The fastes Maserati MC 12 tuned by the famous german turner Edo Competition ride at Hockenheim http://www.fastdrive.org/1/p/car-videos/car-videos.php?view.735.0.20
2005 Maserati MC12 tuned by Edo Competition. VIN ZAMDF44B000019405, this car belongs to a rich (obviously) german man who wants to reach 400km/h with this car. He also removed the catalyzator. One of the 8 (!) MC12 that currently are in Germany.
how much horsepower does it now make and what are the major enhancements? Paint job is amazing in my opinion.
700 bhp, for a top speed of >370 kph (230 mph). Air intake system improved, changed the profile of the camshafts, different dampers and springs. Probably the gearbox will be the next enhancement: according to what a Maserati tester told me, the MC12 is someway "limited" to 330 kph (205 mph), and that if you modify something on the gear ratio, this car can be waaaaaaaaaaaay faster!
Mr. Bareither, the owner of #19405, is CEO of a company that supplies many solar-energy parts and complete units of this technology. In his garage he has: MC-12 Ferrari Enzo Ferrari FXX Ferrari 430 GTS Ferrari Superamerica Lamborghini Murcielago-Roadster Lamborghini Gallardo ...so, he is well "equipped"!! Funny chap also ("Hey Walter, wanna´drive the MC12?" "Yep! When??" "Call me, man!") Ciao Walter
Wonderful! You're an unbelievable source of informations about Maserati.... And i still don't know how to thank you!
Yeahhhhh - that`s why I don`t contribute on the Ferrari Forum. And when they open a Maserati "Chapter" within this Ferrari-stuff...GREAT! In the street where I live there are 5 (!!!) Ferraris. Can`t see them anymore. Anymore questions...? Ciao! Walter
I just can't understand how it is humaly possible to not adore Ferraris. They are just timeless works of art. But that is just my opinion, I guess that it why they started an "Other Italian" sub forum here.
I had a Ferrari (512 BBi). As I always say: Ferrari lost its sould in the last 10 years. Fact is: none of their mid-engine V12-GT-cars were REALLY good! I always laugh by listening to people who talk about Ferrari as if they are build by the lonely mechanic and the panel-beater taking the alloy over the woodden "monokino"! Fact is: Ferraris are produced today under industrial circumstances. For me the last "classic" Ferrari was the 288 GTO. The car was rare and a "man`s car"! Fact is: there is no car manufacturer on this planet that fools their customers in that way Ferrari does! They promised to make only 350+ F40`s( the last "man`s car") - and made over 1000!288 GTO is a fire-bomb and the F40 has the fuel-tank-problem! A friend of mine bought a 575 - and the engine blew after 300 km! It was checked by an engeneer and they found the mistake on Ferraris side - but Ferrari didn`t pay! The 348 were a complete dissapointment and the early 355`s were rost-bombs around their C-column. The mother my then-time girl friend had her 355 about 6 months when we found bubbles around that area! as a good friend from the UK always said: "if you buy a Ferrari you get a wonderfull engine - but the rest comes for free!! Ciao! Walter
Oh my Walter, you certainly didn't pull your punches. Remember this is a sub forum of "other Italian" on a Ferrari site. So how then can the MC-12 be so wonderful and the Enzo not? Can they not both be wonderful cars? Bob S.
Bob, of course the Enzo is a great car, a GT-car! All this rubbish comments that the MC12 is "based on the Enzo and only got a new name and coachwork"....! Even when the MC12 is not as powerfull as the Enzo, it drives circels around it. When Bugatti made its first 2005-test runs with the Veyron they took an Enzo, MC12 and Porsche GT on the VW-high-speed circuit in Hoyerswerda/Germany for comparation. Roland Gaertner, test-engeener of the Veyron, was very impressed about the Maserati and found the Enzo the worst from this trio. He told me that the MC12 is so much superior over the Enzo due to its much improved suspension. Also gear-change is a bit faster and more precise in the MC12 than with the Ferrari. A friend of mine met the engeneer who was in charge of the engine-development with the MC12 in Modena. His very nice statement to my friend was: "For the MC12 we have to sort out all the problems the Enzo-engine had!" The engine is much modified with the Maserati. Also the MC12 had the much better aerodynamic as the it is longer and has more downforce. All this details makes the MC12 the far better car than the Enzo. And now a little surprise for you: the Ferrari FXX is mainly based on the MC12 - according to an important person in the Maserati Factory. But all this you NEVER hear from Maranello - of course....! Anyway, the Enzo is a fantastic car.... Ciao! Walter
See, I made you divulge a wealth of interesting information. So, you're welcomed. To be fair, the MC-12 is a terrible GT car. It's so large that realistically, it's a track toy. I understand it's even longer/larger than the the XJ220. Talk about tuna boats! It's not a practical road car except perhaps in places like Wyoming or Nevada. Can you image the fun in doing that! Here's a challenge for you and your connections. Now I've done the Nevada Silver State race a couple of times. It's a glorious blast of a race that ends up in Las Vegas. Many an exotic car has done that race. Which MC-12 owner has the balls to fly one in and run it in the race? Fantastic publicity and coverage! Here's a tip. Have the car flown in to SF because the drive from SF to Ely/Lund Nevada(starting point of the race) is a lot more fun than the actual race once you get outside of Reno. Imagine 200 miles of flat out speed at a shot on Highway 50 (loneliest road in American) in an MC-12. I've done it my Bora 4 times and it's an unbelievable blast. Watch out for the cows. I'll bet there's not single European with the co hones to do that! Bob S.
Bob, yes, the MC12 is more a race car than the Enzo which makes it ...ehhh... not so good (sic.!) in town. But when it comes to handling qualities its fantastic! I don`t know of anybody who want to take his car to the US only to drive flat out on loney US-roads. As I had a chance to drive those lonely streets many years ago with a standart Porsche 911 I absolutley know what you are talking about. Its very special...! But driving, lets say, in the Bavarian mountains or in far northern Italy high up in the Dolomites is very special too and provides much thrills. Of course not flat out but - without cows!! Ciao! Walter
Well someone did years ago at the 1st or 2nd? staging of this event. They flew in a Porsche 959. (they were not legal at the time). See, co hones. It did not do too well as the the tire inflation monitors or something else kept failing. Neat idea though. Bob S.
