Hello, I'm looking for any info on Maserati GT cars with REAR window/windscreen wipers. I have seen one Maserati 5000 GT with them, a few Lancia, and one Ferrari, (Superfast?)

Does any one have any information or photographs of cars fitted with REAR wipers???

    Ciao, ciao!

The rear window wipers on the Lancia Flaminia Berlina were both inside and outside!

I can find several pictures that show the outside rear wipers on the Flaminia, but it's hard to see the inside wipers, the outers are right over the inners. I'll include an exploded view from the parts book showing the layout. The inners and outers are on the same shaft. Look at all those pieces! According to the test in R&T, May 1959:

"The rather fussy arrangement of rear window wipers (two inside and two out, working in tandem) is set in motion with the aid of manifold vacuum (note: this isn't true, the rear quarter windows are vacuum-operated, but the wipers are electrically-operated). A pushbutton to the right of the steering column produces one complete swipe and parks them. As the handsome lip over the rear window can produce an effect similar to peering out through Victoria Falls, they will be appreciated."

Edit: There is a picture in the Crump/Box Maserati book showing the rear end of an Allemano-bodied 3500 with twin rear wipers, page 176.

Why do you refer/compare a prototype-3500 from Allemano with a standart Touring? The fact that the Allemano had this rear wipers doesn`t mean that also some Touring had it!

However - I never saw such a specification with a standart 3500 GT made by Touring.

    Ciao!

What??? The caption in the book says "An early Allemano bodied 3500GT with twin rear wipers". Who said anything about Touring? He asked for "info about Maserati GT cars with rear window windscreeen wipers", and I told him where to find a picture. What's wrong with that?

Jeff and Walter,...thank you for the info on the Lancia and the 3500 GT/A ~Allemano coupe! I'm writing an article on the aesthetics of unusual options on coach built cars. After seeing a 1962 Maserati Sebring with original rear wipers, I thought it would be an interesting topic to biring up for an article/discussion via the web community.

I've been told of a 5000 GT/A with rear wipers as well as a "swivel passengers seat". I know this on this on a Superfast, but I haven't seen it in person on a 5000 GT, anyone else?

What other unusual Maserati options were built, and or ordered on our cars?

    ~Ciao and best!

OK, correction here from my side: you asked for such infos "...on Maserati GT cars..." and not Touring in particular.
    Apologizes...

    Ciao!

I thought this might be interesting for some of you. I just purchased a document which is from Maserati dated 3/1957. It lists the specifications for the 3500 GT.

There are some unusual options one of which is:

Front and rear heating of the windshields/windscreens.

It also states that windshield/windscreen wipers are available on both front and rear windshields.

In Italiano : Tegicristallo sul parabrezza e sul verto posteriore.

    Has anyone seen one lately???

    ~Ciao and best!

There is also a picture of the first 3500 in 1957 with a rear wiper. It is shown on page 80 of the Crump book "Maserati Road Cars" It appears to me to be a Touring body. The Allemano Body on the same page also has a rear wiper

Here is the Allemano 3500 with rear wipers. Does anybody know the VIN number of this Allemano 3500? Was this AM 101.002 which was rebodied by Touring of Milan?

Maserati produced 2 cars with Alemanno-coachwork on the 3500GT-chassis:

    #002 and #008.

Its hard to say which car is shown on the photos as it seems that both cars changed in color.

Both Alemanno came to the USA. #002 was later rebodied by Touring and #008 was most likely scrapped as the latest owner had a fatal accident in it.

    Ciao!
    Walter
