IIRC reelections aren't due for a few years anyway. As I said, he'll remain in power until he croaks. Just like Bernie btw. Stoddart would be perfect: He understands F1 and - unlike Briatore or Todt - has been removed from it long enough to not be partial or not appear to be partial. Besides: It would be poetic justice to see him take over from the man who did everything in his power to throw him out of F1.
I'm not sure Stoddart isn't one himself, as much "stick" as he gave other team owners in his reign as one of them!
If you watch Fox News, as I sometimes do - Bill OReilly will have a piece on the pantsy-boy scandel this evening. I have to go on the record to say that I am against Paul Stoddart being back in Formula One in ANY capacity. I would rather see a pure politico with no attachment to the sport (are you listening, Tony Blair?) than some new little ego-shrimp with an axe to grind. Having said that, I suppose it leaves the door open for the likes of Hans Blix...
To each his own, but you realize that it was Paul Stoddart who represented the teams towards the FIA? He wasn't just the team manager of a small back of the grid team, he was fighting the good fight against Mosley at the USGP05. Of course that ultimately led to his demise. Stoddart knows an awful lot about F1 and has the trust of the team managers. Besides, he is a very smart business man. Stoddart is also good friends with Bernie.
And this qualifies him (or DIS qualifies him?)? You are right about him being a smart businessman - he was certainly smart enough to sell out. Quotation from Paul Stoddart: Octane magazine 04 05 - "Formula One is a sport from lights to flag and the rest of the time it's a dog-eat-dog business that needs full time attention if you want to stay on top, particularly if you are one of the under-funded private teams. You have to keep going. Those that stop, get run over. Simple as that." Then he sold out.
Being friends with Bernie is a prerequisite to have a working relationship for all things F1. Look at what happened in the Balestre years, the sport almost broke into two parts. Stoddart's main business, the airline parts corporation, was basically funding his F1 deal and towards the end the losses became no longer acceptable. Not sure that's selling out. I'd call that cut your losses and get out. At least he did it in a way, that the team didn't go under, everybody remained employed and he wasn't defrauding the team like Eddie Jordan did.
Point taken. Rest in peace (or pieces) Minardi. I still think that we need somebody with a more detached perspective. First a self proclaimed nuclear physicist who likes to be spanked, then a self proclaimed high school dropout whose goal in Formula One is to get more money from Bernie so he can rise from "back marker" to "mid field runner"? New blood for the hounds, say I.
Madmax OUT, Stoddart IN - it's about time there was some fan focused activity at the FIA. Maybe the combo of Todt and Stoddart would work in harmony!!!!
Max is taking the familiar "it's the media's fault" position. For those familiar with Washington, DC area local politics, it reminds me of our old Mayor complaining that he'd been videotaped smoking crack because "the ***** set me up." http://www.itv-f1.com/News_Article.aspx?id=42182 I would have chosen "I was conducting my own investigation," my personal favorite. So a laughingstock will represent my favorite sport? What a shame. Ah yes, F1, the sport with the Nazi hooker guy, right?
This is why he should just piss off.. The average person that doesn't know zip about F1, will just think F1 nut's, are just that Nut's. And can you blame them, with cheating ,spying ,ridiculous monetary fine's and rule's that can't be explained, and at the head of it a Mad in the head freak.....jeeeez how can you explain it.. Bernie Moralstone get your house in order, this has got to end.
Four days into the scandal and no towel in sight (argh, another bad metaphor, sorry ). By this time Spitzer had already given his resignation speech. As predicted, the guy will remain in power until he dies.
YOU ARE 100% CORRECT. BE A MAN MAX. STEP UP AND TAKE THE CONSEQUENCES. Instead, he is exposed for what he is . . . a sniveling little pathetic child whose daddy got him in the right schools and got him the right job and gave him good references. Max Mosley is the Peter Principle at work--and what a lovely pun that makes.
I remember Marion Barry. After getting caught smoking the crack pipel with a lady of the evening--and then going into the bathroom to pleasure himself . . . related two other priceless quotes. First, he said "Let's get it straight, she was not a stripper, she was and exotic dancer" (I am still trying to discern the difference.) Second, he said, of smoking crack, "You gotta have the crack to get the crack."
http://www.pitpass.com/fes_php/pitpass_news_item.php?fes_art_id=34344 No wonder Bernie doesn't want Max to go anywhere.
Close, but not quite No one gives a sh*t in Australia. It doesn't matter if it's F1 or a Z4 or even R2D2 - Australians just don't give a rat's ar$e about anything. The possible exceptions are New Zealanders. Australians DO care about kiwis, and how much of a flogging they get at the hands of the Wallabies
I dont see how anyone on this planet can read about Max and his "fun" and not shake thier head. I dont know about Australia or other countries, but everyone ive ever known in the US sat in school watching hours and hours of film footage on the Nazi death camp's, the piles of dead bodies, the methods of death, the labor camps, Penumunde, Mengala etc., its the sickest and most horrific episode of the entire 20th century. It would seem you would have to be born under a rock not to see the anger something like this would arouse. My mother worked with a jewish women many years ago who was freed by the allies from a German death camp, though it was to late for her husband and children, she could only hope they didnt suffer as horribly as her. She had been used as a sex slave by the SS, had been horribly beaten and tortured on numerous occasions, and wore the numbers they tatooed on her arm as a badge of honour. I doubt if she were alive today she would see any humor in the actions by Mr. Mosley, regardless of her interest in automobiles or auto racing. Mostly I think she would want to spit in his face at the first opportunity she had.
