I looked up Ferrari production and it is 8400 a year and many models have between 1800-15,000 built over the lifetime of the production run.
Rarity and scarcity (or desirability) are two different things. Something can be rare, but not scarce. A Pontiac Solstice, for example, is rare, but not scarce (as it's not highly desired). Same could be said for the MC20.
Don't let the MC20 on the link fool you ... this is about more than just the MC20's depreciation. It's kind of an amalgamation of all the petty Maserati gripes emanating from automotive gossip mongers but at the end he does a review of the Gran Tourismo Trofeo which he loves emphatically, very few gripes but he then says he can't wait for the massive depreciation so that he can afford to buy one. So if, professionally, you keep dising the Marque then eventually you can actually afford to buy one? How professional of him. He should up his game and ethics and study Harry Metcalf's approach. Enjoy
I was at a large Maserati dealer this morning and the salesman that I was told to see said that the first year of production was no more than 500 total units and that 2023 could have been a total of 2000 with Cielos and Spiders mixed in,he also said that there were very few in 2024.He stated that Maserati will not release production numbers so everything is speculation.
Coupes 2022 - 500 (per sales person) 2023 - 622 (assume 50% of 1,244 Units are Coupes) 2024 - 175 (if coupe stopped in march, and Maserati produces at full capacity of 1,400 units and 1/2 are coupes). Max Coupes = 1,297 Total Units. US is about 1/3 of Maserati's total market share but let's say 1/2 came to the US... Est US Coupes: 649 Units + 20 Icona + 20 Leggenda = 689 Units. FYI, 2023 sales of 1,244 is a published figure. Here's the link.
Someone inferred the lack of desirability of the MC20 a few posts back and I respectfully disagree. When Ford GT/Carrara GT/Porsche 918 came out, none of them were "desired". Market adjusted and price tanked. We all know how "undesirable" these cars are today. My hypothesis on the MC20's depreciation is primarily attributed to the original buyers and cheap money. Many wanted a quick "flip" and financed the deal with balloon financing. Fast forward 24 month: the balloon payment is due, rates are high and cheap money is gone. I suspect many are forced to sell. Back in April there were OVER 80 coupes for sale on CarGuru and today there are only 34 coupes. This is an indication of a stabilizing market. My wife who's not a car person said it best: "it has the good looks of your Lambo LP640, the brutal acceleration of your Tesla and rides smooth like a german sedan (in GT mode)." MC20 is scarce in supply and rare in sighting. To call it undesirable is like a fat girl calling a lingerie model ugly...to each's own.
I haven't been to Boardwalk Ferrari/Maserati lately, but a year ago they had at least a dozen in inventory. Now looking at their website they don't have any. Do they really not have any new or used ones for sale now? Maybe they're trying not to deal with them because depreciated so fast? https://www.boardwalkmaserati.com/
Definately NOT true for the FGT, all of the first year cars sold quickly and most above list. These are the 10-100 mile cars that will never be driven. The 2nd year cars sold pretty well, but sales slowed at the end so they only built 4,038 of the planned 4,500. So it was nothing like the new NSX or MC20, which were both DOA. I think the CGT sold slowly because I remember sitting in one at the dealer and rowing through the gears…..and they didn’t seem to care that a Corvette owner was messing around with their $393,000 car.
BaT sale stuck at 182.5 for over two hours now. 5 minutes left. Either gonna be a tremendous deal below 200k or RNM, again. Tempted to get in, but don't think I will . . . . first scrape or scar on either CF bumper/fascia and I'd be bawlin'. UPDATE: RNM at $185K.
Sorry, no. The MC20 is rare. But not scarce. The resale market underscores that. This one on BAT ended in RNM twice in the past 7 months. Never could reach 200k, even for a car with a 312k MSRP. https://bringatrailer.com/listing/2022-maserati-mc20-44-2/
I passed on a '06 with all 3 options for $125K in 2009/2010. So it was around 65% of MSRP (I recall it was around $190~195K). Still kicking myself.
When a MC20 hits 150k, I’m seriously going to think about picking one up. It would make for a fun weekend car.
MSRP was $160k for all 4 options. Yes, the financial meltdown was tough on everything, and I've heard of similar stories. Hard to blame you for passing though, I actually got laid off the first week of 2010. I've owned my FGT for 4.5 years, and it is EVERYTHING they say it is. I got kinda lucky to find mine just as the pandemic broke out. It had 28k miles and a couple of stories but I couldn't pass it up at $182k...and it was loaded with high dollar modifications. I could easily net $30k to go back to stock. Highly recommend it.
I think that would be an awesome move and I'm building up a store of dry powder myself. The biggest impediment are all the $250k 720s spiders running around.
Another slow mover in period was the Lexus LFA. Remember going to a dealer once for an RX300 and they had 3 of them in the showroom with big markdown stickers.
OK, but please don`t forget, that Carrera GT and 918 were made in quite limited numbers. And Ford GT are much below the current price figuers of the Porsche... On the other points I fully agree...(well, despite the Tesla....)

They do seem to come up with a lot names for the same basic car. I stopped going to Monterey Car week as it's too much of a zoo now, also expensive as hell for what you get. Over the years we had a lot of fun at these events ... but things change. I'll be quite pleasantly shocked if this debut turns out to be a big success.
It appears It’s going to have the over the top look at me styling that youtubers want, the question is will it have the 700 + hp the bench (keyboard) racers want?
