I've been told today that Massa has resigned for another year with Ferrari, no news on salary, but it is a single year extension. I'm told it will be announced during this weekend.

Anybody else hear the same? It came from someone inside Ferrari F1...

    Regards
    Mike James

Edit to add: Schumacher was never a contender for the seat.

Holy moly, I agree with TifosiUSA on something! LOL :D

If this is true, what are they thinking?

That the alternatives were themselves not what Ferrari wanted. No surprise there if this is true at all. I believe they have not decided and will wait until the year end as they have said the last few months. I do believe is Massa stays it is for 1 year.

Honestly, he must have pictures of LdM sucking off a tranny. How is this possible.
He's done ok the last few races, but that's how he should have driven all year.

However, you've gotta remember that *everyone* in the team, from LdM to the truckies, are clueless buffoons that know nothing about race cars or their drivers...... :)

I, for one, hope it's true. Forza Phil! [Ducks & covers! ;)] As I've said all along, there's a lot to be said for the devil you know - Witness Badoer & Fisi doing *really* well after the accident.

However, having said that, it does appear that there may indeed be someone in the wings for 2014, hence the one year - Something most new arrivals don't want - It doesn't apply so much to incumbents (Mark being a good example), but not many guys are gonna jump ship, for one year, to what is, let's be honest, an upper mid field team with a *superstar* driver in Fred. There'd be nothing to gain and much to lose. I suspect that even if they did pursue Nico & Checo they both wanted multi year deals. Phil was maybe the best option of a bad bunch?

    Cheers,
    Ian
PS - I'm not hearing any heads exploding yet - Hopefully, next weekend if this is true! ;)

At the moment, they need someone not to disturb Alonso. Massa fits perfectly. Signing Perez or Sutil, might upset the balance and we might see Alonso 2007 version.

If this is all true, i won't be surprised if Alonso had a major say in this.

The dumbest move by Ferrari in many many years.

    How utterly disappointing! :(

If they sign Massa for just a one year extension
Then for sure Vettel is coming to Ferrari in 2014

I find it very hard to believe that Ferrari can not find an alternative #2 driver to team with Alonso.

IMO, it is a mistake to sign Massa on for another year, if this turns out to be true.

All I can say is....if this is true, Vettel better be coming in 2014 because that's the only way I can rationalize it. Ferrari can't be this stupid.

I was thinking something along those lines. Some pics of Mosley come to mind.

Neither Sutil nor Hulkenberg would have challenged the #1 status of Alonso and both would have been faster than Massa.

Massa is simply the lowest common denominator. That doesn't mean there aren't better alternatives out there. Very disappointing.

Serious debacle territory. It would make more sense to just race as a one car team than to have Massa wasting time, resources and $$ in a pointless second car. What on Earth is going on?!

sad to hear, i'm not a massa fan, but then i don't like alonso much either, but at least i can respect his talent ....i suppose ferrari and ldm figure it is best for the team, not that i agree

I doubt that. Alonso's got the strongest head in the business right now. He's a lot older and more mature, and if the **** car didn't phase him at the beginning of the year, a teammate sure won't do it.

    My bet is Perez...

+1 He's in a totally different "place" today as they say. About the only thing that would phase him is a quicker team mate, and that's not gonna happen no matter who's in the other car.....

Thanks guys! I know there are many who disagree however..... ;)

    +1 Wouldn't be surprised if there's an (in?)famous "pre-contract" already in place.

    Cheers,
    Ian

Clearly they know nothing :) Also this might not be true(Massa new deal).

When the team make an announcement then heads might go up in flames. As far as the WCC go it didnt matter for 20 years, they lost and lost and stayed in the sport. Seemingly to search for that next 'winning' driver.

A WDC over the WCC. Its just much more commercial. A face to a victorious year etc etc.

WCC are the consolation prize for not winning the WDC. They do matter.

Alonso has not matured, he's just in the place he wants to be, a one man team.
