    Hi all -

I'm considering acquiring a 2002 or so Spyder (probably) or Coupe (maybe). Would anyone have any suggestions on what features to get/avoid or possible trouble areas? I picked 2002 model year as they seem to be availabe in mid-high $40's.

Anyone interested in a trade for a great 1990 Bentley Turbo R? (Illinois area).

    Thanks for everyone's help.

The reason 02 models dropped like flies in the last year is because of the fact that the warranty's are starting to run out. As far as trouble areas, the car is very reliable for the most part, one thing to watch out for his when the clutch was changed last, the CC pump assuming you're going with a cambiocorsa. The top on some of the spyders won't shut right make sure the top is working properly. Other then that there's not much, I've heard alot of case by case scenarios but the major problem these cars seem to have is with the Cambiocorsa pump.

I think I remember sometime on here someone saying that if something specific (can't remember what it was) goes wrong with the top, it would cost something like $15,000 to replace or repair. Is this true? Anyone hear or recall this? I find that hard to believe. I'll be thinking of one of these come next year myself.

I guess it depends what goes wrong with the top. I've only heard of one guy having problems with the top and he's on ************.com apparently it ended up being a $30k repair but Maserati covered the bill under warranty.

I read about that too. Maserati ended up replacing the parts for him.

I have read that there were upgrades made to the cambiocorsa on the 2003 and 2004 models that made the shifts smoother. I think these upgrades were done to earlier models as well when they were in for service. You may want to drive a 2004 for comparison sake. I dont know of any specific features on the car that is trouble prone. I would recommend the Xeon lights and personally I like the vintage package option. The tubi is probably the most important option I could suggest to you. It completely transforms the car. The upgraded sound system may not be worth it, but if your buying used, you probably wont have a choice on that.

Recently acquired a 2002 Maserati GT Coupe 6 speed.
Glad to say after 500 miles I am content with the purchase.

The car has been absolutely great.... Well mannered...
even in California rush hour traffic.

Would suggest the 6 speed over the CC.

I drive a 2002 coupe cambio as my daily driver. It has over 25K on it, and except for the clutch upgrade done under warranty, it has been totally trouble free. You know, unlike older Ferraris, these cars are German underneath, not counting the drive train. basically it runs like a Benz but makes better noise!
