At the announcement of the new Ferrari California, Felipe Massa was designated to lead the F1 team with Kimi Raikkonen to support him for the rest of the season. At the end of the presentation they were sent to bed while everyone else was invited to have dessert and view the new California.

According to the Ye Olde Formulae 1e Rule Booke, a team is only allowed one #1 change per season, and up to three #2 changes per season.

Massa said something that changed my perception about him during an interview to a Brazilian TV channel: "If I can't fight for the world championship myself I don't deserve to drive for the Ferrari team ". We all know that Kimi is not happy with Ferrari's decision, but I'm happy that Massa won't expect to be helped by Kimi. I personally agree with the Ferrari decision this season because Kimi is far behind, I really didn't like that when Schumacher and Rubens were in the team back in the days.

Yeah, Montezemelo spent about 3 minutes talking about Felipe and how he's a part of the family and how Kimi needs to support him then thanked Kimi for his championship in about two sentances.

By the way, Kimi said yesterday that he doesn't "feel like a second driver", I assume this comment was made prior to what Montezemelo said at the California Preview.

i know i don't have any proof or validation in saying this but i feel Kimi is being a big baby! lets recap to last year in Brazil when Hamilton fell back in the pack and it was known that Kimi had a shot to win the race as well as the championship. if you recall Massa was in the lead and was in control of winning his home race, which obviously and visibly meant a lot to him. Ferrari did a clever job in the pits and Kimi got ahead of Massa. Massa of course did not threaten Kimi's chances and in the end was instrumental in helping him achieve his first title in his first year.

this year Kimi only has himself to blame and has two serious contenders in front of him and as Kimi puts it, needs a miracle to win the title. so what i can't figure out is why Kimi won't give Massa the same courtesy?! i really don't care if Kimi thinks he is a contender, #1 driver, etc. he is getting overly paid....at least do something for the team!

I'm disappointed with Kimi. He should realise he wouldn't be champion if it wasn't for Massa. Now it's time to return the favour. It's common courtesy.

I heard to motivate him they've threatened to make him parade around the track pre-race in the new California with the top down.

+1 Massa shouldn't need help to win the WDC, the WCC is another matter.

Never quite understand this #1 or #2 driver thing if you can't have team orders. Clearly Felipe is the best chance Ferrari has got at this stage this year and if Kimi chooses of his own volition (not, of course, because anyone else in the team asked him) to be a mobile chicane behind Felipe, then that is just racing, right?

That could be the clause in him getting his new extended contract. He had to agree to being number 2 for the rest of this year.

If you watched the California premier, you would have seen how strange the whole proceedings were. At one point Luca TOLD Kimi and Massa that they needed to go home and go to bed NOW, that Michael could stay late because he wasn't racing. Luca also reminisced about how Massa was a little boy when he came to Ferrari, that he was still a boy, and then Luca added, he's still a boy, and "I apologize to his wife that he is still a boy . . . ." or words to that effect.

I agree with Rafael above, I wasn't a big Massa fan, but when he commented
that basically it was only up to him, I gained alot of respect for him. At lest
he's not a whiner like Rubens was.

After Singapore, a moot subject if Massa finishes ahead of Raikkonen.
