He guys, I am going to be in NZ for three months starting March 5. What's the story on on Christchurch? Anything do to? What's the weather like there? I know nothing about NZ except that they filmed Lord of the Rings there. If anyone lives in the area...First round on me.
all i know is that your going to get harassed by heaps of sheeps Seriously i reckon it will get pretty cold in 3 months time, anyway why you goin there Business?
I don't think there are any regular NZ posters in this section (some would lurk, surely), but if you were coming to Australia at any time, you'd get plenty of advice, I'm sure.
Man, I'm jealous. It's going to be Fall/winter, but I'm still jealous! You might not want to return - well, you'll probably be torn, loving it in NZ, but wanting American stuff. I'm going to suggest getting immediately acquainted with Whitakker's Peanut Slabs and (real) Cadbury chocolate. Is Georgie Pie still in business?
as long as there is a taco bell and Mc Donalds.....there will be no international incidents like there was in France in the early 90's
McD's, yes - I think they even bought out Georgie Pie - I'm not sure about Taco Bell. It's been almost a decade since I was there, they probably have moved in by now. Mexican (or Tex-mex) food wasn't there before (and it was only the early-mid 90's is when it became popular in Canada).
Hi, LOng time "lurker" first time poster, I live in Blenheim which is at the top of the south island, about 300km north of Christchurch. Matteo, you will love Chch over the April May June period, it is of course the lead up to winter therefore mild days 15-25 deg c, maybe a few frosts towards the end of your stay but I am sure it will be nothing you cant handle. Sorry, no Taco Bell in nz yet we do have McD's, georgie pie went wheels up years ago. Chch is a great city with heaps to do and see I am sure you will enjoy it down there. You are coming at the peak of rugby season to so will be able to check out a few games at the stadium! If you get a weekend off and enjoy wine come up to Blenheim, the wine capital of the southern hemisphere, and I would be happy to show you around. If you want any other info just let me know, I would be happy to help you out . Mik P.S. Sorry, cant help on the gumboots and velcro thing, we only have vineyards up here, all the sheep got scared south.
Good things take time, have been quite happy browsing and reading about everyones experiences and opinions.
Well I have been here for a week already and it's not too bad. Not use to a town closing down @ 5pm and the food is pretty good. It's heavy and filling. It's been getting cold at night but the days are kinda nice. I almost got killed by a car because I was looking the other way. I am also not use to tipping. It's kinda odd that they don't do that here. I got my local cell number already from Vodaphone. I like the money here but I can do without the coin's for the $1 and $2 dollars. I have not gone out at night yet since I still have not adjusted to the time change. I'll post some pic's when I am back in the US next weekend. I forgot the cable for my camera.
You're coming all the way back for your camera cable so you can post pics? *sniff* You really care about F-Chat.
Christchurch is a beautiful city that someone forgot to invite residents to. It does have a nice circuit at Ruapuna which is less than half an hour from the car park of Lattimer Lodge. It's got some interesting features to it as it was built out of left overs and hand-me-down stuff from the airport across the road. Don't forget to slip/slop/slap whenever the suns out. They're right on the edge of the ozone hole and even on a 22C day you can get fried. Bloody cold the rest of the time. The surrounding mountains have snow on them even in January.
I've been back a forth a couple of times already. Flight is no too bad. it's overnight so it's not that big of a deal. Business Class helps too. I got back on the 3rd and left for vacation on the 8th. I leave again tomorrow back to NZ
