I've just bought a red and a yellow Mattel Elite F40 from this guy on Ebay. Says they'll be with me tomorrow!

I was only going to go for a red one but the yellow one looked so great in the photo I couldn't resist. Will let you know what they're like.

Probably, yes... ;) In actuality, there IS a difference in the Bburago and standard Mattel models, and this upcoming "Elite" series from Mattel is supposed to be much more detailed. They *should* compare to Kyosho or AutoArt, considering the price, but the proof - as they say - will be in the pudding. We'll see...

I didn't even realize that the original post was from the UK. That explains why there hasn't been any news from the US dealers I get email updates from... I imagine it'll be another week or two at least before they start popping up here.

Wow, the seats look really furry. Doesn't look too bad though, it is an improvement, or so it seems from the base model Mattel. The wheels seem to need a bit more attention still, but overall from the pictures in that second auction it looks like a better model.

Let's start a petition or something. Whatever it takes to get Autoart to make a proper Ferrari. I'll wait and see what the elite hotwheels products are like but I doubt they'll be as nice. And what I really want is a nice F50 but that won't happen until the end of the year. ;)

Contact Mark at Replicarz.com... You can pre-order them through him, and he won't charge your creditcard until the item is shipped. Finding stuff on ebay can be great fun, but I don't imagine than any "New Releases" will be "bargain basement" prices. You'll be battling others, and paying more than what the model's worth - as if the Elite series aren't already priced high enough.

Sorry for the delay - I went to Italy for a few days (nothing to do with cars!) but when I got home today my red and yellow Elite F40s were waiting for me. They are definitely an major improvement over the standard Mattel models. One thing to note is that the tyres are more rubberlike as opposed to plastic on the cheaper model. The grills are much finer, looking 100% better than the cheaper version. Detailing in general is good - the engine and under the front hood look excellent. The matt black paint around the glass areas and inside the body makes a massive difference. The F40 logo on the right side of the rear wing is now engraved instead of a tampo print but I am still disappointed that the wing is bascally stuck onto the rear deck unlike the original car. The front lip spoiler is still not there and the wheel nuts don't have the split pin detailing (I may add these from a transkit). Overall I am pleased with the model and it doesn't look out of place next to my UT Ferraris or my BBR Enzo. I would still like Mattel to have let Kyosho had a go at it but until Exoto pull their fingers out this is the best 1/18 F40. I still may have a go with a pot of Tamiya Matt black paint and a detailing transkit!

I actually paid £36.99GBP (64.69USD) for each of the F40s so not a bad deal at all. The other red F40 in the photos is the standard Mattel version. Forgot to say that it comes in a nice matt black finished box!
