    Thanks, Ivan.

Those are great links. I would add that some years back I had a good number of engine brackets, fuel rails, and so on redone as per factory finish in yellow zinc chromate, only to find it to be a sacrificial metal with much of it disipated after a few years during the course of weekly driving.

Typically, if not always, these cadmium type [true cadmium not used commercially AFAIK] parts are first plated in nickel [Ni] then plated with yellow zinc chromate at the factory. I believe Caswell has nickel plating kits as well. Doing a multiple plate may not yield a much improved look over doing a single plating with zinc as you did.

Long story short, if you wish to preserve all the hard work prior to installing, powder coating is the ultimate final hard finish to apply. It is an easy process for a DIYer that can be done at home. Ivan, in your case, you may consider spraying those parts in situ with a clear coat for that extra lasting protection.

    Just Sayin! :)

    Ciao,
    George

I agree. As a last step the parts are sprayed with a clear coat.

A prior "mechanic" had his hands on the wiring and much of my time has been spent with a multimeter identifying and labeling each wire ... plus undoing some of his "fine" handiwork. Luckily the Mistral dash is not too difficult to remove.

    Hi Alex and Alain,
I would like to add something to the heatshield discussion. Generally a shield is placed between a heat source and a part which you want to protect from that heatsource.
The heatsource will transmit its heat in two ways to the part that needs protection:
    - by heating the surrounding air, which then will heat up the part.
    - by radiating in the infrared in all directions. The part will receive a fraction of this radiation and will heat up.

If you place a heatshield between the heatsource and the part, the shield will most probably stop the circulation of air between the source and the part.
If the heatshield is made of a nice, brilliant sheet of aluminium, more than 90% of the infrared radiation is reflected back to the heatsource. The aluminiumsheet itself stays rather cool. The aluminiumsheet beeing rather cool and being also brilliant on the rear side, it will emit practically no heat to the part.

Conclusion: Painting the sheet in black is the best way to make the sheet ineffective.
The best heatsheet is brilliant aluminium without any insulating stuff put on either side.
If you can stand a non-original brilliant aluminium sheet, you will have the best!
(I know, most manufacurers want to paint everything black, like the chassis, but it is wrong!)
    Wilfried

The interior will be it's original Senape. This has already returned reupholstered in new leather.
In January I am expecting the engine, gear box, rear axel and steering rack back from the mechanics. My job will be to complete the puzzle. Will be nice as it's been 1,5 years since I saw the car complete... 2015 will hopefully be a nice season.

I should probably make a restoration thread in this section as I have tons of photos from the process since I purchased the car as a running project in May 2013. I seem to have some sort of limitation on how many pictures I may upload - does anyone have the cure for that?

By the way; I hope to drive the car from Norway to the South of France in September for the International Rally held by the French club. Hope to see some of you there!

    Hi Alex,
The color combination of your car will look great.

The time is against me too. I am still scraping the floors and underbody and I will not be ready for the MIR 2015.

Please post more pictures on the Lazzaroni forum. I am anxious to see the rebuilding process.
    Good luck, Alain.

    Hi Alex...

I agree with Alain.. The color combination will look superb!!!

To post more pictures here, you may have to upgrade your membership level.
Ivan Ruiz advised me of this, and I have had no problems since.. All of us Mistral
owners are very keen to follow both your and Alain's progress!

What is the Lazzaroni forum?? If this is something we fellow Mistral owners
should know about, please forward the link and other pertinent information..

It is good to see both your and Alain's Mistrals coming back to life in such great
condition!!! Gives the rest of us hope on ours someday...

Happy new year to you all and a lot of pleasure restoring and driving.

Thanks Mike for your kind words.
The progress on the Mistral is very slow since 2-3 monthes, because the scraping work is very unpleasant (as you all know...)

When it's finished and I begin to weld and paint, I will post "before and after" pictures of the work again."

But, sincerely, there is another factor that slows the work on the Mistral down. A '68 Fiat Dino 2000 Coupe is now in the garage too.
I saw it in France in December and couldn't resist to buy it. It's a 2 owner's, never restored car. Even the "Giallo Positano"paint is original.
I have always liked the look of this car designed by Candini and Giugiaro. The Dino engine's sound is faboulus. It only needs a good tune up of the engine to be enjoyed as is.

    Alain.

Your car looks great Alain, it deserves its own thread. The Dino is a neat little GT. Agree on the sound. And a perfect color for it.

    hello mistral folks,
i own 2 x mistral and found enrico's maserati pages very useful.
purtroppo he shut down his classic parts page because of fraud mails.
is there any other place for mistral parts?
    thanks
    frank

I also miss that parts page. My tip would be just to leave a request here in this thread id there's something you can't find through the regular places, like MIE or eBay. I have also sourced parts through leboncoin.fr and subito.it. Happily my car was complete, so only service parts needed. In addition you can of course find parts at specialist, like Bill McGrath or like for the Lucas at powerprops.com.

    What are you looking for?

    Hello gerardogras...

What year is your Mistral(s)? Do you have a picture of the steering wheel you need?
I think I saw the gas door chrome surround for sale on e-bay not that long ago.. The
dash center switches could be a little bit more difficult to find.. I don't think they are
the same as the rocker switches found in the later cars....
