I think what you have there is a Lesney 1/56 scale. I found an article in Road & Track, March 1966, called "The Automobile in Miniature" which has a small black & white picture of this car bearing the #73. The car has a driver in it.

Matchbox = Lesney. Same thing. I didn't know that, not my area of expertise. Google it, pictures on ebay.

The actual Ferrari 156 "sharknose" never wore that number in a Grand Prix event.

It looks like it just competed in the Sahara Grand Prix!

I dont't think this is Matchbox, the tires dont look right to me. I have a similar car from the same era which is in nearly perfect condition which is why I was attracted to this thread. The Matchbox version has a little driver in the cockpit as well.

That`s definately a well worn Matchbox car. I have one right here in my collection, although mine is Mint.
I still remember scraping up the 33 cents they cost back in the sixties, getting on my bike and going to L.H. Martins to buy one.
I used to be able to go to a candy store when I was a kid on Long Island and buy the old discontinued Matchbox cars for a quarter each. I sure wish I still had those cars now.
