Congratulations Alejandro and thank you for sharing this journey with us! You have earned many years of good car-karma by saving the wonderful original interior and persisting with the injection. cheers, Derek
Dear Azul, A very fine job you have done with your Mistral. Congratulations! I have read your perfect restoration story with a lot of interest, especially also because I am busy restoring a Mistral with exactly the same specification. Same argento auteuil colour, same 3,7 engine and same red carpeting. So soon there will be a twin Mistral on the road. My Mistral is a very early one (nr. 128) and has some differences with yours. Among others, there are no back seats in my car and the ashtray is different What we have in common is that we both have the injection done by Harm Klijn. For me that was easy because he lives only 30 km away from here. He promised to help fine-tuning the system when the engine is started. If you allow me I ad a few pictures here. Dear Pieter, Congratulations for your car, its becoming very nice. Is the interior in good condition? Hope you post the photos of the restoration. Best regards, Alejandro
Alejandro and Pieter... Both your cars look great !!! You are starting to make me feel bad... SOME DAY,,, Some Day,,, some day... Mike Image Unavailable, Please Login
"Is the interior in good condition?" No Alejandro, The leather and carpets could not be saved. So it needs new upholstering. I am looking for a good equivalent for the leather, as the Connoly (code PAC 1603) is no more available. Best regards, Pieter Noordman
Hi Alejandro, This is my mistral as pictured last friday. It will take a few (= 3 to 4) month to completion and then the 3500 gti will follow. All my cars are Max Meyer Argento Auteuil Best regards, Pieter Noordman Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Pieter, It´s good to see that you did not loose interest in the mark after all you trials and tribulation with AM101S10269. Those two are fine looking cars. Good luck with the completion. Kind regards, Jan
Hello All... I recently obtained three Mistral manuals (one-English, two-Italian).. They actually all appear to be original from the factory, as far as I can tell, and are in ok condition. One of the manuals covers the late 3.7 and 4.0 cars, based on the facts that it references both AM 109 and AM 109/A1, along with indicating the S5-20 transmission, 15" wheels, and the 4 rocker switch grouping on the dashboard. This one is in English and seems to be the one I see most often for this car. The second one, in Italian, indicates 109 Servizi d'Officine on the cover and appears to have some service tips, along with indicating some Alternator changes from 1965 to 1966. It's the third manual, in Italian, that is the most interesting. It appears to be for a early 3.7 car, like mine. This is supported as it only references AM 109, indicates the cilindrata totale as 3692, the wheels as 600 x 16, the S5-17 transmission, and shows the 5 rocker switch grouping on the dashboard. Also, what is most interesting is that it appears to show a 2 pump layout as far as the electrical connections are concerned. Has anyone seen such a manual before?? I know I haven't and was somewhat surprised that this seems dedicated to the 3.7 early car. Most interesting... Mike
Mike, I have never seen a Mistral manual in English. Does it have the same cover as the Italian version? http://thecarnut.com/Manuals/MUM_Am109Mistral.pdf I would really like to get a scanned copy of that manual to put on my website. Ivan
Hi Ivan.. The manual you reference is the booklet manual, roughly 6-1/4" x 8-3/8" in size, and covers all versions of the Mistral (3.5, 3.7, and 4.0). I am pretty sure this manual came later in the run, after the 4.0 was introduced. But there had to be other manuals available for the early 3.5 and 3.7 cars. This is where I suspect these manuals come from, especially the version for the early 3.7 cars. The manual you have is very comprehensive and features more detailed service info, whereas 2 of the 3 I have, one in Italian with pages titled "USO E MANUTENZIONE VETTURA MASERATI DUE POSTI', or the English version one called "THE USE AND MAINTENANCE OF THE MASERATI MISTRALE TWO-SEATER", less so in detailed servicing info. The third manual I have is titled "USO E MANUTENZIONE VETTURA MASERATI 109 - DUE POST - OFFICINA". These manuals are all in covers that are 9" x 12", with the pages being 8-1/4" x 11-5/8", definitely not American sizes. I know the QPI and Mexico have a combined manual very similar to the one you have for the Mistral. But there are also two, similar in size to the ones I have, for the QPI and Mexico respectively. I am sure you have seen these all. Over the next couple of days, I will scan a page or two and display them here. You will probably recognize them then... If you still are interested in them, we can go off-line and discuss getting them in some format for your website. I will also check your website for the QPI and Mexico manuals you have to see if you have these other two I reference as well. Mike
Here are some pictures of pages from the English Mistral manual.. Note it references the 3.7 and 4.0, and shows the S5-20 gearbox. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Here are some pages from the Italian Mistral 'Service' manual.. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Here are some pages from the Italian Mistral Use and Maintenance manual. Note that I believe this is for the early 3.7 model. The page shows the S5-17 gearbox. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I have several original Mistral manuals in my library. I have the ones that are "use and maintenance" in Italian and English for the three engine sizes as well as something that I have never seen published although it is obviously from the factory. It is titled " Impianti Electrici Vetture: 109-109/A Mistral" and is in Italian. It has several schematic drawings of wiring as well as what type of end fittings are on the various wires and details on the lengths and colors of the various wires in the harness plus much more information on the wiring of the 109-109/A cars. I bought it years ago as part of my collection of original manuals for the 3500 GT up to the Khamsin in any language they have been printed in. Elliot
Hello Elliot.. That sounds like a great manual!! Have you ever thought of having copies made and making them available to owners... That electrical manual would be very beneficial to all us fellow owners!! Please give it some thought... Mike
I will go over to the printer next week and make up some copies. If anyone wants to post it for the benefit of the Maserati community, I would appreciate it as I am not too good at those things. Also, if it could be translated from the Italian into English, French and German (assuming that after inspection it is worth while doing so) so everyone can benefit from the material that would be wonderful.
