6-time motorcycle roadracing world champion Max Biaggi announced his retirement today. Four 250GP championships (94-97) and two WSBK titles (2010 & 2012). He has the unfortunate circumstance of being active during the same time as a certain rider named Valentino Rossi, otherwise he probably would have added a few big bike GP titles too.

He has the unique distinction of winning the first 500GP race he ever entered (1998 on a Marlboro NSR500), and the first WSBK race he ever entered on an Alstare Suzuki a decade later.

A few weeks ago he won the second WSBK title for Aprilia by the slimmest of margins: 0.5 points (two shortened rain races and half points made that possible).

41 with a wife and young family. Good for him to leave on top and on his own terms. Enjoy your new life, Max.

Congrats to him - nothing for him to prove. Sad to see him go, but he went out a winner.

Very talented rider, I saw him race at Miller Motorsports Park a number of times.

A true champion and a nice person as well.
I am sure we will see more of him under different circumstances.

In the words of Mike Hawthorne 'Why did you retire sounds more plesant than why don't you retire'.

Max is going out as champion and has had a stellar career. All the best to him.

It would have been nice to see him grab a MotoGp championship but he made the best of it in WSBK.
I do miss the rivalry between Biaggi and Rossi. Rossi was just in Max's head
