The idea behind the Showcase series was for Hotwheels to make up-scale models to rival Kyosho and others. The series is supposed to be higher-quality, better detail, etc. Whether it lives up to the promise has yet to be seen.

Aha. The price seems rather low to rival Kyosho in details.

My real gripe remains the same however: Why come out with the umpteenth version of a 250 GTO when there are so many other Ferraris not available at all? The 250 GTO was my first 1/18 model and I bought it about 20 years ago from Bburago. What is the friggin point?

From the picture it looks like they just stuck an ugly hotwheels 1/18 into an ugly case.

    LOL

Did I mention my Bburago GTO came mounted on a rosewood pedestal? How's that for limited edition.

Wish Hotwheels/Mattel would continue the 1:8 Helmet series.
It looks like they stopped in 2000 when Schumi got his first WC!!
My collection of 22 is hybernating!!

Guess they didn't like it, that collectors were prepared to pay upt to 300$ on ebay for their $8-10 originally priced item.

You could buy a few extra helmets and find somebody to custom paint them for you to continue your collection.

Great idea.... but the helmets style have changed in the past 5 years. Some even changed their manufatcurer...

Are we seeing you in Itasca ? (Hopefully with the F1 results)

I own the 1:12 scale Revell Yellow GTO. I took it apart, sandblasted, and am repainting it in the old livery of # 3387 because the yellow paint was absolutely sh*tty.

Look at the 3 front auxiliary duct openings, and then look at the single one that isn't open. Its edge looks very dark, much like the model I have. It's like they sprayed one very thin coat of yellow on the model, and called it "done."

I am a fan of Mattel 1:18 as being a great value for the dollar, but that one doesn't look that great. It probably would make the perfect foundation for a custom paint job, like I am doing w/ my 1:12.

I came across a Hotwheels Scaglietti for asking price $ 250,- just because it had a special showcasing. There's a sucker born.....

Look at the engine bay: Half the parts are missing.

I'm not a Mattel basher, I'm glad they provide new models for my collection. I just don't see the point in this "Special edition" which sucks just as bad as their regular cars. Looks like a marketing ploy to me.

The car looks like a slight enhancement of the old Burago mould.

The tube is a giant waste of space.

    Also this isn't a 1964.

    A 1964 is a MkII 250GTO.

    This is a '61.

I'd buy it for the price but it has all the hallmarks of a sloppy cynical release.
