1 Season in STR and a handful of races. Not exactly 2 seasons. Before that 1 season of F3, then karting.
Not the birthday present he expected: Honda is leaving in 2021. Keeping him at Red Bull just became more difficult
Bottas has a 1-year deal in 2021. Norris is only signed through 2021. Lewis' next deal may also be a short one. I don't think Max moves this year, but I could see him go after next year.
that's about it. Lewis deal still being delayed for whatever reason. Getting near the end of his time (age wise) I would've thought. Whether he takes Bottas contract or Lewis, can't be far off....
Agreed -- I think that's the most likely scenario. I think Merc will seek to go from strength to strength, and offer Max a seat. Having said that, I wouldn't rule out McLaren. Ricci is on a 2-year deal there (keeping him through 2022), but they are a team on the rise, and acting accordingly. Lando is a wonderful personality, but still developing as a racer. Perhaps Macca works something, either with him or Ricci, to get this "generation's" talent in their car.
Imagine that Max is contractually free because of Honda’s departure. And Mercedes take him instead of Hamilton. What a pleasure, man!
So, he turns 23, is one of the best drivers on the grid, and is unlikely to win a WDC in the next 4 years. Such is the post-scrip of the also-rans.
Lewis Hamilton 'will never allow' Max Verstappen move to Mercedes despite Red Bull clause https://www.express.co.uk/sport/f1-autosport/1343483/Lewis-Hamilton-will-never-allow-Max-Verstappen-move-Mercedes-Red-Bull-clause-Honda-F1-news The view of former driver Christijan Albers who now advises Max Verstappen.
These articles always amuse me as they confuse employer and employee. Lewis is a tremendous talent, and I’m sure someone would snap him up if he were to leave Mercedes. But ultimately it is Mercedes’ decision to hire a driver, and should they want Max - or anyone else - they’ll hire them.
Wouldn't surprise me if Ferrari did something to swap Carlos for Max after 12 months - stranger things have happened! Maybe use Carlos to help turn things around for Ferrari and warm the seat for Max.
Well, there are precedents to this. Ayrton Senna stopped Lotus from recruiting Derek Warwick; instead they had to take Johnny Dumfries. Alain Prost had in his contract with Williams that he wouldn't work alongside Ayrton Senna, whom they had tried to recruit before. It all depends what a driver has in his contract. I wouldn't be surprised if Hamilton wanted new clauses added to the contract he is negotiating now.
https://www.planetf1.com/news/jos-verstappen-red-bull-warning/ Jos provides his input lol. Entitled attitude lol! They need a motor! Jos: ‘Time for Red Bull to deliver title-winning car’
he's not wrong though is he...Red Bull promised certain things and they've not delivered. They have deeper problems than just the engine. Right now it seems that Max is the one that's able to make the difference. If they had Albon and Gasly in the car you'd think they build an awful car that struggles to get in the top 8. There's only so much a driver can do with the tools he's given.
Redbull have been lacking something in the chassis this year as well. Not fully sorted! I think the team aim to provide a winning car. Jos is always providing a colorful comment!
I do think that if Honda had delivered a decent engine that Max would be in the running for the championship, even with the Red Bull current chassis and aero.
