Hi Marc, Thx for the suggestion on the edges. My 1st priority in my scarce free time is to get the mecanical things sorted out and all working fine. I wanna hear that rumbling sound at idling RPM again and then get that tail end out on the nice damp streets on a early sunday morning.... Cosmetics will come later, although when I have it out and get the parts in my hands I will do it in due course, like the engine. BTW: did you notice my extention cord real above the K-roof? Take care, Bart Image Unavailable, Please Login
Yes priorities in order! Starburst wheel cord reel what part # was that?! Bon courage with the work! MS
Hi All amounst all the learned gentlemen whom read this thread does any one know wht radio's were fitted to the Khamsin. This may vary depend on the country but was the Becker Mexico fitted and was there another more elaborate unit with the remote stalk? Regards Graeme
My build sheet refers to a Blaupunkt Goslar, which I found and had modified to accept an iPod lead. There is one for sale here http://www.oldautoradio.com/NWdetail.php?LL=0&id=7289&year=70&brand=PORSCHE, or you can find more about it here, http://www.radiomuseum.org/r/blaupunkt_goslar_cr_7633931763393.html. My car was built in early 1977 but sold in July 1977. It had one owner before me and came with a Philips radio installed, which I was told was standard practice for UK imports as the original Blaupunkt was viewed as being to "low market". Pascal
This Khamsin, owned by my friend Rick Russo, appears in the March issue of "Classic Motorsports" magazine. I photographed Rick and the car this morning at the monthly Atlanta "Caffeine & Octane": Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Hi Marc, Could not make it to the Retromobile, had to go to a friend's birthday party, 600km away... Happily found a Ghibli (you know: my other weakness) sitting in his house. The 3rd Ghibli delivered to a customer with a load of uncommon features from the "series" deliveries. Oops, sorry, this is the Khamsin site! (For anybody interested in the different Ghibli's: see the other thread on Mchat.) When we returned home I fitted the radiator and bits & things in the Khamsin. Filled it up with cooling liquid and put the "vino verde" in. turned the main switch, got the oil pressure up, put the plugs and the fuse in the fuel pump circuit and........started the engine: instant response; ran it till the fans came on. Everything works fine! Now I can start the fine tuning: ignition by strobe, carbs, fill the aircon, etc. etc. Have to be carefull tough, cannot have it ready before the salt is off the roads.... Jim: thanks for the photos #1266 looking good! Bart: you have the best excuse possible for not coming to Paris congrats! Yep keep it off the salt. Look forward to seeing it eventually. best regards, Marc
Hi Pascal Thank you for that insight. I believe ther was also a Blaupunkt unit fitted some with the control or a stalk This a Link to a Khamsin for sale fitted with the Blaupunkt Berlin Sterio. http://www.sportscardigest.com/greenwich-concours-auction-report-2010-bonhams/ My only thoughts are, I woulder if they were set for Australian frequencies? Regards Graeme Regards Graeme Image Unavailable, Please Login
This one on offer in Germany has the Berlin as well. This car is the perfect twin color wise to my former 1242 except it is automatic. Mine had the Berlin and microphone as well. http://suchen.mobile.de/fahrzeuge/showDetails.html?lang=de&id=136921658&pageNumber=1&scopeId=C&sortOption.sortBy=price.consumerGrossEuro&sortOption.sortOrder=ASCENDING&makeModelVariant1.makeId=16600&makeModelVariant1.modelDescription=khamsin&makeModelVariant1.searchInFreetext=false&makeModelVariant2.searchInFreetext=false&makeModelVariant3.searchInFreetext=false&vehicleCategory=Car&segment=Car&siteId=GERMANY&negativeFeatures=EXPORT&damageUnrepaired=NO_DAMAGE_UNREPAIRED&export=NO_EXPORT&customerIdsAsString=&tabNumber=1 If the link does not work go to www.mobile.de and you will find it. Wouldn't have a clue about frequencies Graeme. In Fort Lauderdale there used to be a cantankerous old man who was a genius for old car radios. I used to call him Mr personality Motorcar gallery would know if he is still active: walking encyclopedia on these things. best regards, MS
Hi Marc I found an aticle written in the Australian Sports Car world Magazine Dec 1975 issue. It shows what appears to be an Grundig Radio Cassette with the only really distingusing words are Sterio and Melody I will past the picture of it latter to see if anyone reconises it. The Is an online Radio Museum which will take ages to trawl through as it doesnt show a picture of the unit. Regards Graeme
Thanks for the scan of the article Graeme. very candidly I turned on my radio once because I sat waiting for an endless freight train to pass at a railroad crossing: only the musica from the V otto quattro nove interests me when driving a Monsterati my favorite stereo is the delete option. In other news: i have just helped a French friend of mine acquire 1230 a project in Sweden which its owner, a very nice guy with whom I spoke yesterday was unable to carry out for the last ten years, a period in which it was basically in limbo...until now. My friend Olivier may keep it or eventually restore it but if someone is interested and eager to tackle a project now contact me by private message. The car is very much complete barring the odd bits and pieces, all apart, engine already rebuilt to very high standards, missing only a windshield and dash (the gauges are all there though). Has a Euro bumper kit. Many of the parts have been sandblasted and treated. This car was discussed here a few times in the past, former Car & Driver cover car, one of 7 Khamsins originally fly yellow/black. 5 speed. It is still in Sweden I am in the process of arranging trucking to France. Am eager to see it completed since I considered buying it 10 years ago! best regards, Marc Image Unavailable, Please Login
Hi Marc After doing a bit of digging I have identified the sterio fitted the 1975 Australian car. it was a AUTOVOX Melody Super. This radio cassette was also fitted to Alfa Montreals. Graeme Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Thanks for the info Graeme. I never took photos close up but if it is of interest to you perhaps you can see what mine had apart of the stalk Berlin in this shot. best regards, Marc PS: my daily driver here in France (an old Rover) has a 20 year old radio cassette which I never ever turn on (the roads around here are too good and traffic & police free!) so I am not the person to ask about stereos sorry MS Image Unavailable, Please Login
Thanks Marc My reason for trying to work oit wat was installed as these acrs become more collectable ( working on the principal they will) even the things like Sterio's will become important. Working on the Bertone connection of other cars they made and the growing range of reworked Classic sterios for older cars I found there are a number of companies making the original stlye radios with MP# and Satnav biult in http://leegriffiths.blogspot.com/2011/01/new-technology-for-old-ferraris.html The other option that is becoming available is relacing the radio with a blank and using a MP3 12V amp to power the speakers and putting a blank over the original sterio hole. Yes my favorite stereo option: sorry for being ignorant about "moozik transmission devices" but you are doing great. In other news one Khamsin has changed status today: this one. I don't have the chassis number, just got one email several years ago but it is the only one in the land of Pharaohs, Nefertiti and nauseous over coverage by media. Perhaps the mummies in the tomb behind it will now arise and start its restoration now that they are free...after all Khamsin means 50 days in Arabic, the name given to a wind which occurs 50 days every years there... MS Image Unavailable, Please Login
Yes actually CNN took this photo yesterday between Cairo and SES, it was driven by a square jawed man who did not look too happy and was escorted by many police cars... MS PS: It is just an old factory archive photo which somehow was never used. They seem to have been trying to play with the wind sand storm theme... Image Unavailable, Please Login
Are you shure Mubarak, the ol`bugger, used a very erly version of his "Desert Storm"-car???? Ciao! Walter
Marc, We have an idiotic TV show over here run on the History and various other channels called "Ancient Aliens". Theme being that extraterrestrials planted all the outstanding technology on this planet thousands of years ago and helped design & build the pyramids. They also gave the light bulb to the Egyptians so they could build all of those underground tombs ... So just maybe THEY really invented the Khamsin too! I would help explain that crazy hydraulic system now wouldn't it! I know most auto mechanics think of it as alien technology the first time they lay eyes on it. PS the 50 days is an interesting tidbit. Thanks.
Hi Bob! I think you and Walter and Veloce two all have theories that are just a bit far fetched Here is a recent Youtube video [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DwiOhDufrHE[/ame] showing the yellow Khamsin in Japan, automatic, a photo of which I had found and posted some weeks ago. Not original color and the interior has been redone completely differently. I have a very nice japanese lady on the case, hopefully more news soon on this and other Nippon K's. Have a good Sunday, Marc
