You guys are clown-punching each other. Both @wbaeumer and @TheMayor . Stop it.

The Mayor mentioned the 4C only as a comparison of cargo space compared to car size.

    Be nicer to each other.

    Matt,
in the past he mentioned various times his beloved 4C in the discussion about the MC20 about size etc., etc.
I think, we are both "nice" to each other - but we love to discuss....;)

Maybe we have the benefit of our age, compared to Shmee? Meaning that we have known Maseratis, Ferraris and Lamborghinis, Astons, etc since the 70's... Shmee looks to be born in maybe 1990?

Here we have (young) Shmee describing the MC20 in terms that match the core of what we have come to think of Maserati clients - just like many of you here have said. Shmee completely failed to comprehend the "softness" and "less exciting" qualities he was describing are Maserati's classic GT demographic: The MC20 is for the customer who wants a thoroughly sorted, classy, comfortable, powerful GT car with excellent but subtle styling.
Not a detuned racer* like Ferrari (*the qualities of which some reviwers are finding debatable), nor a nouveau-riche testosterone Lamborghini.

But this makes sense when these manufacturers compete by differentiation, not similarity.

..and apropos having known these cars since the 70's....

There was no "message" in Maserati advertising that "Hey everyone, our cars are developed as lovely powerful GT cars!"

That kind of coordinated product-development-to-targeted-marketing-message is a more modern trend I think, so only in hindsight can we say that Maserati did a terrible job advertising in print what these models were supposed to "mean" in the marketplace of European sports cars.

I recently looked through some vintage Maserati advertising materials. Talk about lack of product clarity. Popular advertising was still Bill Mitchell's "selling a lifestyle", and used oblique, suggestive one-liners like "Arrive in style"... with a photo a scantily clad California blonde draped over the car.

The advertising did nothing to communicate to a customer what the manufacturer developed the car for - GT, Racing, Sportscar, what have you. I've seen discussions pondering why Maserati's excellent cars didn't sell better than they did - I think Maserati neither had or could afford forward-looking product managers or press lease writers who could talk to marketing companies to convey where Maserati wanted to actually fit. I speculate the "automotive experience" was something a buyer had to look for in car magazines.

    Cheers,
    - Art

As proably the only person on this forum who drove the MC20 so far, I can confirm that ride quality is very nice and comftable. But, the next evolution will be sharper than the current 1st version. Furthermore Maserati has plans to go racing with the MC20. For that they clearly have to change the standard setup of the car, electrical mapping etc., etc., resulting in a even more charper version to match the FIA regulations. So the MC20 will not become a "softer Bora-like" car in the current market.
Competition has to become tougher these days and so Maserati needs a car that clarly can compete with Ferrari, McLaren, Porsche etc. in this class. Time will tell...

Mac 720s is known as being extremely comfortable yet that's taken as a compliment. Why is it an insult when applied to mc20?

I really like this car however I’ll never understand the angle behind the front wheel. Why not a solution more similar to this. Image Unavailable, Please Login

Because McLaren has a quite vigorous and far more recent racing heritage that's now better known by most of the potential buyers than that of Maserati? Plus ... most Maseratis over the last 30 years HAVE been softer riding GT or sedan automobiles. New kid on the block is assumed to be soft until he stands up.

The car is barely out yet, give it some time. Maserati needs to make sure the car is very right and then race it ASAP.
Then the compelling question is why buy this supercar vs a Ferrari, Lamborghini or McLaren ... ? How many can they sell?

WO a complete new chassis layout and passenger packaging if they made that change there's no way a person could ever get in or out of the car. Not to mention no place to attach the doors.

The shape of that silly fin doesn’t effect ingress/egress.

I guess we're looking at different cars?

Pop a door open and have a look to see how you'd do what you suggest. It "looks" to me like it couldn't be done WO what I suggest. I'm not likely to even see one of these in the flesh till late next year so for me it's an academic argument.

The fin behind the front wheel is on the door and is body work on top of the door’s structure, not the chassis. Changing profile of the edge of the fin doesn’t effect the opening of the door, ingress egress, the chassis, or anything other than the shape of the profile of that fin. Look at the picture. The cut lines of the door and before and after the fin. Image Unavailable, Please Login

Here look. The fin is part of the door and opens with it.

My Mc20 just arrived.:) I will post a more detailed review after I get to drive it for a couple of weeks. The car looks very impressive in person. Excited to check it out and see what it's like in terms of performance and daily drivability.

The more I see it and drive it the more I like it. Keeping in mind it is a Maserati, I'm not comparing it to the 296GTB, though that would be easy to do.
    Our demo arrived this week!

    Fixed it for you;-)

Mind you so many cyclists ride like idiots so some Darwinian culling via these doors is inevitable. When I went to the French Famiglia Maserati presentation of the car October 10 2021 near Beaune, Dijon, the speaker explained that these types of doors also allow greater overall rigidity thanks to the types of hinges and locks they use.
