If that happens,my hopes for a QP with the V12 will vanish.... They were testing prototypes not that long ago and I was hoping the car would be made soon but now it seems unlikely. I need a ultra high performance sedan for a daily driver, will get the M5 in the Fall but am not excited ,would like to replace it with something that would make my blood run faster. The problem is ,there is nothing there or in the pipeline(CLS55's are a dime a dozen and current QP is too slow)
The M5 is quite the saloon car already. As for the V12 QP, Iit might be a possibility, but i'm not holding my breath either. Why does Fiat want to sell Maserati?
Bentley Flying Spur? S65 Benz? EDIT: WHOA, just checked your profile, you're in lake forest? I used to live there a few years ago, great town!
Money no object? The new four door bently four door is amazing. Nice write up in this months Motor Trend. Check out that car if you want something very different, unique and quite sporting to boot. thats the hot ticket with lasting appeal. JMO
First of all, why would the Fiat group want to sell Maserati, it a wonderful car make, which improves Fiat's status, and it generates rather decent sales. Does anyone know who they are planning to sell it to, if VW picks this up I am gonna flip. By the way, even though the current Quattroporte is not as fast on paper as an M5, I can garantee it is a far more satisfying car to own and to drive then a BMW, it is, after all, a maserati.
First, what's the basis of this idea? Second, neither Fiat nor their new chief LDM are stupid. Why completely rebuild a classic Italian brand only to sell it before you reap the real long-term profits? Hold the rumors, gents.... Forza, Cavallini
Read it on *************,they had a link to a German newspaper about Banks taking control over Maserati and Alfa very soon. BTW,S65 would be nice if I did not get rid off my S600 full Renntech recently(been there, done that) and a new body style was not coming soon. AS far as QP is concerned, had the car for a week, loved it immensely but still think it's way too slow.
? these sensational headlines should only happen in tabloids.... does the german want maserati that bad? not sure if a V12 QP will even be fast enough for you. may be go with a s65 or a E55 Brabus/Kleeman/Carlsson upgrades.
A new style S65 yes, current one will have resale like keys dropped from a Lear. E55: been there ,done that, like my ex,don't want to go back there.
Another glimmer of hope in current "Autospies"; claiming Ferrari developed QP with 575 powertrain(including 6 speed manual),detuned to a round 500hp as a parting gift to Maserati???!!! To be introduced this Fall.... I hope I'm not dreaming but if that happens ,that car would be the ultimate sport sedan ever!!!!!!!!!
Absent, I read the story on ************* and it seems to be so. As I thought about it, however, I realized that a potential buyer would probably stay the course, especially with the V12 version of the QP. It, the QP, as well as the Gransport, appeal to a different customer and type of driver than the BMWs, MBs, and Audis of the world. The special charisma that both cars have would be preserved, I believe. In fact, in the right hands, Maserati could be a very strong brand, stronger than it is and has been with Fiat. Your thoughts..... Cavallini
How much you want to bet Ford makes a run for it? I bet they're still frowning over loosing Ferrari to Fiat. If Ford uses the same strategy they did with Aston Martin - I think it would be a good thing.
I saw an article in "CAR" magazine and it was talking about VW wanting to buy Maserati. It could turn out okay if VW bought Maserati. They did buy Lamborghini. As for Ford buying Maserati I'm fine as long as they don't make them look like Aston Martins. This happened to Jaguars unfortunately.
I hope they don't sell Maserati to anyone especially VW.....thats all we need is a Maserati based of the VW passat.
Agree but lets look at this from another angle, Masser isnt really doing very well under Fiat ownership and a transferr of parts from Alfa is going to ruin the marque in my opinion, what is ideally needed is a totally independant buyer, perhaps a Russian....(TVR seems to be doing great under Russian ownership) VW wouldnt make any sense as the QP would clash with the frankly dire looking Fyling Spur( Korean Hyundai in drag in my opinion) But lets see how things progress, perhaps Alfa does have a decent plan, but there still is the question of where and how much its going to cost to developr componentarty to replace the Ferrari componentry used up till now. Alfa's current fit and finish just wouldnt stand up to scruitany.... In 90 odd years Masser has been a very troubled brand, first Citroen, then Allesandaro De Tomaso...
Get an RS6 with the turbos (not the soon to released V10...if thats accurate). the car looks great, AWD is good as a daily car, and it hauls @ss!
What worries me the most ,is the Alfa's plan to downgrade the future Masers to 6 cylinders and make them more "affordable". If that happens, the Maserati's current semi exotic status would be further diluted.
The DB7 and XJ220 are 6 cylinders... the F40 is a 3.0L V8 pushing 165bhp/liter. Do you judge them by their displacement or number of cylinders too?
