I own an '02 Coupe GT which I purchased new. Its approaching 6,000 miles and hasnt had any service done, other than me topping off the oil. According to the manual, the brake fluid, and coolant have to be replaced as well as the oil/filter. I understand the need for the oil/filter change as that is normal. Have any maserati owners had the 6,000 mile service done yet? If so did you have the brake fluid and/or coolant replaced? Is this really necessary? Thanks!

6.000 miles on a coolant change? Ha..what a joke. To me that is purely ripping off the customer for somthing they don't need. The average coolant change interval is 48,000km (based on recommened service intravels on ,Benz,BMW,VW,Audi etc.) They use the same metal as pretty much anyother high end car company now for the bolck and heads..so if a BMW can run 48k on coolant..so should your Maser.

Having said that..I would do it anyway as not to cause any problems with warrenty issues. Many companies will void a warrenty if so much as one oil change is missed..or is late..so stick with what they reccomend to do for now. Just my 2cents.

Do the suggested items. The car is 2 years old - so the fluid changes are a good idea for age reasons, not just mileage. For what it is worth, I had the same items - brake fluid, coolant, and oil/filter change - done during the 6000 mile service on my Maserati Coupe.

Brake fluid picks up moisture over time, so a brake fluid change every 2 years is a good thing, esp for a high performance car.

    Best,

Mileage Versus Months has always been an issue for me. I bought my Maserati just like my other cars to be seasonal drivers. Even with that I usually put on less than 2,000 miles a year since a good portion of my driving is my work commute which is only about 2 miles each way. I think it's better to go with months for service especially since many of us leave our cars sitting for extended periods of time. On my 99 4runner I just hit 6,000 miles and every fall I make sure oil gets changed and the other big thing is to have all fluids drained and replaced every two years for vehicles that hibernate. I will do the same for my Spyder

Thanks for all your advice, I guess I will have it done, but my dealer wants to charge me $1,000.00 for the 6,000 mile service. I know this is a bargain compared to just about any Ferrari service but from your experience is this reasonable? I know the oil changes are around $400 for the Maser. Busdriver how much were you charged for your 6k service?? Thanks!

I paid about $225 for the oil change on my Maserati at WWOC. They are an authorized dealer.
