein or even the BF Goodrich would be ok given the price point for the usage! Any thoughts????

Simple go with XWX, That takes care of the Concours side of it. And truth be told no one is really going to push these cars hard for extended periods of time yet alone track them. More than likely they’ll be used on a tour with spirited driving. The original Michelin XWX are more than capable of handling that.

    Hi Roger,

353 was the car of Dilip Sen in Oz, it would have had to be color changed and fitted with a different mirror....mirror locations are the same though so possible but not sure. I am working on updating my notes so will be in touch with my contacts down under among others.
He had modified his headlights; they were raised electrically.

The funny thing is the KGB number plate; there is already a well known UK car with a KGB plate: AM120391 owned by our friend Richard who drove it to KHAMSIN CINQUANTA last year.

A lot of activity in Germany in the past few months:

380 was sold from Norway to an architect in Stutgart, 378 was sold by one Munich resident to another and repainted from dark blue to its correct luci del Bosco.
144 was bought in Tuscany by an enthusiast, also from Munich, who has had the engine redone. I arranged for both of these owners to meet. Hopefully they will send photos of their cars coming together.
Just recently 056 in Germany which had been displayed at Techno Classica in Germany this spring was sold by its architect owner sight unseen to...a Swiss architect. Funnily enough he beat his best friend to the purchase of the car...they had both approached the seller at the same time without telling each other and you'll never guess what that man;s profession is;-) Thanks to Mr Z for informing me about this.

Sense a pattern? Yes indeed, a lot of architects love Khamsins as do and did several famous car designers such as the late Oliver Winterbottom of TVR fame, Jean Pierre Ploue head of design of Stellantis, Pierre Castinel, successively of of Renault, Peugeot (in Shanghai!) and later Tata. The latter two have both owned one each. A few weeks ago I spoke with young Belgian rising star Louis de Fabribeckers who has designed a number of one off cars for Touring such as the Sciàdipersia Coupé.

He was left speechless when he first saw a Khamsin in photos and later even more when he saw one in person.

Years later it was his turn to leave me speechless. In May of this year when he was presenting one of his one offs at the Bonhams Monaco Historic GP auction speaking on the podium he mentioned the Khamsin design as an inspiration!

I harpooned him immediately after his speech we traded business cards and had a great conversation some time later.

Always good to see that those with the most educated eye appreciate K's-)

-On that note I can mention that there will be a Khamsin article by yours truly in the upcoming issue of Octane magazine, out in the UK at the end of this month.
It is specifically about the Khamsin prototype AM120-004, the world premiere 1972 Turin show car: I am very happy with how it came out, all nine pages of it, including a great photoshoot by the talented Dennis Noten.

This is an important milestone for the recognition of Khamsins because twenty years ago the Khamsin was so unknown, so obscure that no editor would have accepted an article specifically about the Khamsin prototype, in fact there were hardly any Khamsin articles at all, a situation which has changed very positively. Enjoy your reading:)!
