'85 308 Euro QV I have searched the forum and read a lot of good posts on rebuilding the MC and re-sleeving but most of the post's appear to around 5 years old. There was a reference to WhitePost, many had liked his service in the past, but not now (2009). They are still around and charge about $250 plus shipping. They use a brass sleeve. The question is whether to replace or re-sleeve the MC? Superperformance has a new one for $415 USD plus shipping. Does anyone have any other recommendations for re-sleeving? Generic Fiat replacement? For those who bought new. Did you measure/adjust the pin (between power booster and MC) or did it require adjusting.
I bought a new one from GT Car Parts. I didn't measure the pin, I should have, GT explained what I was doing wrong. I have only heard mediocre reports on White Post for the last few years including a Lotus Elan m/c they had to redo for me. To their credit they were pleasant to deal with when I asked them to redo it. I believe these masters are unique to these cars, could be wrong. I got brake incorrect brake hoses from Superformance last winter. They wanted me to pay return shipping and wait for them to inspect them before sending out replacements. I emailed pics showing they were obviously wrong, to no avail. I put them in the trash and got hoses from either GT or Rutlands. Tom
I have never re-sleeved, but I am about to re-brake one of my Avanti's getting her ready for the show circuit next year. Front calipers & MC are pitted.
I had a mc resleeved awhile back out of stainless. There is an outfit in the LA area (serria madre?) that does custom work at whitepost prices. Sorry I forget ten the name of the place perhaps someone on Fchat can chime in. I avoid using whitepost because brass is too soft and easily scored.
I wanted to thank everyone for their input. I investigated several of the suggestions listed above. I was unable to locate a Fiat replacement. They either had the wrong size piston or the wrong bolt pattern 2 vs 4. I am not saying there isn't one, but i unfortunately, couldn't cross it. The cheapest new unit I found was $415 plus shipping. So I gambled $175 in savings and sent it to White Post. It cost $240 for a complete rebuild. They use a brass sleeve. I think I would have preferred SS, but you take what you can get. It came back looking brand new and works perfect. They turned it around in less than a week. So I give them 2 thumbs up. PS. Do yourself a favor and get a power brake bleeder. Simple, cheap and very effective.
