    Okay so I'm a little late in starting this thread. But after a couple searches (maybe Im an idiot and missed it) I noticed there wasnt one thread about Max Roach dying on Thursday. No one on Fchat care? One of the greatest jazz drummers of all time. Anyone have any favorites? Right now I am listening to a stream of a radio station in NYC called WKCR run by Columbia which is playing a memorial broadcast which started on Thursday and is going until Wednesday. http://www.columbia.edu/cu/wkcr/ you can stream it onto your itunes. Good stuff

    Max who? J/K I saw him in Toronto a few years back for the 50th anniversary of the greatest jazz concert ever. Back in '53 it was Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie, Bud Powell, Charles Mingus, and Max Roach. The anniversary concert included: Herbie Hancock on piano, Roy Haynes on drums, bassist Dave Holland, Kenny Garrett on sax and Roy Hargrove on trumpet. They had a special solo by Max Roach. They had to pretty much prop him up and finally take the drum sticks away. Not much left at that point.

    yeah getting old sucks... still a cool concert though for sure
