I'm starting to look at the MC20. I wouldn't buy trying to maintain value, but would have to feel pretty confident it wouldn't take a 20% a year hit. Not sure we're quite there yet.

Just about everything is taking a hit today in depreciation.

Correct, it is the demand side of the supply/demand equation that drives the value of some cars.....I have an incredible amount of conversations with Ford guys at shows, gas stations, restaurants, etc about these being their dream cars. It is like the goal of most Mustang owners, and they sell probably 100k of those a year. Most can't afford one at this point (hell neither could I, just got really lucky) but alot can.

The real value increaser in the '05-'06 FGTs though are they way they drive, just incredible.

Contrasting that with my 142 cars made Diablo, both the supply and the demand is quite small. Even though it has increased 3X over my 10 years of ownership, that growth is weak considering the supply.

The Boxer was more balanced and handled better. Performance is more than straight line or top end. The Countach was more toy than car- IMO.

And- Why limit the discussion to the 1970’s?

The Lamborghini Countach was produced from 1974 to 1990.

The following cars were made during this period and offered superior overall performance, usability and reliability: 911 Turbo, Ferrari Testarossa, Chevrolet Corvette ZR-1 C4, Ferrari F40, Porsche 959 (remove the last two if you want due to cost).

Plenty of tests in-period gave the Countach the win in most aspects of performance vs the Boxer, which like the TR was more of a GT car. None of the 3 regular production cars mentioned would beat it either

The Boxer was producing around 360 hp in the late 70s, while the Countach LP400 and S was producing around 375. The countach didn’t start producing over 400 hp until the engine was reworked by Alfieri. Who was the father of the best all around Italian mid engine car of its era, the Bora. Not the fastest, or most exotic looking, but the most refined and most elegant. Kind of like the MC20 today.

This MC20 above sold today on BAT for 216,151 and add the 7500 in for the buyers fee.I see this as a very fair price for a 306,395 sticker 2023 with 1500 miles.

  11. The fact that the hammer price (about a 90k haircut from MSRP after 1 year and 1500 ODO) on the MC20 can be considered a "very fair price" speaks volumes about the depreciation and demand for the MC20.

the problem is that everyone wants to compare with Ferrari. Ferrari operates on a different level than everyone else. Compare with Lamborghini, McLaren etc. Maserati is on par.

The MC20 is not the only super car to depreciate at a high level,Looking at BAT today a 2023 Ferrari Roma with 48 miles on it sold for 217,500 and with the sales commission of 7500 that would be 225,000 and the MSRP was 438,896 Canadian so this would be about 310,000 US dollars and that is 72.5% of sticker. The McLaren Artura is also in this club.

Yah there's a lot of depreciation in late model exotics going on. Aston Martin and McLaren are certainly not exempt.

It appears that the exotic manufacturers are dealing with massive depreciation on their hybrids and most buyers are not interested in a hybrid and only want a ICE.

That car at Miller is a Lemon Law buy back so it should be cheap.
